It's an Inn not the Four Seasons, so if you're expecting luxury go elsewhere. Came with my daughter (10), just for the night due to an early event early next morning. This place has a lot of character & it is very comfortable. Food was good enough & we had a bit a trouble figuring out how to get to our room; it took us a little "exploring", which bothered me at first, but it was a great stay overall. We loved the rustic decor and the wood floors. I'm a very picky traveler and expect to get what I pay for, this place was exactly what I expected. read more

This review is for the restaurant only; Tonight was our first time here. There was a wedding here tonight also so parking was a little challenge, but not a big deal. It's a beautiful September evening. This place is really charming. It's a quaint New Hampshire inn. If you are looking for a 5 star dining experience you may do better elsewhere. But it is solid. Very cute cast of characters. The hostess is quirky and lovely. Dan was our waiter and he had to handle the dining room AND the function room. He did an excellent job considering. He was sweet and helpful and flying all about. We had the oysters,a fried appetizer plate, I had the seared tuna and my husband had the scallops and pork belly. All were very good. A little heavy on the salt and smoke for the tuna, but still very well done. There was a sweet fellow playing the keyboard and it added a really nice feel to the night. Stayed here recently with a few friends while we were coming through, compliments of the GM, Michael Tanguay. EXCELLENT AND BEAUTIFUL PLACE! We had no problem with parking (15 passenger van w/ trailer); even if you had a small or large vehicle, there was plenty of parking. We had two rooms, #17 and 25, and both rooms were beautiful. The beds were very comfortable, bathroom and living space was very clean, and overall, just a well done and excellent experience. In the morning, we had breakfast (great service) and was able to have a little tour of the tavern, bar space (it was being renovated, but going to be a great spot), patio is very spacious with an area for live band entertainment, and got to hear great stories of the history of this place. Highly recommend staying here if you get the chance! read more

Average Inn despite the added bonus of the rooms being literally a few feet from gravestones in the cemetery next door. You don't see that on their website! We did make it the whole night without any unwanted visitations though. The negatives start at check-in. It took more than 15 minutes to get checked-in. That's with no one in front of us. The woman there was nice but extremely dis-organized and a bit dis-orientated. She'd start checking us in, then stop to answer the phone, then start all over again. This happened 3 times. Then a guy that works there came in, she talked with him, then started over again. So now we finally have our key, so we asked to confirm our dinner reservations for that night at their restaurant called ffrost Tavern. This was another 10 min ordeal. She informed us she had deleted all the reservations in the computer for the night (Valentine's Day) and was manually adding them back in. The guy that we met earlier that worked there, then walked in with a phone and said someone wanted a reservation for 7pm that night (same time as ours), she tells him they're booked solid, better make it 7:30. So he tells them 7pm is ok and hangs up. Kind of funny at the time, less so when they didn't have my reservation at 7pm (see my separate review of the restaurant. The rooms are smallish but clean and nicely decorated. Nice fireplace and 4 post bed. You are warned, there is no sound proofing between the rooms though. So you can hear every word your neighbors say. Case in point, the guy next door sneezed, my wife joking in a low voice to me said, bless you, the guy next door said thank you! The other thing that is a huge negative is the noise you hear in the ceiling (if you're unfortunate enough to be in one of the downstairs rooms),makes you think it could be the souls buried outside your door making a racket that sounds like furniture being dragged around frequently. Turns out besides no insulation between floors or no redecorating spirits, the upstairs rooms have their own entrance. So what you hear is any wheeled luggage or just people walking across the floor. Lastly, the supposed free wifi, would go from weak to nothing in the room, making it un-usable. I'd pass on staying here again. read more

We had a wonderful wedding at this venue. The charm of the inn and a sunny august day in NH was really pleasing to our guests after they traveled from far to spend the day with us. Some key points: - Perfect space for 70-90 people (we had 75) - All our guests stayed at the Inn (we reserved the entire inn, which was awesome, no one bothered us all night ) - Beautiful Inn and great way for out of town guests to experience NH - Every single room is classy, beautiful and comfortable for out of town guests - Great clam chowder - Fair and reasonable prices for a wedding venue - Scenic river walk behind the inn and footbridge - Nice terrace for a cocktail hour outdoors, guests had lunch on the terrace before the wedding - All the food is delicious - They accommodated all the dietary needs of our guests -Outdoor arbor for the ceremony was gorgeous, a very picturesque wedding venue for photos. - Bar- We paid by the drink instead of by the person, this worked out great... you can set your bar limits prior to the event and they will let you switch to cash bar when you have reached your limit. - Room number 25 is gorgeous for bride and attendants to get ready in, this room is huge (great after party spot as well) - Room number 17 has a great suit of armor, that is really fun for the groom and groomsmen to prepare in. -The ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, after-party and guest lodging was all in one place... no one had to drive! Perfect! Other things to consider: - Not a specialized wedding event facility, some very minor details were overlooked (nothing a groom would notice, but the bride might) Message me if you are thinking of this wedding facility, we were very pleased and would choose this venue again. read more

This is a beautiful little place that we stayed at for one night while visiting UNH. They are tucked away on the side of a busy street protected by trees from the noise. It's a multibuilding establishment with all the characteristics of a little cabin in the woods. You'll notice first that this place caters towards weddings as evidenced by the large number of wedding books by the front desk. Enter the door and their decor immediately envelops you and places you in the setting of "nature." With our AAA discount, we got a standard room for $107 and a free breakfast for 2. Bedrooms were spacious with free wifi, clean sheets and a well kept bathroom. Some people in other reviews referenced this place being "haunted" probably because there is a hundred year old graveyard to the side. I didn't find this concerning at all because the area around the building was so well lit. People are constantly going and coming on the grounds and the moonlight pours in through window illuminating anything. There is no possible way you can be scared here. This is a great place to be if you're in town for a night or two. Supposedly their restaurant is also very highly regarded! Too bad we didn't get a chance to eat there! read more

Just left from a disappointing dinner at the 3 chimneys in . Like everyone else said great atmosphere beautiful grounds but food was not great and it was about 80 degrees in there when jt was a cool 65 outside. I got the caprese sandwich. The foccasia bread was hard as a rock that I couldn't bite into it and disappointing since the cheese and everything else in it tasted good. My husband and his friend got the ribeye and had to go back twice because they were rare and even then came back undercooked. Another friend got fish and chips way overdone. The real shocker was the alcohol bill $53 for a rum and coke, 2 martini and 2 vodka and cranberry in tiny glasses. These prices are just as much if not more than those of Boston. Each one of my vodka and cran were $11 wow. Feel bad for the wait staff as this is not their fault and the cooks. Would not recommend. read more

Brides Beware... this venue is beautiful and charming but really poorly run with staff who doesn't care about your experience. We pulled into the venue to see a giant poster that advertised their $.50 wings and bud light special. How tacky. I had to ask the inn keeper to have these removed for my event. I asked Kelsey for an eight foot table (on Wednesday) for my desserts and it was never done. I had to beg a waitress to get it for me on Friday night so I could set up my platters and decorate. My rehearsal dinner was an absolute disaster and Kelsey was no where to be found. She had promised me the person she left in charge would be great and she wasn't. They were very slow to get us drinks and our guests were yelled at when they tried to go to the tavern to purchase drinks. The "manager" Laurie was extremely rude to me, the bride, and my mother in law as well. She had my MIL in tears. When the food finally came out 2 hours later it was cold and undercooked. I lost my appetite from being so upset that my night was ruined. We just spent thousands of dollars on dinner and were hungry, embarrassed, and treated poorly. Fast forward to the wedding. Little things were missed like turning on our lanterns at the ceremony site and turning on the fire pit at cocktail hour. Dinner went smooth but the salad course was gross. Not like the salad we had when we had our initial dinner to pick the meals we would serve at the wedding. The lettuce was old and the dressing did not taste good. Overall, I would not recommend having your wedding here. We just spent thousands of dollars here on my wedding and were NOT happy and no one seemed to care. read more

This was my first stay here. The staff is incredibly nice and welcoming. I ate dinner here twice: the burger if the day (recommended) and the pork tenderloin. Both were outstanding! The bed was very comfortable. Often, the beds can be either too hard or too soft. I slept well throughout my visit. The bed was perfect. I highly recommend the Three Chimneys Inn. read more

Fabulous wedding weekend!! We have just returned from the most beautiful, stress-free, and wonderful wedding weekend for my daughter. The entire staff was friendly, accommodating, and efficient. Our wedding planner, Kelsey, was spectacular; she was supportive, knowledgeable, responsive, and totally on top of EVERYTHING from the minute my daughter selected this place, until the last candle was blown out at the end of the reception. As the MOB, I was totally stress-free and could fully enjoy the experience. The place is beautiful, warm, and charming. We had a garden ceremony, cocktail hour on the plaza, dinner and dancing in the warm and intimate reception room, and continued the celebration in the tavern after the reception. The food was delicious, and the wait staff amazing. The weekend could not have been better. Thank you, Three Chimneys Inn! We love you! I loved the charm of the old Inn, the comforts of modern day living, (the bedrooms are spectacular!) and the ease of having everything in one place. I would highly recommend this place if you are planning a wedding for 100 people, or less. read more

This is only a review of the restaurant. We went for a graduation dinner.Since we were a large pary, and the number kept changing, we spoke to them about a half-dozen times leading up to the dinner. At no time did they indicate that there would be a limited menu on graduation day. The two times that we ate there previously the food was excellent, but this time the choices (prime rib, lamb chops, beet ravioli, salmon and haddock) were uninspired and not well prepared. My son asked if there was a chicken dish and he got a chicken breast on a plate--no sides, no nothing. It looked like something you would feed your dog. Never again. read more

Although the food was good and our waitress was very nice and helpful, the aloof behavior and unfriendly demeanor of the hostess was unacceptable to a level that I will not soon return, if ever. Although the dining room was mostly empty, the hostess seemed exasperated that our party of four didn't have a reservation, seated us in a table basically in the hall, while the more desirable tables never became occupied. Also, when the hostess filled our water glasses she always held the glass with her hand directly over the top of the glass palm down, over the drinking surface - then she would walk by out table coughing and hacking into her hand. Lobster tail for $26, chicken breast on salad for $17, broiled salmon with half a lobster tail for under $24. I ordered the chicken with salad - a grilled chicken breast on a bed of salad greens with pecans, orange slices, and a delicious dressing. I didn't feel like seafood, but if I'm ever back in the area I will definitely be back to try theirs. The prices were completely appropriate for the food and service rendered. The place itself is easy to find, but figuring out how to get from the parking lot to the restaurant is a bit confusing. If you just walk toward any door, you can just go in and ask them to direct you. The staff were very friendly and obviously really enjoy being involved in the business. Definitely worth a stop if you're from out of town and want a high quality meal without having to drive too far out of Durham. read more

When I booked my room (booked in April for a November stay) I specifically asked for a room with two beds because I was traveling with my two children and don't like them to have to sleep on a pull out sofa or cots. I received an email confirmation for a room with two beds. You would think I was all set, unfortunately I was not. We arrived for check in and were taken to our room. It had one bed, a cot, and a fold out chair. The fold out chair was of pitiful quality. It felt like they put a sheet directly over springs. Not only that but the room was like a maze with narrow little paths around the bed, cot, and fold out. Not at all what I asked for and not what was represented in my confirmation. We were in a hurry to get to an event so we put our things down and left. I called the front desk from the car to find out why I was given the wrong room. I spoke to Kelsey. I have never received such terrible customer service. I asked why I was given that room because my confirmation was for a room with two beds. She was immediately defensive and nasty telling me the room I booked was given to someone else. She didn't apologize or offer any type of compensation for receiving the wrong room. Kelsey repeatedly said I don't know what you expect me to do, I'm not the one that made the reservation. Funny side note, when I got home I looked at the notes I made when I booked the room and I did indeed speak with Kelsey back in April. Since I wasn't getting anything but attitude from Kelsey I asked if they could at least provide a second cot or a better mattress for the fold out. She huffed that she didn't know but she would look into it. As I was saying thank you, she hung up on me. I repeat, she hung up on me. Ok, so that is my customer service experience. Now for the room. Absolutely awful. The bathroom door didn't have a handle or lock. You had to wedge it shut. There was no closet, instead we had what looked to be a wooden outhouse built in the corner of the room and it wasn't full length. We were in town for a formal event and had full length gowns and coats that couldn't be hung in the "closet". The bed was lumpy and uncomfortable. I killed two huge bugs in the room. I don't even know what they were, some type of beetles perhaps. The outlets were old and loose. Our cell phone chargers kept falling out of the outlets after we plugged them in. The towels were stiff. The bathtub was a soaker with a shower in it. If you have any type of mobility issues you would not be able to use it. You had step up and over about a two foot, curved tub wall to get in. Now let's talk about accessibility. You have to walk up a narrow wooden stair case to get to the upper rooms. Not fun when you are carrying bags and formal wear for four people. The walls are paper thin and you can hear people clomping up and down the awkward wooden stairs all night. There was nothing redeeming about this place. Save yourself a giant headache and book the Holiday Inn Express instead. read more

3/1/13...stayed 4 nights in rm 14, great, nice sized room, comfortable bed, gas fireplace, relaxing hot tub in the bathroom, very nice breakfast and incredibly friendly and helpful staff (thanks again, Louise!) ..my only negative comment would be the amount of noise from the room (s) above,,,it is a historic building, so one expects squeaky boards, etc,,but maybe the comment should be more directed to the people who use the rooms and lack of care for those around them...perhaps the noise would happen regardless of how careful you are, not sure, did cause me to be a little more thoughtful my neighbors,,,I would definitely stay there again maybe the same room or perhaps another one on a top floor, lol... read more

The Inn is typical of most New England Inns. We were there for a wedding. The food at the wedding was excellent. The service overall was excellent. Although our room was well kept there were several issues. There was no bathroom vent. Like a motorized one. Just a duct that had a vent cover which was directly connected to the bathroom in the next room. And we could hear everything, like their entire conversations. And no vanity in the bathroom. Only a pedestal sink. Difficult to place things to get ready. We had a lovely four post bed. Too bad the mattress was beyond horrible. And when I say horrible I mean neither me or my husband could sleep, thought about sleeping on the floor, was something from a mid evil torture chamber. Lighting in the room was poor. There was only one night stand and inadequate plugs. We did enjoy the gas fire place. Breakfast was included in our stay. Food was disappointing after such a wonderful dinner the night before. Left done thing to be desired. I had to get up and refill my own coffee because the waitress disappeared for long periods of time. But besides the waitress at breakfast the staff was super friendly. I could overlook all the flaws of our stay. But because of the mattress we would NEVER stay again. Bed was horrific. I seriously considered checking in to the holiday inn across the street in the middle of the night. Spent the whole next day tired and in pain. read more

Went to have dinner at the Tavern with a family member. The bartender was not very friendly. I wanted to try a couple different wines before ordering a glass and she seemed very annoyed. I'm a local who stayed for two days between Christmas and New Years for a romantic getaway. It was an excellent stay. The king sized room in the carriage house was very nicely appointed, the bed was extremely comfortable, and the gas fireplace kept the room toasty while it was dangerously frigid outside. The room rate was very fair. The oversized tub for two was a very pleasant surprise. The breakfast included in the rate was outstanding and extremely generous! What I would rave about most vociferously was the excellent cuisine. The quality and variety of the food selection at the restaurant/tavern was absolutely outstanding. The two dinners I had were the best I've experienced in NH, Boston, and I'd go as far as throw in NYC. I can't rave enough about the quality of the meals I had. Not one misstep, every dish was very well thought out, prepared, and exemplary in taste. My accolades to the chef and entire warm and friendly staff at the inn. Wonderful!! Thank you!! Three Chimney's Inn offers great food for reasonable prices. The menu doesn't change often but it's always been good. For a casual experience, make sure to dine in the "Tavern", located downstairs. Or, for more formal dining, eat in the Maples Room upstairs. Great food, nice New England feeling. read more

I'm so glad I didn't base my decision on what others had written because my husband and I loved this place. It was exactly the style we love (rustic and little industrial farmhouse). The staff was so patient and helpful (Expedia had screwed up my reservation) and the place itself was gorgeous. It was built in the 1600's so it's not exactly modern but they do the best that they can. Our room (and bathroom) were pretty big and the room was always very clean. I did not have any problems with noise as others had mentioned. We went down to the bar one night and ended up having a great conversation with the bartender and manager who were so friendly. They even gave us recommendations on other places to check out. Since breakfast is included, we did that one morning. My french toast was very tasty and my husband said he loved his omelet (I am not a fan of goat cheese so I will just take his word for it). My only suggestion would be the water pressure in the shower. I know it seems petty but it is a pain in the butt to wash your hair with a low pressure shower head. I would definitely recommend this place. read more

My daughter had her wedding this past weekend and even though our wedding was too large for their venue we rented the Jr suite for the bridesmaids and the bride to get ready. And my daughter and her new husband stayed in one of the rooms on their wedding night. Even though we didn't have the actual wedding there the staff at Three Chimney's Inn were Terrific!! This place looks like a very small cute place. But if you are planning a special day like your wedding dont go here. My girlfriends daughter had her wedding here it was booked over a year ago. They sent out the info for there guess so they could book it right away. There were many problems up to the day of the wedding. There managemnet is very rude and made comments that there just a small wedding. Which it was 80 people. The place was completely booked up for the weekend by guest o the wedding except just a few. They had rehursal dinner there. So i guess that not a lot of money being spent. But then three hours before the wedding they called the bride to inform her that the people who stayed in there room last night want to stay another night so they would have to give them a new room and it would have to be away from everyone else. Even though they had that room booked over a year ago. They were very rude and there were so many problems. They did nothing to make your event special. Plus they messed up the room charges for most guest and double charged them through out the year so everyone had to search through there old statments to get thing corrected read more

The folks here don't seem to know the meaning of the word reservation. So for their benefit it is "an arrangement to have something (such as a hotel room) held for one's use; also : a promise, guarantee, or record of such engagement" (Websters Dictionary). To me it means if we arrive at 3:00 as planned, there will be a table ready for us or at worst they might have to clear our table and we would have to wait 5 minutes. This is important to me as my wife has Alzheimers and often gets very anxious late in the afternoon. Here reservation seems to mean you show up at 3:00 and then stand in line waiting for a table to come free, which we did for nearly an hour. During this time my wife is confused and doesn't know where she is or what we're doing. When we were finally seated we sat for over an hour and got only a drink and an appetizer (which wasn't anything to write home about). My daughter-in-law had to ask for some bread 30 minutes or so in that had been promised initially. By five we still didn't have our entrees and my wife was hallucinating and getting extremely anxious. She was well on her way to an anxiety attack. We got up and left. They said the would box up our food which took even more time. Finally we got in the car and headed home (about 7 miles away) but my wife was well into the anxiety attack.We finally got her back home and medicated and put plates on the table and got our dinners out, but by this time it was cold and not too good anyway. I think we threw away most of the dinner (at $45/plate). We should have been in and out of this place easily before 5:00 and that would have likely forestalled my wife's issues. The little bit of food I tasted was at best OK. Oh, and they were out of the entree I selected so I ended up with a second choice. Altogether the worst Thanksgiving experience in my 73 Years. read more
