A no-nonsense, trustworthy, knowledgeable dentist that will be honest with you and not overcharge or push you for unnecessary procedures. He has been in practice for almost 40 years, but will be retiring soon. He's had patients stick with with him for just about that long (loyal patients = must be doing something right). He may not have the most updated equipment or super swanky office, but he gets the job done and in the end, that's all that really matters! I also didn't mind the old-school decor. It was comforting in a way. The office staff has always been welcoming and never hesitated to answer any questions I had. When I had some tooth pain, they made sure to reach me even though their office was closed for the day. Thank you! The hygienist is sweet and does a very thorough cleaning. My teeth feel amazing afterwards. She's awesome. It'll be sad when this dental practice officially closes, but at least the office staff will be moving to another practice together. I would not recommend this place to anyone! They have this one dental assistant that never smiles and then you have Dr. Hom. He has a mind of his own. He's disrespectful and unpleasant. He was so rough cleaning my teeth, my gums were bleeding, and my mouth was sore after. He is money hungry and he doesn't hold back with showing his anger to you. I've been a patient for over 7 years. They are terrible. I come here for my routine cleaning two times a year and get my teeth checked. Can't recall but I get X-rays once a year or every two years .I went in early in the morning because of major tooth pain that kept me up all morning. Once I walked in without a appointment the reception and the staff started screaming at me. I explained my situation and that I didn't mind waiting .Then when Dr Hom went to look at my teeth he said I needed a tooth extraction. I was told I have an infection and major bone loss. I said if it was something that severe why was I never warned. I guess he wasn't happy with that remark because he wasn't very gentle afterwards. I am so glad I switch to a new dentist because I was told I have 3 cavities. What kind of dentist is Dr Hom if he overlooks bone loss and cavities! read more

His office is located near Chinatown in a sort of Co-op complex on the ground floor. The front desk is mainly run by Chinese / broken English woman. They weren't terribly polite, but not rude either. The office is not state-of-the-art. It looked like something from the late 80's - early 90's decor. My overall impression was that there was a lack of money to keep up the place but all the details were taken care of. There were no marks, or scuffs, or dirtiness that I could find anywhere. The place was clean...old fashioned but clean. I finally met with Dr. Wu and Dr. Hom. Dr. Wu is younger. He is a chubby man with a kind face. He was articulate, friendly, and honest. Dr. Hom came in. He is an older Chinese man, spoke perfect English, and also very friendly, trustworthy, patient, and eager to help. My opinion about this office is that it is A-OK. While it falls short on the surface compared to competitors, it makes up for with character and charm. read more

It doesn't get much better than Dr. Tom Hom - his office is no BS, and you get the best cleaning I've ever experienced. He isn't a dentist that will try to up-sell you and tell you that you need things done like most other dentists do - he keeps it real, and you will be thankful you went down to Park Row for it! read more

Dr. Hom has been my dentist for about 30 years, ever since my former dentist retired. He is genial but fast, a quality I like. Sometimes, after the hygienist has cleaned my teeth, he discovers a cavity and takes care of it the same day, without needing to make another appointment. Prices for onlays and crowns have always been quite reasonable. He is a no-nonsense dentist, supported by a staff I always found equally congenial, in spite of other reviewers here. The amity in the office is supported by the fact that many, like Helena, have been with him longer than I have. Yes, the waiting room is less than awesome, but if you want decor go someplace else. And he was U.S. born, if anybody cares--that's why no accent! read more

The dentistry involved is perfectly average. It gets the job done, and there's nothing wrong with it. The problems come primarily from the secretaries that are terrible at their jobs. I've been double booked, only to find out the day of that I would not be able go. I've been told to call the next day, only to call the next day and be told to call the next day. While this place is average in every regard, trying to get an appointment that you know will stick is probably the hardest part. If it's convenient for you to come here, do so. If not, there are better dentists out there. read more

Dr. Hom himself is great but the I need to downgrade due the front desk...good lord. So incredibly rude. They don't speak English well (which in itself not a problem, but coupled with being rude, who wants to put up with it?) keep you on hold forever without any indication they are coming back or that they are putting you on hold, snap at you and leave much to be desired in basic politeness and professionalism. Really? One would think you would try harder being a small office. As the owner of a small business myself, I would fire anyone that talked to a client the way I was dealt with. I'm not sure the front desk understands anything about basic civility or professionalism. I'm sure if the Dr. knew he would not appreciate it, but of course, you would need to get by the lovely front desk to let him know.
