The hotel room itself seemed pretty mediocre, since it doesn't have the basic amenities like some of the other Scandic hotels, such as water cooker and mini fridge. Also, the hair dryer wasn't working and there were cracks on the glass cups in the bathroom. I really think these small details make a huge difference. I'm giving it a four because breakfast buffets at Scandic hotels usually never fail. I enjoyed their selection of fish, meat, veggies, fruits, juices, yogurts and warm drinks. Maybe it's the holiday season, so the seating arrangements/decorations were also very "koselig." Overall I had a good experience, and would come back again.

Really classy for being Scandic! If you often stay at Scandic, you will be surprised! Same wooden floor which usually makes the rooms sensitive to noise/sound but we had no problems with that here. We did not hear the neighbors take a shower, which is often the case at other Scandics. Also, being Scandic they use container soap and shampoo which is good for the environment. Bring your own conditioner, you will need it! What i do not like about Scandic is that you never get a bathroom floor towel! This place has a bin in toilet, though. The room has flat screen TV with 20 channels. Firm beds. Ok temp in the room. Safety box but no mini bar. We got a corner room facing street and work site, which at first was a disappointment, but we realized that it is the best side. Rooms facing the market hall and restaurants has to deal with late night activities. it was pretty noisy during the weekend and warm summer nights. The construction site may be ugly, but still quiet at night. Also there are rooms facing opposite hotel wall, which didn't seem to be very nice either. There are a few rooms that has balcony or similar to it and some at bottom floor that has a nice patio. Also at the shared patio there were at least two rooms you could see right into. Try to avoid to get these rooms on bottom floor! But what I like the most, is the location! Forget the hotels in the middle of the city with just a few minutes to the hustle! This one is located in a super cool neighborhood. And in the middle of a new trendy area with bars and restaurants just 30 seconds away! We regret that we didn't have time to explore them more, since we had already made reservations at other places beforehand. It is located just 5 minutes from another super cool neighborhood, Grünerlökka. A lot of hipsters. Those familiar to Stockholm and Gothenburg, can compare to Söder and Andra Långgatan. Breakfast as any Scandic breakfasts. Try not to come the last 30 minutes as it is less to choose from, which I totally respect. But when asked, they did come out with fresh servings! I will definitely stay here every time I come to Oslo (loyalty member)! It has the best location out of them all! For sure! And still only 15 minutes by foot to Karl Johan or whatever. Accepts AMEX.

Walking is possible but it would take awhile. The hotel itself is quite clean and the staff are courteous and helpful. In the lobby there is a Nespresso machine and small chocolates for you to enjoy. There is a small restaurant off the main lobby. The room I had was small but sufficient for my needs. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. Included with the price of my hotel room was an excellent buffet breakfast. The room in which the buffet is held has a view of the inside of the soccer stadium which was quite interesting. The food options are very varied, with both hot and cold foods available. There were cheeses, fish (including caviar paste!), meats (both hot and cold cuts), eggs, cereals, yogurts, fruits, bread and pastries, coffee, tea, juices, hot chocolate and freshly squeezed orange juice. Definitely make time for breakfast. Overall a very nice hotel, just a bit far from downtown Oslo, but with the excellent public transport system it's well located both by bus and train (as well as for the shuttle bus that takes you to and from the airport)

A little history: The Grand Hotel was opened in 1874 by Julius Fritzner. It has a rich history, hosting international guests, celebrities, and even Nobel Peace Prize winners. Location: Grand Hotel is located in the city center of Oslo, Norway. You are literally within walking distance of many great attractions, restaurants, and shopping just outside its front entrance! Walk over or take a short ride to visit major attractions like the Royal Palace, Parliament, and Aker Brygge. It was a bit chilly when we visited in late May, however, with the brisk walking and a warm jacket we kept ourselves warm and comfortable. Accommodations: The hotel interior is stunning and exquisite in its design and decor. The rooms are suite sized and luxurious for your stay. Restaurants we dined in: During our stay, we were fortunate to experience dinner at the iconic Palmen restaurant. Entering the restaurant, your eyes are drawn to the most beautiful chandelier (see picture). The luxurious decor and expansive dining room sets the ambience for the culinary experience we were about to enjoy. The Palmen Restaurant is a renowned restaurant. The restaurant's innovative and dedicated Chefs have created an exquisite continental menu with a Nordic twist. We all enjoyed our dinner here. The service was 5 stars throughout our dinner service for 40! Attentive to everyone's needs and wants. The second location is the Grand Café: A historic cafe serving a rich breakfast buffet in beautiful surroundings. A little history: In 1874 Grand Café opened its doors. Back then, Oslo was called Kristiania. This is where it all started. Location: The Grand Café is located on the ground floor of the hotel. The new Grand Café is open and welcoming to it's guests. The kitchen is open with access to the chefs who prepare food with ingredients mainly from the Nordic countries, and with inspiration from other parts of the world. The decorative ceilings of Lars Backer have been unveiled and recreated, the original Thonet chairs have been renovated and the three famous Krohg paintings have been preserved. (Information is from its website). The fresh local fruits, Nordic cuisine, fresh local breads and so much more is a Foodie breakfast experience that I highly recommend when visiting Oslo. Do not miss your once in a lifetime opportunity to taste a 5 star culinary experience of local and international cuisine! The best way to see the food offerings is via the pictures posted for the restaurant! There is so much more that The Grand Hotel has to offer you! Check out its website for more details. Stay here if you can during your visit to Oslo, Norway. The Grand Hotel Oslo is a 5-star establishment I could not include all the food pictures in this review! You will need to look through the Yelp pictures to see all the pictures I posted. https://grand.no/en/content/unique-location-in-oslo

The Hotel Folketeateret is located only a few minutes from the Central Station, where most people arrive when they come from the airport. The entrance is located within a mini-mall where you can find all sorts of restaurants, delicatessen stores, hairdressers etc. Upon entering the hotel, I always feel right at home, as it is cozy and warm in a typical Scandinavian fashion. Plus, the receptionists here are always very friendly and on top of that super-efficient; I've never waited longer than a minute to check in or check out. The hotel rooms that I've stayed in are not luxurious, but they are comfortable and they offer all the conveniences that a business traveller might look for: master switches for the light by the bed, plenty of sockets by the bed, free and fast wifi etc. As I mentioned before, the breakfast for me is the highlight here and I really urge you to get up early and take full advantage of it. The buffet is so big with so many yummy choices that I usually end up not needing to eat until the evening...seriously, I stuff myself with hearty rye bread, eggs, sausages, smoothies and other goodies. Another nice amenity here at the hotel is that in addition to the free breakfast, they also have free coffee in the lobby and they also offer a free light dinner...now this is what I call convenient!

The location couldn't have been better and we had only a short walk for our onward exploration in Norway. It was also close to the MUNCH museum as well as the opera house and very central for using the public transport to get around Oslo. The hotel itself is very up to date and our suite had all the expected amenities from power access to big modern bathroom. One complaint and I've seen this elsewhere in Europe, is your inability to control the temperature in your room. If you want it cooler you have to make a request to the front desk. Our room on the 6th floor was fairly large (by European standards) and was comfortable with a nice view to the train station. Our rate included the lavish breakfast buffet with loads of choices as well as a few made to order items like eggs Benedict and something I've never seen in Europe-bagels! A lovely stay except for the warm and stuffy room. Oddly they keep the hallways and other public spaces cooler. Be sure also to check out the fantastic hip cocktail bar-pier 42-in the lobby.
