Dr Candido is precise and caring. Whoever patrols the parking lot gets a ZERO for putting an "illegally parked" sticker on my right rear window, DESPITE my husband's handicapped tag on our rear view mirror (because he and I were in the hospital for his APPOINTMENT with the pain doctor!). All this person would've had to do was WALK TO THE SIDEWALK IN FRONT OF MY CAR, and s/he might easily have SEEN the tag, maybe s/he was too LAZY to walk those 3-4 extra steps! read more

Thorek Memorial Hospital - Fool's errand! - Radiologists Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Absolutely disgusting treatment of patient. Unsafe discharge post operative patient did not follow Medicare CMS guidelines and give patient flyer on their rights. Hospital Charge Nurse refused to speak with patient advocate listed in admission paperwork and stated " I dont have to discuss anything with you" Refusing to identify himself he and the rest of the nurses who were complicit in this and every other discharge should be fired and lose their license. There is a reason this hospital has a 2-star rating it's not fit for humans. read more

We move to Chicago from California six years ago and we needed a doctor. We tried one place and it was horrible but the receptionist recommended we try Thorek. We choose Dr Hunniford and he is amazing. I'm diabetic and he has been with me every step of the way treating. Just today my wife was able to talk to him and he listen and true to understand her. When ever we go the wait is very short and get all of our services quickly. read more

Omg! We brought our friend in at 1:00am with a broken nose. We were told we could join him into after his X-ray That was 3 hours ago. Meanwhile, there's been a woman out here crying in pain for hours. What's the point of an ER if you can't get seen? It's dead quiet, nothing going on. And yet... here we sit. We have no idea what's going on. They said they'd discharge our friend an hour ago. They were just waiting for the papers. Then our friend texted to say they're holding him till 10:00am. It's 5:30am now. The sun is coming up. We just want to know what's going on! The security guy is friendly, trying to be helpful. But he keeps disappearing and at one point it just felt like we were all Alone and being held against our will. Not sure why we ended up here. But we will not come back. read more

Came in to the Emergency for evaluation of chest pain. After 30 minutes of being ignored, went elsewhere

Won't go too far into detail, but stopped by here for the ER. Overall a very frustrating experience and I didn't feel heard nor did I receive the care I needed. Also it took over 3 hours...I will never be back here and don't recommend this hospital! read more

Horrible, insensitive front staff in ER Waited 2 hrs, while my husband spammed and sweated. No info, but 4 other patients walked thru, including one young woman who giggled and walked thru with her BF. Maybe it was because we were white? Maybe it was because we are a gay married couple? read more

One of the worst emergency rooms i've been to. Actually... straight up the worst. Understaffed, rude, and a waste of time. The staff accused me of passing out because i was "drinking". I was not - a blood test they gave me confirmed that there was NO alcohol in my blood. Did they take back their extremely rude comments when they found out? Nope. The doctor on the floor when i was there was AFWUL and did absolutely nothing. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. I was admitted to the ER for a serious medical issue and was left alone for four hours, not taking me seriously or listening to anything I said. The doctor ultimately dismissed me after having spent roughly two minutes asking questions having nothing to do with the issue at hand. The comparison I could give is as if I'd gone in after being lit on fire and they'd handed me a bottle of water for dehydration. Additionally it was a very slow night with approximately four people in the entire ER, so they had time to more thoroughly evaluate me and take me seriously. read more

Lung scan (MRI) in and out in less than 30 minutes. Reception staff and technician were very knowledgeable, helpful and fast.

Would give this place 0 stars if it were allowed. They put in the wrong code for services to my insurance, did not pick up any of MY 32 phone calls to them (across 7 months) OR my insurance's 20+ phone calls because it seems like no one actually comes to work and does their job. They then decided to send over my information to a third party and STILL refused to pick up the phone or give me email information to reach them even though this was THEIR MISTAKE. This is the kind of place that deserves to be sued into oblivion. read more

I've been to the ER have found the doctors to be very kind and respectful. The care I received from staff and nurses was at part with other larger hospitals. The location makes it accessible for those of us in Uptown and Lakeview. While Weiss is much closer to me I much prefer Thorek as my two experiences at Weiss are horrible. read more

I am not sure how to term this hospital so here it goes. This hospital is very political and interconnected. The management and the administration are all friends and on the same side. The facility is very unclean, and run as if it's 1965. The CEO who is an MD makes rounds and decisions on patients healthcare. Most of the people who work here are underpaid and are rude. There are never enough supplies for the residents/patients. There are too many hospitals in Chicago to have to go here. Do your homework when it comes to your healthcare and read all reviews. If it quacks like a duck, walks like a duck then usually it's a duck. NO WAY. Rude and unprofessional. read more

The people that work at this hospital are what you would call "demons on earth here to try and mentally/psychical destroy mankind". Thought I'd get to the point rather then write the list of times I have been there and could not believe the pure apathy and lack of humanity that has been dished out to me and other patients. I visited the Thorek ER on February 15, 2023, where I handed over my proof of insurance and contact details. Two months later, I received bill #1 which I paid on April 21, 2023. On August 7, 2023, I received a collections notice on an unpaid claim (bill #2). After speaking with Thorek Billing, they informed me this second claim covered the attending physician services. Thorek Billing then directed me to the department that issued physician claim billing where they were unwilling to assist resolving the matter. They claimed they didn't have my insurance info despite a successful claim #1 submission to BC/BS. They never informed me via USPS/email/phone of the unbilled balance before selling the debt to a collections agency. I was told to work with the collections company to resolve the matter. Well, I wasn't encouraged by the past reviews of Thorek, but my insurance sent me here so be it. I was extremely & pleasantly surprised at the care I have received here. Dr. Chi is my podiatrist, he is excellent! He performed a bunionectomy and a hammer toectomy on both my feet. Still in his care and my feet are looking great. The women at the front desk are great. Professional, clean office. Nat in radiology couldn't be friendlier and more professional. Received my mammogram here, again, minimal waiting and friendly service. Northwestern is a huge and amazing hospital but you sit your butt in the waiting room most of the time honestly one hour at Thorek hospital to five hours at Northwestern, give me the smaller hospital. It's not fancy but it's fine. I've had no issues here except for some scheduling issues. read more

Zero stars if I could. Today I reached my limit with this hospital. The customer service is atrocious. Every time I need a refill you can't reach the offices and they don't respond to faxes or voicemail messages. The staff at Dr. Barsky's office is rude and they discriminate. Today I walked right into the hospital with no one stopping me to check my temperature! For two weeks Walgreen's has been trying to make contact for my refill. This hospital is dangerous to anyone seeking any form of health care. Please investigate this hospital for patient abuse and ignorant and uneducated staff. read more

Night shift is terrible ! Very arrogant people at least people I was interacting with in the 6th floor! My nurse Dominque is mentally abusive and she wants to do all the talking and cuts you off . She never wants to listen to me when she ask about my pain level. actually ignores me and walks out the door and never to return. She actually hung up on me while I was communicating with her on the remote. She's telling me that I am not in pain and there's nothing she can do for me. I tell her to start communicating with the doctor. I told her five times, I was rinsing out my mouth with the water and not swallowing the water/ when it's stomach pain, I can't drink water. I'm here almost 24 hours and I'm still in the same amount of pain I was in when I arrived into the emergency room. This hospital does not take pain. Seriously. I was here once before and once again, talking about my pain and they walked out the room and never said another word. read more

I am very disappointed in the care provided by the doctor, Dr. Julia Dyer, for GI issues. I was given information verbally that was not followed through in action on their part. In an attempt to inform them of the missing information that was expected to come in the mail. In my call to inform them, I was spoken to in a harsh manner, told I have issues because I had call to follow up on information that had not yet been given. Following this, the doctor informed me that they would no longer talk with me about my concerns (Although I didn't have concerns, I was missing the documentation for my upcoming procedure) over the phone. I am worried that this doctor and her team will continue to provide poor care and lack of information to their clients. Additional, in working with the hospital to understand my bill I was surprise that I was charge to come to the hospital and then received a different bill to meet with the doctor. So plan to pay two fees for one visit vs. just your copay. read more

Courtesy, professionalusm, competence, genuine care for patients. Dr. Steven Sclamberg and associate Melanie Codene are awesome.

I did not have a good experience. I was taken to Thorek by ambulance from urgent care because it was the closest medical facility. I got there to the emergency room. They put in a room for 6 hours waiting for a bed. Not much in the way of monitoring. The ER doctor had a poor bedside manner and was very callous. They did give me food, but it had hair in it. They bring to a room, there's another person there, and the entire room is filled with debris, dirty tissues, garbage all over the place. I refused to stay in that room, and the staff put me in a different room, which was cleaner, but there were stains on the wall, the molding on the floor was broken, and floor felt sticky when I took my shoes off. Throughout the night, nurse after nurse comes in, and by how they attempted to treat me, demonstrated that they didn't really know what was going on with me or my health. One nurse tried to give me medicine for an ulcer, which I didn't have and was never diagnosed with! Full disclosure, at 11pm, after another nurse came in who had no idea what my medical condition was, i had enough. I walked in the hallway and let the staff have it. They all thought I was nuts for being upset, even after explaining multiple times about all the things I experienced. They talked me into waiting until the morning to speak with a social worker. I tried to get some sleep, but there was a very loud, screeching noise that went on throughout the night. I called the attendant to see if it could be fixed, but they kept saying "they'll call maintenance." The noise never went away, so my was that they did not do that at all. I finally spoke to the social worker, who was professional, but also gruff. I explained about my experiences, and I asked for my care to be transferred . She then gave me a hard time about that. I spoke to a doctor, finally, and told him I decided to sign out AMA, and I want a copy of my records to take to another hospital. He says "well, anywhere else you go, they aren't going to do anything different than what we'll do." He and the social worker tried to talk me into staying, but my mind was made up. I found Thorek hospital to be a dirty facility in disrepair. The staff is unprofessional, and during my time there, did not make me feel like I was going to get better. The bedside manner is poor. Your treatment is your business. If you want to treat here, that's your choice. I would never go back here. read more

I show up there to see a gastroenterologist referred by my doctor ten minutes late. the front desk instructs me to sign in and take a seat in the waiting area While waiting I witnessed a young couple with a sick child being verbally and loudly humiliated and got turned away for not having insurance. 30 minutes later they call my name and instructed me to sit at a reception window where I sat with an unhappy receptionist who is hating every moment of it's existence being there, very rude and not at all friendly. they proceeded to reprimanded me about being 45 minutes late and doubtful I'd see the doctor. I got up and told them not to bother and I walked away. Meanwhile, I overheard an orderly asking the front desk for an interpreter for an elderly wheelchair bound patient, the front desk person responded (I don't feel like speaking Spanish today, find someone else). The service I received through the Ambulatory Care Center was prompt and efficient. I had a doctor consult, then several tests done rapid-fire, and I was out of there with a couple of prescriptions in short order. If everyone in the US received speedy medical service like I received at Thorek, people would be more willing to see a doctor before their illness spiraled out of control, and the US would have a significantly healthier population. read more

I went to the ER two days ago and the service was HORRIBLE. Dr. Wang, John (RN) and the female Asian/chinese charge nurse need to be disciplined. They acted is if they were so busy, she didnt want to give a proper depart and the Dr. was horrible as well. I asked if I could have a second opinion from a nurse and Dr. Wang states, "I'm a physician, you don't need another opinion". BUT! When I was the ER 2-3 weeks prior with Dr. P, Sergio (RN) and a female hispanic RN, I was treated so well which is what made me come back. I guess the shift mattered. Dr. Wang and his crew was night shift and Dr. P and his crew was morning shift. I'll be following up with the BBB; treated poorly, even after telling them I was an RN myself. What a terrible place. Not only were they lackluster in their care of me, but they might end up hurting you in the end. Try and avoid this "hospital" at all costs. I took myself to the ER one night when I had a severe bout of food poisoning. The person who checked me in got nearly all of my personal information wrong. First name: wrong. Last name: wrong. Birth date: Wrong. What if something serious had happened to me? That could have been a nightmare. In triage, I saw Dr. Patrick Malik. He was fine. Passable, I guess. But after he spoke with me, I heard him around the corner complaining to another staffer that he had "only two male nurses" on staff. So, like, not nurses, necessarily. MALE nurses. Big difference, I guess. I waited nearly an hour in that triage room, which felt like an eternity, clutching a puke bucket and making multiple trips to the restroom, until I finally had to ask someone when anyone would be coming to get me. Literally no one filled me in on what was happening. I just saw an older man across the hall on a gurney, and the triage nurse who came in and out sporadically. Then the "male" nurse came back to tell me that it was a "waiting game" and that I just needed to be patient. Great. This same male nurse, it turns out, was also the one who treated me. Now, as a patient, I like to bring some levity. So I was joking a little bit as he was getting me settled into my room (finally). But that doesn't mean I was flirting with him. Yet, when he was administering the needle for my blood draw and IV, he told me his "poke" was "gentle." Yeah, sure, buddy. I don't need to know about that. But here is the thing: his poke (IV-wise) was NOT gentle. It was quite uncomfortable, pulling on the skin, and he seemed offended that I expressed any discomfort at all. [I will say this - getting the IV fluids was amazing for me at that time, and I am VERY glad that I came in to get treated. I mean, if you are ever in a situation where you are having vomiting and diarrhea at the same time, and you can't keep fluids in your body, and you have any health insurance at all, do not hesitate: take yourself to an ER. As long as they have an IV with saline. It's good stuff, man.] When Mr. Escobar (my "male" nurse) took the bandage off from the IV, he was dismayed to find that he maybe didn't do as good a job as he thought. There was a sizable blood pool under the tape, which he reassured me was "fine," but he was commenting that he thought he did a better job. Ok, great. Over two weeks later, I still have a small red bump from where the needle was, and I'm wondering if it will be a permanent scar. So let's recap: intake nurse gets nearly all my information wrong. Triage doctor is genderist, when it comes to nurses. My nurse, who is male, makes sexual innuendo with me about "his poke," while he fits me with an IV that (while useful) may have left me with a scar. Great so far. And then there is the follow-up. I saw Dr. Julia Dyer in GI for follow-up, and I regret this deeply. As I was attempting to describe the symptoms that I had had since my ER visit, Dr. Dyer interrupted me and told me to stop telling her about them because they were "not important," because they were "in the past." She also told me to stop talking so that she could "tell me something that I needed to know." I still don't know what that thing is that I "needed" to know, because I walked on out of that office. But here's what's even worse: as soon as I announced that I was leaving, she said loudly (as if she wanted someone to hear), "If you don't leave my office, I will call security." I didn't argue with her. I was already on my way out. But of course I was offended at the implication that I needed to be escorted out by security when I was voluntarily leaving because I was shockingly disappointed at her complete disregard of...oh, I don't know - the reason I was there in the first place? As I gathered my things in the waiting area, getting ready to head out, hands shaking, I heard her instructing the front desk to "call security," just as she had threatened. So I went over there to tell the receptionist, who seemed perfectly reasonable, calmly, how awful the doctor's care was with me. Dr. Dyer came over and accused me of "jumping up" and "screaming" at her in the patient room. These things did not happen, but she tried to force me to say that they did. Everything that she said was a total manipulation. My feeling is, she knows that she screwed up, and she was doing everything she could to cover her arse. I have never experienced such a blatant abuse of power by a doctor. It was traumatizing on top of the fact that I was already vulnerable. She should not be allowed to practice medicine. Avoid this place, if you can. read more
