We had to replace a small part of our 10 year old rock we purchased from Thompson due to a plumbing issue below our front porch. It was a small order but Francisco was throuogh and patient and we found the perfect replacement with his guidance. We were able to have it loaded into our vehicle and highly recommend this 56 year old company and Francisco for all your stone needs. read more

One star is a serious stretch. I recently purchased a lot of material from these guys and dealt with several of the employees in the yard location at the corner of Glassell and Taft. All of the employees have attitudes and act like they are doing you a favor by taking an order. I'm a business owner myself and if my employees treated customers the way they do, I would fire all of them and start over. The owner of this business needs to clean house, that is if he/she even cares about the business and its customer base. The customer service here is absolutely horendous!!!! After going to the yard to make my initial order I called because I forgot to order a couple of pieces of material. After spending several wasted minutes on the phone, no one could find my order and they admit that they have an archaic computer system and are unable to look up an order without knowing who took the order. It was also very apparent that the employee I was talking to was way too lazy to try to find it. He simply told me that I need to figure out who I ordered from and come back into the store. I will say that they have a lot of product and a good convenient location but that is all they have going for them. Their prices aren't great and if you are willing to travel a bit farther I highly recommend going elsewhere. Needless to say, I won't be doing business with Thompson ever again! read more

This is our 5th time purchasing from Thompson materials. It's always been stressful since we work on big purchases. Our experience with Antonio, one of the guys who works on moving pallets of brick was incredibly helpful and made us feel like we were making a good decision. However, a back house manager for the bricks came out while we were deciding on the pallet and was SUPER rude to us. He treated us like poorly and it seems like he hates his job. It was terrible and if it wasn't for Antonio I probably wouldn't have ended up purchasing again. This company really needs to check this manager. Please give a great review to Antonio and the front office staff, they were awesome. read more

I visited Thompson's looking for paver/concrete blocks for a back yard planter to match the Orco pavers I had just had installed. I was lucky to meet Jesse who found exactly what I had in mind in less than 5 minutes! I couldn't believe it. Apparently, he is very familiar with all the products. Mixed reviews here. They have a good supply of materials Purchased a fair amount of product from them. Had a problem with one of their custom made products. Contacted the company several times and they did nothing. So, I contacted my credit card company and they issued a refund. Finally Thompson responded by theatening me with a lawsuit. Sure enough, I received a summons for Small Claims Court. They continued to try to get me to back down, but I felt that they were wrong so I played their bluff. Went to court and the judge ruled in my favor. Thompson appealed the ruling and lost again. Thompson still called after the ruling and tried to get me to pay. Needless to say, I won't be doing business with a company that doesn't treat their customers fairly. read more

The have awesome product and are helpful during the order process but they have the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Everyone there is rushed and doesn't seem to have the time to even consider answering a question. They assume the customer is wrong before they take the time to investigate to find the answer. The supply that they have is pretty good and I like how they have the pavers outside and set to view in the sunlight. I like the indoor display of the paver borders and different materials that they have on display. Very easy to see and to visualize whether something would work or not. That is where the good stuff stops. With a bevy of employees behind the counter how in the world can everyone that has taken THREE of our orders mess up? All three times we called and they had no record of the order being placed or they messed it up some how. Really? It's ridiculous. The employees are totally incompetent if a sales order can't be properly placed and if I were the owner I'd fire everyone and start fresh. What's the point of having an decent inventory only to have your employees screw up taking the orders? Sir, do you realize how much you've lost in sales? Never will I go there. NEVER. Thompsons is a one stop shop for me as a landscape designer. On many projects I get everything I need aside from plant material, soil and fertilizer. Have used them on numerous projects for base gravel, dg, pea gravel, compost, decorative pebbles, boulders, stacked stone, top soil etc. They offer a flat rate on delivery, regardless of how much material, as long as it fits on one truck and believe me you can fit LOTS of material in one delivery. Delivery cost is dependent on the city but in most cases everything I need from Thompsons cost less including delivery than from a place that may be right down the street from a particular job site. This review is specific to the Orange yard & The Design Center down the street, as I've not always had as much 'luck' at the Lomita location. The delivery drivers usually are very willing to work with me as far as placement of loose materials which can greatly add to my efficiency and save my client money, and these guys for the most part are highly skilled at maneuvering the skip loaders to unload materials on site. Great experience buying products from Thompson and even more getting it delivered, the driver was amazing ! He was super helpful. I had a yard project that started with planters in front and back yard, new porch and a couple of small walkways. I hired a masonry guy who suggested I go to Thompson in Orange for ideas and to buy. I made several trips as the options are mind boggling. They have such a great selection of ledgestone, flagstone, capstones,brick, brick facia. I was like a kid in a candy store. Each visit, I was always approached and asked if I had questions or needed assistance. I prefer to browse on my own and then ask questions on items I like. This was no problem for the staff. Having read many of the "complaints" here, I saw people at Thompson's Design Center who wanted staff to build their entire dream project from the ground up. There are other people who need assistance, so be patient. Have a staff person get you started and then check out on your own. As a suggestion for the folks at Thompson, I might suggest changing the name of the Design Center to Showroom. That way, shoppers don't get the wrong impression of what you do. When I had narrowed down my choices, I was helped by Lori who was very nice, professional, attentive and knowledgeable. She even steered me away from a very expensive paver which was great because I got something similar at a competitor at a really great price. The guys at their other place a couple of blocks away,where you pay for your materials and get your deliveries scheduled, were awesome. I especially want to thank Aurelio who helped me get everything done via phone and email. He was most helpful, super nice and a man of his word. And when I had to go back again, twice, to get more product, Johnny helped me and he was super. Great customer service! Even the guys in their pickup yard and their delivery guy were great. The one thing I really appreciated from Lori, Johnny and the guys in the pick up yard was they remembered me! I'm sure they see hundreds of faces a day, but it was nice for them to remember me! I have recommended Thompson to several neighbors already and I hope they have the same great overall experience I did. I plan to reface my fireplace with something more contemporary, so I will be a continued customer and fan of Thompson. read more

Thompson's has a great selection of natural and artificial stackstone products like El Dorado. Lots of different masonry options here such as pavers and flagstone. There are also wall options with different caps. Plenty of brochures for customers to grab and take home. If you plan on remodeling your backyard I would recommend you visit this design center first. Right down the street is Patio Warehouse as well. They can build your patio cover in conjunction with the hardscape work. We got some great contractors from these places. read more

Today, I visited the Orange showroom looking for flagstone. My sister is looking for "stacked stone" so she came along. We had a great experience there. Marshall, our salesperson, was so helpful and knowledgeable. They have a large selection of stone nicely displayed and will provide you with samples, if you want them. After going to the Orange showroom, I don't see any reason to look elsewhere. If you've gone to one of their stoneyards, you should still go to the Orange showroom. read more

The design center is very nice and the staff there are helpful. What this company lacks is back office logistics. They had a hard time locating the brick I wanted when one guy found it in their system, but another guy couldn't. Then I had to order more brick a month later and they had difficulty locating it again. Then I tried to return some excess brick and they said they would give me credit, but they never did. I think their intention was to give me a refund, but they's back office is so messed up that they just goofed. I suggest going to Thompson's for design ideas and then going to a smaller place to buy your material. read more
