I agree with a previous yelper, horrible service, phenomenal food. I'd give it a 3, but the food makes it hard to. First, I'll start with exactly why the service was horrible. We went to sit at a table for a little intimacy and to avoid talking to strangers about football, and a server asked us to move to the bar. We weren't the only people in there, plenty were at tables, the kitchen didn't close for two more hours, and there were only three seats open at the bar. Shortly after we sat on our bar stools an older, possibly wealthier looking couple was sat at table. We ordered our first drink and our food and all was seeming to be going a little better. We got our food and ordered a second drink. After we were finished eating and before we got a chance to order our final drink, we were brought our bill without any communication between us and the bartender. He didn't really talk to us the whole time, so I don't know why we expected him to ask us if we needed anything else. On to the food. We each were given one piece of bacon, it was spicy and crisp, just had wished there was more. But it was free and yummy, so who could complain? Next, we were brought a caprese salad with buffalo mozzarella. The salad was good, but standard. We were at a BBQ joint after all, not a gastro-pub or a 5 star restaurant. Then, the Mac and cheese comes out, in a skillet, swimming in cheese sauce and smothered in a thick layer of shredded cheese. Super cheesy, super delicious! Lastly, our meat selections, ribs and the pulled pork sandwich. The ribs had a crispy outside. They fell off the bone, and were juicy. You're given a bottle of BBQ to sauce your items to your liking. I ate half the ribs before I even noticed they weren't sauced. Then I tried the sauce, and wow! I had missed out with those first couple ribs. The pulled pork sandwich was our favorite, though. No weird chewy pieces in the pork, very succulent. Despite the well prepared meat, I thought the spicy slaw was the star of the sandwich. With four drinks, our salad, mac, ribs and a sandwich our bill came out to be about $50. Not a bad price for everything we got to try. Fortunately, they allow take out. So, on our next couple visits, and probably any future visits, we're able to avoid the crappy service and appreciate the amazing food. read more

The food is good and the bar staff is nice. However, they have really weird hours. My friend and I stopped by around 3 one day for lunch and a drink in the summer time, the door was unlocked and the lights were on so we walked in and we're rudely told by 2 men that they're not open and to leave. We never made that mistake again. Other than that, every other time I've been here the bartenders and everyone were really welcoming and personable. Just make sure to check their hours before heading over because they're different every day. read more

I'm from Texas so my expectations are pretty high. This is the best BBQ I have eaten outside of Texas and is even better than most places in Texas. Great beer selection. Free slice of bacon while you wait. I had the sampler, 1/2 a brisquet sandwich, 1/2 pulled pork sandwich (FYI -the cole slaw is spicy) and 2 ribs. All if it was delicious. If you're looking for barbecue in Erie, this is about the only place to get it. And this is about as good as barbecue gets up north. The free bacon delivered with the beer is a nice touch - crisp, mapley, a great way to whet one's appetite. I ordered the beef brisket sandwich, my friend ordered the pulled pork sandwich. We split each of ours in half so we could each try both. The beef brisket was tender, juicy, and fantastic with the BBQ sauce. The pulled pork, with the fried dough bread, was phenomenal... the best pulled pork I've had in Erie, PA. It's a great bar, with an awesome atmosphere, and the owners really seem to care about these place. He even came and spoke with us for a bit to make sure we enjoyed it all. Great little local place that a friend took me to while in Erie. The beef brisket is amazing. Get it. You won't regret it. The wait staff is friendly and helpful. to be quite honest and fair I always liked three b saloon but the past few times we went there. they were always out of something. I mean OUT OF PORK or Most meats. I mean if you always run out of something, to me common sense would be to just buy,make more. We used to go once a week but stopped because we would get our hearts set to eat a particular thing and go only to find out, we dont have any. It wasnt always the same day either. Also if there is a game on service is not the best. seems that JJ is more interested in the game than the customer. just sayin' read more

JJ and crew recently catered a wedding reception I attended. Having had the food on several previous occasions, I knew what to expect and was not disappointed. The stuffed, bacon wrapped poppers were so good I almost ate too many. The ribs, chicken, mac n cheese and corn were spot on. The secret sauce for the corn on the cob is amazing. When one of the guests at the wedding had a bit of a medical issue, JJ and his crew sprung into action and offered a seat in their air conditioned trailer. When the issue continued they called 911. They were able to handle that situation plus serve over 200 guests and remain not only professional but were very calming to the guests and efficient. I would always recommend the restaurant and now I know the catering is top notch as well!! read more

Great "hole in the wall" atmosphere. They had an average beer selection and a diverse cocktail list. The Bloody Mary was absolutely delicious and included shrimp, a hard boiled egg, and okra! I had the beef brisket, and it was average. Experts say that beef brisket doesn't need bbq sauce but this did. Texas toast was a nice side. The beer selection is great and the atmosphere is friendly enough, and that is why I will give the place 3 stars. The food... the two dishes that I tried were examples of "Too much of a good thing is just gross." The place smelled great--if you are into smoked meat. It is a BBQ joint, after all. I wasn't terribly hungry, but I saw two of my favorite sides on the menu, and figured I'd give those a try. The potato salad was a nightmare. Before I ordered it, I asked what made it so unusual. The waitress said that it was "Like a loaded baked potato." I figured that meant some bacon, but there was no warning that it was really a meat salad with a few chunks of potato thrown in for texture. Even if I'd been looking for a ham/bacon/pulled pork salad, it would have been nauseating because it was just such a mess of conflicting flavors. I really tried to tolerate it, but I still left more than half on the plate when I sent it back. The waitress kinda laughed it off when I explained why I didn't want to eat the rest of it... But no, really, no potato salad should ever have more meat in it than potatoes. It is hard to mess up a Caprese salad, I thought, but the one here is nearly inedible. The classic recipe is basil, tomato, fresh mozzarella. Maybe a little olive oil, maybe a little salt & pepper, possibly a dash of balsamic vinegar. This one was 3 small slices of unripe roma tomato, each topped with a little slab of cheese and no basil in sight, all floating in a bowl of balsamic vinegar. Balsamic has a very strong flavor and a sharp acidic bite. Imagine three small bites of food drowned in a bowl of pure, concentrated lemon juice. It is usually dosed in drops and dashes, not by the half cup. The amount served to me would have been excessive if it were used in 40-50 caprese salads. After I was done with the 3 bites of inferior quality hors d'oeurve, I had a chemical burn on my tongue and there were still about 4 ounces of uncut balsamic, just going to waste. That inefficiency was what inspired me to try again to comment to the server about the unexpected composition of the item. Again, she just laughed it off and assured me that the absurd quantity of balsamic vinegar I'd been served was their standard. "Oh, yeah, it is supposed to fill the entire bottom of the bowl." Don't get me wrong. The staff were nice enough. And some of the food must be good: They were getting slammed with take out orders. I might go back some time when I want to eat barbequed meat and to drink beer... with no salads / sides. Maybe they just want to be a meat and beer joint and felt pressured into making fancy side dishes. Maybe whoever sets the menu isn't actually tasting what the kitchen puts out. Whatever. They'd do much better to stick to what they do well, rather than trying to fancy it up.. at least until they develop the understanding that just putting more meat or strong flavoring into a dish doesn't always mean making it better. If I do go back, I'll try other things and consider posting an update. I don't just want to tear them down, without giving them a second chance. read more

This place was somewhat disappointing. The pulled pork was lacking in flavor and the sauce they use was really runny and looked greasy. I wasn't impressed at all. The texas toast was just texas toast... Their sweet potato fries were delicious though! We both really loved those. I didn't get to try any of their other side though. We haven't been for the bacon and beer but that's a cool idea! I probably wouldn't bother going back because I could get better pulled pork at Smoky Bones or better yet... make it myself read more

I'm a person who love ribs however I can't eat that often due to high blood pressure so when I decide to indulge I want a taste treat. When this place opened several years ago the ribs were tender meaty and the sauce exceptional. I always get concerned when I haven't been to a place in a while and beside that I heard from a trusted friend the meat resembled another kind of substance. While the sauce was good and the meat was indeed pork ribs, boy were they tough. I will never go back there again. Unfortunately this is the case with many restaurants in Erie. I arrived at 1 on a Friday afternoon. my friend and I were the only customers in the place and i soon realized why. the server immediately told us the only meat they had was the beef brisket. when she came back with our drinks I asked about soup of the day. answer, none. I then asked what was there to order and she replied chicken. so wanted to try the house made pork rinds - ordered them - all of our other food came out but w/out the pork rinds - asked for them - told they were never told to make them in the kitchen - asked if we still wanted them - told the server we did - they came out 15 minutes later still crackling in the basket - too hot to pick up - so after eating all of our other things we were then too full to eat them - took them home in the paper bag they offered - by the evening (looking for a snack) they had become stiff & chewy & a texture like packaging peanuts - into the trash them went - what a waste - if we got them as an appetizer as intended with drinks this may be a whole other story w/a better ending read more

I typically do not write reviews but this was a very frustrating experience. Honestly the food was decent for Erie standards and I might actually consider going and getting food there again. However, I ordered "catering" = dinner for 10 people, called two days ahead of time after reviewing on the website menu. I asked for both Brussels sprouts and baked beans and was told they were out of both. BBQ and no baked beans? Two days ahead of time? I ordered pickup for 5:30 for a dinner at 6:00. When I got there I was told they forgot to cook the brisket and that it would be a few seconds...? The manager was pretty nice about things after I asked him to be honest about how long it would take & he even bought me a beer to make up for it which was pretty tasty. Everything finally came out at 6. Anyhow, hate to be a buzz kill on a review. SUMMARY: think twice before getting catering & from what I hear from my friends be prepared to wait a long time in general. read more

This was the 2nd time I had been here. First time was much better.. I ordered a Portabella sandwich and literally had to look for the mushroom between the bread. Was very disappointed and the free bacon was so greasy... Also terrible service, Had to wait 10 minutes at the bar just to get a drink. This is by far the best home cooked BBQ in Erie. I always get ribs or brisket and love it every time. The meat falls off the bone, it's well-cooked, great portions, great taste, and great sauce. I also love the home cooked feel of their mac and cheese, it's truly second to none. Thirsty for a real good drink? Try their homemade lemonade. They don't have it all the time but you have to ask. As for plates, who needs them? The staff is great, the atmosphere is fun, and the decor makes you feel at home. I could eat there every day. read more

I went here on a recommendation from my sister and maybe she set my expectations too high but I was less than impressed. The atmosphere wasn't great, the servers not very friendly, and the food was pricey. Everything also seemed in need of a good scrub down. I have eaten here twice and have gotten the grilled cheese with a side of mac n cheese, and the second time just got a side of mashed potatoes and a side of broccoli. All of these dishes were so-so, definitely not worth the price and the bad atmosphere. read more

I used to love the place 2 years ago, but it has gone from awesome BBQ to hot garbage served by rude servers, the b for bacon is a joke, watched the server give bacon to whoever she would choose, when I asked for bacon with my beer she said that they ran out, that was until she served it to a few more people, so I asked again when I had to go to the bar to get my next beer, she rolled her eyes brought the beer then said they were out again. For the 5 entrees on the menu they ran out of brisket, and ribs so we went with the pulled chicken special well it was ok except for the chicken bones and the burnt cornbread that used to rock, the only thing the server brought over was our first drinks, kitchen brought out our food, I got our other drinks from the bar, the silverware and BBQ I had to find the other server. Again I loved this place and recommended it to everyone but it has gone down hill fast. I wish JJ would make this place acceptable once again until then ill go to smokey bones for my BBQ fix. read more
