Stay far away. I worked briefly with a recruiter after being laid off from my job in December. My recruiter, who I will not name, was pushy, moody, a poor listener, and was not an advocate for me at all. My line of work is analytics, and during our first conversation I told him very clearly that I was not looking for sales/account management types of roles. He then proceeded to feed me roles that were at least 50% account management, and barely listen to my feedback that these roles were not ideal for me. I honestly don't understand why recruiters would have a hard time drumming up work for analytics professionals, given how much the industry is booming. I felt insulted by the jobs he was putting me up for, and not very encouraged by the seeming lack of compatible companies I was interviewing with. I generally felt abandoned by this person the entire time I spent working with him. I asked him for feedback from employers I'd interviewed with, assuming that as a recruiter he might have access to information I didn't. His responses were consistently no better than wild speculation I or my friends would make about how an interview went. At one point, he told me that, because an employer hadn't been in touch with him in a few days about me, that I "probably didn't win them over." What!? In what world is that an appropriate thing for a recruiter to say? I gave up after a few weeks of fruitless back-and-forth, and very soon after landed a job on my own. They post a lot of job listings on LinkedIn, which is how I started working with them. Avoid them if you can. Very unprofessional. read more
