Well, it's been a long journey with Kirkland, heating to get my gas fireplace inserted. After many bookings, cancellations, lame excuses, then more cancellations, we finally have our gas fireplace in. It works beautifully. It looks amazing and the guys that put it in were great. My one criticism was that they do not appear to work for Kirkland when they arrive. Barring that, they did a good job and cleaned up well. The front end of this business is overwhelmed, and the ball was dropped many times in the process. Bottom line is I got a great fireplace at a great price, but I sure had to be patient read more

I am always hesitant with trades. I was disappointed when my simple service call ended up costing $500 and then they had to return a few weeks later with another part cost! Well, it turned out okay. I went to the original dealer who installed the furnace and found that these were usual parts and would last another 5 years. I ended up buying a 5 year service plan and also went in to speak to the people and they were truly helpful and gracious about me not having paid my last bill, timely. A mom and pop neighborhood business who appreciates questions and takes the time to ensure you have all of the information. While I don't know much about thermo piles and thermocouples and all the parts of a furnace, everyone was professional and courteous and accepted payment after I was satisfied with responses. Does this give you a hint... Just received a letter from the city inspections dated April 2015. Seems Kirkland didn't fill out the paperwork and we do not have final inspection approval from a job done in 2008! After installing our gas fireplace in 2008, we found that it makes a horrendous noise when you use the remote. Other people seem to have nice quiet switches on the wall. Why wouldn't we be warned not to buy this fireplace? The employees don't care about the customer. Avoid this business. read more

Last year Kirkland installed a new Mini Split Air Conditioning system on the ground floor and Master bedroom. This year they supplied and installed a new High Efficiency Furnace. Both jobs were accomplished with meticulous attention to detail and exhibited a high level of skill and professionalism. Since the house is fully finished and was recently redecorated I can only express my amazement at the absence of damage or disturbance,despite the difficulties encountered. An outside observer would never know they had been in the house. Having dealt with Barney Anderson over many years I can attest to his honesty and integrity. Entrusted with your home he will ensure a completely satisfactory outcome and is as approachable as anyone I have ever dealt with. I was hesitant to go with this place because of the review rating. Then I remembered the wise words of my doctor when I didn't want to go ahead with a surgery because I didn't like the bedside manner of the surgeon. My doctor asked me, "do you want someone pretty to hold your hand or do you want someone who is good with a knife?". That really stuck with me. Complaints I've read about this place have had to do with demeanour and not with their performance. I was also worried because they were ready to get the job done immediately. Barb who answers the phone wasn't rude. She was clear, direct and down to business which I appreciated. Barney seems to be a no bullshit kind of guy (which I LOVE!). He made time to quickly come out and give me the quote I needed at a time when other companies seemed too booked to even take my calls! I think that the reason they were able to jump to serve so quickly is because they staff appropriately for the season. Maybe other companies haven't clued in to the idea that... well, come summer... people want AC units installed and sometime soon would be nice! I had reservations and a ton of questions since I had a recently acquired google doctorate in heating and ac units! Barney was wonderfully patient and explained things to me in a way that wasn't demeaning or belittling. BAM!!! One day. ONE DAY!!! The ac is installed. The 4 person crew that was sent out felt like family. They were sweet and laughed at my jokes. They cleaned up after themselves and were wonderfully careful not to let my terrible cats outside of the house. I feel that the price charged was a good value for the service and system that we had installed. I would recommend them to friends and family and I would use them again in a heart beat! Thanks folks!!! UPDATE... I had to call Barney a month after install because the AC wasn't working. I was freaked out because it is super duper hot out and figured I'd have to wait weeks as they must be swamped. They had someone out to check the system in a couple of hours. Turns out it was because the filters were clogged (totally my fault and so embarrassing!). The tech (Dimitry?) was super kind, cleaned the filters for me, took the time to explain how to do it myself and didn't ask for anything for the service call! THAT IS CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I had them work on my heating system 3 years ago and they did a fine job at that time. However, I have some problems now and have called and left 5 messages with the receptionist. Each time I've called she doesn't recall who I am and I have to reexplain the issue. She keeps saying she's left a message for Barney but he never returns a call. I finally complained to BBB and he called the next day. However, he said he would call back to schedule a service call but NEVER called back. Terrible service. I would not recommend them ever. read more

My experience with Kirkland was excellent.  Barney, the owner/estimator, impressed me immediately with his no-nonsense approach.  He was clearly very knowledgeable and professional, making Kirkland an easy choice for me.  Their quote for a 2-zone ductless mini split was also less expensive than the larger companies. Installation took a bit longer than estimated, but everyone involved was very competent. In particular, Mitch took a lot of trouble assessing and explaining the different installation options to me.  I was very glad for this serious discussion and together we made the exact right choice, based on his expertise. Mitch's strong work ethic was evident as he worked hard to complete and Hosea, the new apprentice, was an able assistant. I am happy with my new air conditioner/heat pump which will now keep my home at the right comfort level. I no longer dread summer heat domes and cold winters.  I also look forward to having Kirkland maintain my equipment. read more

Avoid this place like the plaque. I thought they had gone out of business. If I had known they only had moved, I would have reviewed them earlier. I hired them to install air conditioning in my mint heritage home. Their installation was awful. First off, they tell you that they don't patch any holes that they make. This should have been my first warning sign. When hire someone to install heating and air conditioning, there is inevitably going to be holes in the wall or floors. Basically, you are going to have to hire another contractor and/or a drywall person to clean up the the hatchet job they will do to your house. They were so unskilled, they opened a hinged crawl space door and ran the vent through the opening. I now can't close my crawl space. To make matters even worse, since that crawl space had access to the outside, I then got rats in the house! Finally, they ran the drip line to the side of my house instead of running it to a drain five feet away from where they placed the drain. I now have water damage to the house! They installed a high velocity system. I don't know if high velocity systems suck or if they just installed it incorrectly. Whenever the system comes on, it sounds like a jet engine came on. It runs for a short while and then cycles off. If you want quality work, don't use this company! read more

I phoned on Friday afternoon to report a leak from our hot water tank. A man from their office came right away to check and immediately phoned his office to send someone else out - because we did need a new hot water tank and it takes two people to load the old one out and a new one in. Before they left, they vacuumed the furnace room floor, dusted fixtures around the tank, and replaced everything - tools and file boxes - that they had moved. I was very pleased with their overall service. However, our City needs to be taken to task for the dirty water that spouted out of the new tank. It was explained to me that our water is clean but the City's pipes are not cleaned often enough. read more

Like Paul I was a bit concerned about the lower yelp reviews, however, upon investigation and their profiles of other things that they have reviewed I took that information with the grain of salt. I was in a position in which I really couldn't be picky as we needed someone to come out today to do the installation of the vent and duct installation due to an emergency with a demo. Unfortuneatly, they were unable to come out today which was not a surprise at all given the situation and time frame, however, they were polite on the phone. The gentleman who I spoke with was kind enough to throw some suggestions my way. read more

I recently got Kirkland to service my fireplace. The technician Dimitri was very professional and came a second time as my thermostat wasn't working and did a great job... However, the receptionist was extremely rude all the three times i have to deal with her. It is a pity that such a person with poor personal skills and rude is the one person that one has to book appointments. Although, I am satisfied with the technician work, I really dread call and book an appointment with such rude receptionist. read more

Do not recommend this company. Our experience was one of being ripped off on prices. Charging fees that are highly exaggerated compared to other companies and with a poor attitude to discuss or adjust. We are not looking for service providers to work for nothing but being charged almost double the going rates for simple service, well, that says it all about their way of doing business. read more

I was a bit concerned by some of their lower Yelp reviews, but I needed heat in my house and many of the other companies were booked so I have them a shot. I was impressed with the quality of service, they delivered what they said they would deliver in a prompt fashion. The furnace was replaced and the new one installed in about 6 hours with everything cleaned up. They get a thumbs up from me. Price was reasonable too and a good bit better than some other quotes I had. read more

Kirkland replaced our wood burning fireplace with a gas insert. Contrary to the negative comments, I found Kirkland (Barney, the proprietor) most pleasant and honest to deal with. Unlike other fire place retailer, they were very forth coming and direct with rebate offered by the manufacturer. Best of all, it was installed the NEXT day. The installer Kyle and his helper were knowledgeable and respectful to our house. Top notch! I highly recommend them. read more

After calling various companies and getting quotes, we decided to go with this company to replace our water heater. A month after the install, we experienced major flooding in the main floor particularly in the room next to where the hot water tank was installed. The damage to our home was so extensive that it involved an insurance claim and a 3rd Party in charge of doing all the repairs to our floors, walls etc. After the preliminary investigation, the insurance company came to the conclusion that the flooding was caused by the new water tank. We were told that the company that did the install (Kirkland) set up the water pressure too high and this caused our water pipes to burst. We contacted Kirkland and spoke to the owner but he said that the installation was done well and blamed the problem on our water pipes. Needless to say, he did not take any responsibility over what had happened nor did he offer to do anything for us. We are now left with a water heater that as it turns out ALSO had a defective shut off mechanism. It kept on shutting off ALL THE TIME. We called a contractor who informed us that this particular model had a defect and a part had to be changed to solve this problem. We didn't bother calling Kirkland about this problem. We figured if the owner was incapable of dealing with the 1st problem we reported to him, what was the likelihood of him doing something about this new problem? We decided to save us some time & money and solve the problem ourselves by hiring a more professional company who is better equipped to fix "someone else's" mistakes. Kirkland DID NOT help us with any of the issues that arose as a result of the water heater we purchased from them. Their customer service is non-existent and they do not stand behind their products. If you are looking for a company that stands behind its products & services, you'd better look elsewhere!!! From our experience, we would NOT recommend this company to anyone we know. read more

I was there wanting to inquire about my options of either fixing my older gas fireplace or purchasing a brand new one instead. I tried to call them this afternoon for fireplace cleaning next month as I'm currently out of town. I don't have a landline at my apartment and I only use an out-of-province cell phone. This lady yelled at me that I could not provide my home phone just because I don't have one. She said "do you want me to call you long distance?" I don't think it costs too much for a long distance call, and I could easily pick up a couple of pop cans on the street to cover it for her!!! read more

My parents had hired them for a furnace installation many years ago. It was an old, complicated house and they did a fine job. Cut to 2005 when I purchased my own home and needed to install a new furnace. The basement was unfinished and I planned on putting a legal rental suite in. I had Kirkland come out prior to doing any plans for the suite and with a blank slate, asked them to tell me the best place to install the furnace, keeping in mind that I would want to add an A/C unit to it at a later date when budget allowed. They indicated where to put it so I took their advice and paid them almost $9,000 for a high-efficiency furnace. Ugh. The furnace itself is fine but the installation was botched. First, they neglected to pull a permit for the installation after that was part of our contract. As a result, my renovations were shut down by the inspector costing me time and money. I found out from a gas inspection years later that they used the wrong kind of pipe for venting. They put it in a place where there is no room to install an A/C unit so that's a bust. They never installed the thermostat correctly and only after I hired someone else to come put a new one in, did they discover that half of the wiring for it had never been hooked up. Now I've just had a company come in to clean the ducts and they can't do it because the piping was installed incorrectly and too close together. Well, F me. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. read more

Poor timing! We called once before for an appointment back in October. The guy gave us a time he would be coming by and we waited home all day and he never showed up. Finally we call them to double check why they are held up and they said that they wouldn't be able to make it after all. Then they rescheduled to come the next morning. The problem was resolved on the appointment in October (our pilot light wouldn't stay on). Recently, our furnace acted up again and we thought we'd give them a call. Someone told us they would be at our place between 10am-12am. I waited home all morning and no one showed up. My 6 month old baby and I are freezing because we have no heat. Called them at 12:30pm and they said the guy was still at another job and won't be at my house until another hour. Unbelievable. I had to cancel a lunch appointment just to wait around my house all day for them. Very unreliable with their time estimates. I'm looking for another business to deal with from now on. read more
