Just...no...better to travel outside of Cloverdale. Made an appointment here for convenience but my prescription was way off.

Found a great optometrist right here in Cloverdale! Very helpful with all my questions- I ordered…read morenew glasses and they arrived within a week, was here last week to pick them up and get fitted for new contacts! Great selection on glasses and a lot that my insurance covers. Friendly staff and it does get busy in the afternoons, but morning appointments are the way to go I have seen! I look forward to many visits here!

This is an update to my original review. Do NOT go to this optometrist. I cannot imagine that there…read moreare many worse optometrists, but I'll let you be the judge by detailing it all in my first scathing review ever. Firstly, he got a new receptionist who never returns calls, so good luck getting anything taken care of in a timely manner. Or at all. I called on October 2nd to order new contacts. She informed me that she would call me back the next day "no matter what" because apparently she needed Dr. Hoyer to make the order. Spoiler alert! She never called me. So on October 23, I called back again and left a voicemail. No one returned my call. So on October 30 I physically went IN to the office. Keep in mind I have no need for an exam or anything, so I should be able to easily make the simple order for contacts over the phone, right? WRONG! She informs me again that she will be "calling me tomorrow no matter what." Welp, today is "tomorrow," and guess what? No call! Additionally, Dr. Hoyer is constantly out of the office on days when they are supposed to be open. I don't know WHY exactly he is open because every time I need something done, they tell me that they need him to get it done! When he IS in the office, he is very scatterbrained. His filing systems are extremely outdated along with the rest of his office. I'll tell you my first impression from April below. The first time I sat for an exam, I came in to get a new prescription, get new contacts and lenses for my glasses, and get a diagnosis and solution for some eye irritation I'd been experiencing. In that appointment, he only got a rough prescription and didn't tell me what it was. He forgot about the steroid he was going to prescribe me for my eye issue. He forgot about the glasses. He asked me to send him a picture of my old contacts boxes. I thought it was for further discussion, but what I didn't realize was we were actually ordering them (without the NEW prescription!). I thought he just wanted the same brand and type. I got a call a few days later saying my contacts were in, and I was super confused. I had to come back later for a precise prescription. He did fit me in without an appt because one of his appts canceled, so that was nice. We got the new precise prescription (finally) and ordered the glasses. I went to pick them up on Thursday, when they're open later, till 5:30. They had left and closed early! The next day, they were open only from 9am to 12pm, but he wasn't in the office (he's the only optometrist in the practice so WhyAreYouOpeeeen??!!). I was able to pick up my glasses, but when I called back an hour later because I wasn't satisfied with them, I was unable to get my needs taken care of. He failed to tell me about all the options for the lenses like materials and anti-scratch and anti-reflective coatings which came standard with my last optometrist, so I couldn't make an informed purchase. I even asked about other options because I told him I knew my lenses weren't the standard and he was dismissive and told me it was unnecessary and just told me about one better quality option. Well, I didn't know any better, so I said okay yeah it must be that one. It wasn't. I had to send them back to get the anti-scratch and anti-reflective coating on it which could have been completely avoided by just giving me all the information in the first place. Oh! He also uses the same contact lens case if for all patients if you take them out during the appointment. Gross! He says it's "debatable" whether that's risky or not. O_o DEBATABLE? Uhhh, so can we play it safe? with my EYES?! The ONLY plus side is that he is very budget friendly, but you know how the saying goes. You get what you pay for. I do get contacts and glasses for the same cost as Costco, which is the cheapest I've found. So, have ZERO confidence with this guy. I still don't know that my prescription is precise. I would rather drive 3 hours to Roseville for an appt with my last optometrist (shoutout to Dr. Swanson!), knowing that I have to pay a lot more and travel a lot farther to have that confidence in my care.
