Believe YELP here. Everything is true, this is an incompetent company with poor structure and questionable practices. You have been warned! Yes, they will say all the right things when you want something installed, and they might even install it as per their quote. But this company has been purchased by larger conglomerate several times and it is pretty clear that they are about making money and putting the customer second. The latest and final straw was when I had a technician come to assess a condenser pump on a daikon ductless system... Without doing any proper assessment or checking any typical aspects of the system he deemed that the pump had to be replaced... Apparently the condenser pump is not part of the "all parts warranty" either, yah! I decided to get a second opinion. So I called Pioneer plumbing and services who came immediately the next day, actually took the time to assess and deemed that all they needed to do was clean out some algae from the pump area. So in the end the pump was NOT broken After going back and forth with Thompson they did refund me, but please be warned! read more

Thomson Industries installed our Daikin furnace and air conditioner in 2018, we chose them for their good reviews. In April the crew showed up to install everything, when finished they set up the thermostat and left, it was cool enough to require heating which was good as I could check how well it worked. After a few days of running the furnace I went around to check that everything was working OK, I found that there was water leaking from the furnace drain pipes onto the crawl space floor, the joints were not glued properly, I also had to pick up lots of sheet metal screws all over the crawlspace floor from them doing the duct work so I had to call them back twice to fix the leaks, at this point I gave up on them and fixed it myself, this time it was job done. I was also having a problem with the thermostat, it was set for 20 degrees, the furnace would not stop running until it reached 21-22 degrees, so I called them, they came and checked it and told me it was now fixed, the next day the heater did the same thing, I called them, they came and replaced the thermostat, said it was now fixed, the next day the heater did the same thing, like before I looked into it myself and found that there was a big hole in the drywall behind the thermostat which was located above a cold air return, when the furnace was running the cold air return would pull air from the hole in the wall and cause the thermostat to read a lower temp, I sealed the hole, and again job done. On October 30 2024 we were having issues with the furnace using 50% more gas than other homes in our area (according to Fortisbc.com), we were told by Thomson that it needed a new valve and we could not run the furnace as it was not safe and the gas to it was shut off on November 26 , we made many phone calls to them to have this fixed under the 12 year Daikin warranty but were ghosted, after 7 weeks with no heat in Nov. Dec. and part of Jan, I gave up on them and looked for another company. We found Bakerview, who came and checked the furnace and found that the heat exchanger was plugged caused by the furnace drain not being installed correctly and the heat exchanger and inducer motor needed to be replaced, They replaced the whole furnace under the Daikin warranty, we now have heat. Using Thomson heating and cooling was a very bad decision on my part. My advice to anyone thinking of having work done to their furnace, "stay away from THOMSON" if I could give - stars I would. read more

August 21, 2024 UPDATE - Dean arrived in the morning as booked. He drained the refrigerant and systematically checked all the flare connections. He completely replaced/re-flared two connections, thread sealed and re-torqued the rest and pressurized the system to about 595 psi for about an hour. He confirmed that there was no loss of pressure so recharged the system and ran it super cold for about 20 mins. He checked there were no error codes on the heads and confirmed that he thinks the problem is solved. Time will tell whether this has been solved long term. It appears that at the initial installation, there were some corners cut being the use of shorter copper lines. I think it is typical to use a continuous line from the condenser to each head to avoid this exact leak problem. I have taken 2.5 days to deal with this and hope it has been solved long term. It was a total nightmare dealing with Thomson Industries. As per their recommendations New Raypak mid efficiency boiler and hot water tank installed in October 2020. Paid $12m. Had no heat on November 2021 after having yearly maintenance done in October 2021. Spent another $2000 to fix it. Broke down again in January 2022. Had it fixed. November 5/2022 no heat and hot water again. read more

I should have read the reviews first! I contacted Thomson to request installation of an Innova system in our condo. They made an appointment with us for March 7 at 2:00 pm. They confirmed the appointment the day before by email. On the day of the appointment we waited until 3 pm and no one came. When we called, they said the appointment had been cancelled by the company "because of the equipment requested by the customer". The person on the phone could not elaborate on that statement when we asked. We had also requested that 2 strata council members attend the appointment, so 4 people were severely inconvenienced by this company. They did not phone or email us to cancel the appointment. Installation not available till November when its only August. Will be going to the competition. Hire a few more installers. Salesmen are great, installers are great, sounds like management needs to give their head a shake. Competitor offers 5 days installation or $500 off price. read more

This company was terrible from the get go, but we needed a heat pump and so decided to wait the 9 months they promised for the install. When the installers finally came in sept after the heat wave, we were extremely disappointed with the quality of the products, which looked like old 1990 ibm monitors. The installers were surprised that we have not a chosen the other more aesthetically pleasing model also available. Upset, we explained that no discussion had been had with us regarding model options. we were then told the the other models were on back order. as compensation for our hassle the manager (through the installers) promised to order them in and said they would switch them out at no cost to us once in . It should have tipped us off that he never called us as promised on either of the days they were there and just said this through them amd so we paid our invoice. We have probably called their office 50 times requesting that it be put in writing. The first 10 calls we were told that someone would send an email which never came. now a different Manager we spoke to states she sees no record of this promise. Honestly for a company that advertises as much as they do, we honestly didnt Think we would be dealing with crooks. As to the rebate - they hook you in with that but also beware !! They have no idea whether you will get the rebate so you are kind of on your own - so You pay them up front and hope they did things correctly so that you qualify - we still haven't heard. If you have had an install by Thomson Industries we urge you to check if the mandatory permits were ever obtained. You should urgently check with BC Technical Safety and if no permits issued on the install, immediately report the incident. Thomson charges for permits that they never obtain. Of 3 required permits between our two homes, Thomson obtained none and charged us. They have told a BC court judge this was an "oversight" . We were shocked to learn 2 years after the install that both of our homes were unpermitted, and not only were not up to code, but were both deemed to be in a "Hazardous State". This put our families in great danger, potentially voids our home insurance and makes us unable to sell the homes. read more

Get it in writing and do NOT believe any of the quotes or promises of rebates that come from the sales staff or office. We chose to go ahead with this install as we were told we would be eligible for the double rebate, the decision to install was based on that. Throughout the many conversations I had with the office I mentioned during EVERY SINGLE conversation, "I'm confirming the double rebate that was guaranteed since our initial conversation and subsequent conversations." "Yes, you will get the double top up. You can guess what happened when the rebate arrived. Nope, the promise was not kept and the rebate was 1/2 of the promised amount. We NEVER would have done this installation if we knew this would be the outcome. Be warned, they will tell you ANYTHING to get the sale and contract. Buyer beware. read more

I had Thompson Industries install a heat pump for me in June 2021, and I was clear from the outset that I needed to get the CleanBC and Canada Greener Homes rebates. They installed the Daikin Fit DZ17VSA241 and led me to believe it would be no problem getting the rebates. I paid $700 to have pre- and post-retrofit inspections done (as required for Greener Homes), only to be told by the inspector that my heat pump is not on the list of approved heat pumps. More than 1.5 years after the install and it's still not on the list. So, I am out $4000 on the rebate, and $700 on the inspections. I tried to get ahold of Thompson Industries about this issue dozens of times. I was told the GM would get back to me after his vacation, but I have heard nothing, and now my emails are just ignored. I did get ahold of the original sales person, and his response: sorry, keep waiting. When I asked if other customers are in the same boat, I get no reply. No attempt to rectify the mistake or make the customer whole. You decide if this is the kind of business you would sign $16k over to. read more

We purchased a Navien Combi Boiler (a singular unit that would replace the furnace and water boiler and save us a ton of space) from Thomson Industries. We spoke on the phone and then met with their sales rep, Lorne who quoted us a very competitive price. He also did well to answer all of our questions. In fact, for one company at least, we were quoted a price that were significantly higher. My wife, who has been at the house when the installations and follow-up inspections have taken place, has been quite complementary of the staff at the company. They also arranged for all the paperwork to be done to ensure that we would get the energy rebate from Fortis. Aside from a few complications that have cropped up, all of which were re-mediated immediately by Thomson, the unit is working well and we are quite happy with it. read more

Our first servicing contact experience with Thompson was terrible. They made sure to point out that not serving effects warranty. When I did some research I found their pricing is much higher then their competitors by 15%-18%. Then I called Rinnai to confirm I had warranty and its coverage. According to them servicing is NOT mandatory. Rinnai does recommend an annual flushing to extend the life unit but if you do not do it, you still have warranty. What Thompson was quick to point out is that you will lose your "labour" warranty with them if you do not do the regular services. At their pricing, if I instead get regular flushings from a more reasonable partner at a much lower price, saving the labour warranty becomes a moot point. I guess it would make sense if you were willing to pay their labour rates. I am not. I did mention the rates and ask if they had any promos to reduce pricing of the service. They simply said no. Overall, a frustrating and disappointing experience. read more

That company failed to honour their commitment and when approached by the Home Show, Thomson Industries offered to fulfill the order. They completed the job from start to finish very quickly. We were impressed with the knowledge and service we received from Thomson Industries and have been enjoying the air conditioner. I would highly recommend going with Thomson Industries. read more
