Eating area... we did not eat in this room because they had nice tables set on their private deck for meals.

My husband and I decided spur of the moment to take a two day trip to Wells and found Haven by the Sea online. We thought it looked interesting because it's an old Catholic Church that has been converted into a B and B- so we booked it even though we knew nothing about the area. So glad we took this chance. The building is beautiful and welcoming and the hosts, Nancy and Dan, could not have been more hospitable. Not only was the decor lovely- we loved our room (room 7)- but the common rooms had comfortable furniture, large screen TV's and puzzles, hundreds of books, and complimentary Port and Brandy to sip on. Breakfast was a granola, yogurt parfait with bananas and followed by eggs with sausage and English muffin. Delicious. Nancy made suggestions of where to go and where to park and was a joy to talk with. The beach is very close by (about 4 houses) and it's central to everything. I cannot say enough about how wonderful our experience was and how sad we were when our alarm went off early this morning to leave. We enjoyed all of their amenities and, of course, Stella. Thank you Dan and Nancy for a wonderful experience.

The worst customer service I have ever experienced. The owners are extremely arrogant patronizing and argumentative do not stay at this hotel. they do not have daily staff out front when you get to the hotel. the front doors will be locked and no one is there to greet you. you have to search and scrounge to find an employee. The accommodations are terrible. I highly recommend any of the other fabulous hotels in the area do not stay here!!!!

Our gorgeous room number 5. Spa tub, 4 poster bed, and beautiful fireplace. It was terrific.

This place was simply wonderful. The entire place was super clean and so well maintained. Beautifully furnished and the owners make you feel utterly welcome and appreciated. It was quiet and comfortable. Sheets so soft, pillows great. The history of the place is fantastic too. We got a grand tour when we checked in. We went there for our wedding night and because it was raining that day we asked if it was ok if our justice office the peace conducted our wedding in our beautiful room. They were super sweet to oblige. The owners even joined us in our cake cutting and offered us and our witnesses champagne to celebrate. So much more than we ever expected. We cannot wait to come stay here again. This will forever be our place. The view out on the beautiful marshes from the dining area is so relaxing and beautiful. We really wished we didn't have to go back to work the next day, but we will definitely be back again and again. Breakfast was good. Yogurt and granola parfait, then baked egg frittata, lightly dressed salad and toast. Very close to the beach too. Just a few min walk away. Can't wait to return.

    Sitting room

After visiting Bar Harbor, we stayed at Haven. It was absolutely fantastic. Booked the Loft Room warily as no photos. Best no look reservation ever. A sitting room, bedroom, and outdoor deck! Dan was a great host and cook. The overall space of Haven is not done justice by the photos. We will definitely return if the opportunity arises.

It isn't super close to Old Port, but it's about a 20-25 minute walk, even faster if you have a car or bike. Our host, David, was so gracious and kind. He gave us all kinds of tips on where to eat, what to see, and which neighborhoods to check out. And the breakfast options. Holy moly. These are some of the things David made: lobster souffle; turkey bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast puff pastry; raspberry custard; pancakes with wild blueberry compote; lobster home fries. Honestly, some of our best meals in Portland were eaten right in this very B&B. He even puts snacks in the second floor lounge area (there's also tea and chips) every day, and on an especially hot day he put out a pitcher of pink lemonade. It seems like almost all the cooking and cleaning is done by him. I'm not sure how he manages it and yet everything is flawless, but there you go. Reserve your room early because it was booked solid the whole time we were there. Totally worth it.

We especially loved the large salt water hot tub and mid-day snacks (mixed nuts and large chocolate chip cookies - which were delicious). They also offer a mixed drink and wine at the self serve bar during the day. We stayed in the King 7 room and it was spacious. We loved the rain shower head. I also highly recommend the chocolate sampler box add on! We had the chocolate and champagne available at check in which was a nice touch. The hot tub was often quiet around 8pm and made for the perfect end of evening activity. They have an ample selection of towels and robes by the pool that are available to use. We also enjoyed a couples massage offered by the inn. Breakfast was very yummy! Each day there is a large selection of options you can pick and choose from. They had the breakfast offering for the day displayed and then you check off what you want with a marker on a short form. The inn is about a 10 minute walk from Footbridge beach, which was awesome. Overall I would recommend for any weekend getaway or celebration!

They also provide ice tea and either a sangria or other type drink along with house made cookies (best I've ever had) as well as Whoopie pies and mixed nuts and snack mix.

The property is now under new management and we found our stay to be absolutely miserable. Upon check in, the room was extremely filthy with heavy dust and dirt in the bathroom and on the bed frames, sandy floors, feminine product wrappings and potato chips sprinkled on the floor. Also, can't forget to mention the chewed gum stuck to the side of the bed frame. WE WERE HORRIFIED! During our stay there was a brief heavy rainstorm that resulted in water pouring through the skylight. Our luggage was soaked. I went and reported the issue to the front desk. I was shocked and surprised when the front desk worker told me that "the board of directors does not allow them to take guest feedback". She became very defensive and confrontational when we asked if we could speak to the manager. The woman explained that she could not release the phone number for the manager and the name for the board of director due to "HIPPA"?? (Am I missing something, hippa is a healthcare law and does not apply to the hotel industry). We were concerned that the leaky skylight had not only ruined our trip but was about to do the same for the next guest. The front desk did say that there was another party checking in the day we were checking out of room #203 and there was rain in the forecast, YIKES! I have never written a bad review EVER and hate to do this but was encouraged to do so by the front desk worker. She said that there was nothing she could do and encouraged us to write out our complaints to get the attention of the board of directors. I surely hope they are able to read this review and make necessary change! Needless to say we we will never return and we will tell our family/friends to steer clear of the Bellevue by the Sea. There are tons of beautiful places in Wells, please do not waste your money!

We were literally on the beach. The house was built in the 1890s and it is beautiful! It does have updates to it since then but you don't lose a bit of the charm. We stayed in the old inn keepers room on the main floor, and it had its own bathroom. Our room had a window AC unit and it's own mini fridge as well as a ceiling fan. I do think it needs more outlets but we just used one in the bathroom. They provide you with bath towels, fresh beach towels everyday, washcloths, face towels and bath mats. Resa is the manager their and was absolutely wonderful. She cooked delicious breakfasts and is available if you need anything. One day we had avocado toast, scrambled eggs, fresh baked blueberry buckle, blueberry corn muffins, and chocolate oatmeal protein cookies. Various breads, bagels, and English muffins are available as well as butter, peanut butter, and jelly. There is always coffee, tea, and water and ice on hand. In addition to breakfast the house has a whole closet FULL of board games and activities to play if you find yourself inside for an afternoon storm. There is plenty of common areas to hang out and do a puzzle or play a game. The house also has plenty of beach items for you to use including beach chairs, umbrellas, footballs, volleyballs, sand toys, bikes, helmets, and various other things. You do need to park on the street, but there was ample parking and you don't really have to move your car that often because there is so much within walking distance. Overall I couldn't speak highly enough about our stay. Consider us new regulars.

So glad we did! We stayed in room #12 with a king size bed with plenty of cozy layers to keep us warm during the chilly early September nights. The whole house was beautifully clean, warm and welcoming. It's literally a stones throw from the beach and where we all sit once we are there, so we got out of walking the mile back to the other house our friends rent. Also, the breakfast served in the morning was delicious! Homemade bread, mini egg and ham burritos and plenty of coffee, tea and OJ. I was in heaven! Not to mention, the sub shop is across the street, so anything you need is within arms reach. We will most definitely be back again next year! Even though our room had a great view of the beach, we might try for a different room just to see what they're all like. Very happy with our stay! We had a corner king room looking right at the beach. I was excited to drink my coffee on the balcony only to find the weather was not in our favor. Still, I was able to enjoy it at the big sliding windows in the room. We had turned on the fridge in the room to use it only to soon turn it off because it was so very noisy. I didn't use the shower at all because there is no heat in the bathroom and the floor (being right over the parking garage) was extremely cold. It just wasn't worth it but it means I can't comment on water pressure or anything else. It was a very comfortable bed and a nice, serviceable room. Bonus that the hand sink is outside the toilet/shower area. Wifi was no trouble for us and easy to connect to. Staff was very pleasant. The folks who stayed above us were not so pleasant and made a ton of noise very late at night (music, partying, etc). That's no fault of the staff or motel but was very frustrating in a nearly empty motel. If you have a tall SUV, you may want to park outside instead of in the garage. Though it's really great they do have plenty of parking figured out for being in such a congested area. It was so nice to be able to hop right down onto the beach from outside our room.
