Thomas Watson was recommended to me by a friend. He is an independent stylist located in the Luxe Apothetique boutique in The Domain, right across from NoRTH. I had been getting my hair cut at the beauty college for $7 for years and would never have gone to a more professional (read: more expensive) salon if my boyfriend hadn't offered to pay for it as a gift. Wow, I am hooked now! The first time I went last year, he gave me the best haircut I had ever had. He did things nobody had ever done before. My hair was not even to the middle of my back and he spent 2 hours cutting and styling it!
I hadn't been back to him for maybe a year because I was bartering haircuts for dog training services with someone else, but I sure did notice the difference! I decided to start going back to him this week for good and man am I glad I did. I'd realized my hair was looking awful, but nobody had said anything about it, just cut it and sent me home. Thomas pointed out that there was a lot of breakage in the middle of the hair and more was coming out than normal when it was washed, which is why it was looking so bushy. Plus, the stylist putting layers in like I'd asked for actually made it look worse because the hair wasn't in good enough condition to support it. He said he would do a few specific alterations in the haircut to get it looking as good as possible with the current condition. He told me that it could be genetic, stress or lifestyle (not eating and sleeping well), or medical (thyroid, hormone levels, or vitamin deficiencies), that the hair is often the first sign that something is wrong, and encouraged me to go to the doctor and push for some testing to make sure everything was ok. Wow! How awesome that he knew about that and stopped to tell me because before that, I just thought all that was normal!
He is VERY knowledgeable about styles and techiniques and keeps up with the latest and greatest in the hair styling world. He has been doing this for 38 years and obviously believes in continuing education about his trade. He also doesn't try to push you to buy expensive products, either, though he will recommend things if you ask. He is a super nice guy and I will definitely keep going to him. HIGHLY recommend him! read more
