I was referred here by my MD and thank goodness I was. My doctor, Dr. Gross is professional and made me feel at ease. His assistant, Gia was also very professional and very nice. They both made me feel comfortable and let me know what I should expect with my eye care and what I needed to know. If the parking lot is filled they actually have valet available, complimentary of course. The also have an optical store on site, with many different brands, from DKNY to Anne Klein. If you're like me and have a need for corrective vision care I would definitely recommend making this your first stop. read more

Thomas Eye Group was an amazing experience for me. I was looking to get LASIK and went through another company (Milan Eye Care). After two visits there, I decided to look elsewhere because of the bad service. My co-worker randomly walked into my office and told me he was getting LASIK at Thomas Eye Center. I checked the yelp reviews and saw they were not great, but he said his experience was good so far. I went in and met with Mara, who was very helpful. I scheduled a routine eye exam appointment To see Dr. Jerry Berland. However, during the course of my visit the assistant ASKED me was there anything I noticed with my child's eyes that I noticed. Due to him asking I verbalized two things that I noticed. Little did I know, me answering his questions changed my appointment from a routine eye exam to a medical eye exam. That is POOR customer service, I went from only having to pay a co-pay to having to pay for a full appointment without any type of notification. The only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars is the DANG WAIT TIMES! Why make appointments if they're always 1 hour or more passed the given time? Not once have we left here in less than an hour and a half. The longest eye appointment trying to sit with a 2 year old has been 3 hours. I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with my care and subsequent dealings with Thomas Eye Group, specifically regarding Dr. Blasberg's office. During my visit on January 5th, Dr. Blasberg refused to wear a mask properly (over his nose and mouth), as suggested by the CDC. This should have been the first warning that I should have cancelled my appointment and left. I stayed, however, and explained to Dr. Blasberg that I had an annoying stye on my right eye that was responsible for multiple days of missing work due to it being irritated. Dr. Blasberg examined it and determined that it could be removed in the office. He explained that the site would be irritated and swollen for up to a week, and red for up to three weeks. He proceeded to remove it, and indeed, my eye was sore and swollen, as he predicted. A few days later, I was diagnosed with COVID-19. Given that I hadn't gone anywhere or done anything since my stye removal, and the doctor wasn't wearing a mask properly, its only logical to guess that I got it at Thomas Eye Group in Sandy Springs. On January 17th, I was alerted to the fact that the paperwork that my company requested indicating that my eye would be sore and swollen had not made it back to my company. I reached out to Thomas Eye Group on several occasions, visiting the office twice more, trying to get this form filled out by the deadline of 1/27/2022. After learning that my company still hadn't received the paperwork by the deadline, I went back to the office again on January 31st. It took close to an hour to figure out where the paperwork was and who filled it out. It was STILL without Dr. Blasberg's signature. A manager, MJ, came out finally to let me know that Dr. Blasberg didn't want to sign the paperwork as he didn't believe that my condition - irritation and swelling - didn't interfere with my ability to do my job - which the FAA requires the use of my eyes. MJ indicated that she would try again and I could come pick up the paperwork at noon today, February 1st. I received a phone call from her at 11:30am, letting me know that Dr. Blasberg would give me a work excuse note for January 5th, but wouldn't sign the form I needed. Needless to say, I won't be returning. Additionally, I won't be recommending any of my family/friends use Thomas Eye Group AND I'll be letting my referring doctor of my experience and asking them not to subject anyone else to the lack of service I received at the Sandy Springs office. read more

I appreciate the doctors in this group, however something need to be done with their time management. They overbook appointments and have to wait hours after my schedule time before I see the doctor. Today was ridiculous. surgery schedule for 10 am. Got here by 9:45 and could not find a place to park. Sat waiting for 1.5 hrs before they came and get me. I didn't eat anything since before 10 pm last night. My son stepped away from work to bring me and now he has to end up taking the day off. Can confirm - spent over 2 hours waiting (with a confirmed appointment) to be seen & a total of 5 minutes with the doctor. I left with my issue unresolved and owed them multiple hundred dollars after insurance. Entire visit felt like I was just a number to them vs a person and that I was just another patient in the assembly line they had going. Dr Kaufman is a wonderful doctor! I can't say enough. If you want honest opinion and results, he is your guy. He is patient and understanding. My dad has partial loss of vision in his left eye. I LOVE the staff at Thomas Eye Group! Everyone I've come in contact with has been absolutely wonderful. I did have a little bit of a wait, but when I got in the exam room with Dr. Sackel, he took the time to answer my many questions about a procedure I hadn't even decided I was going to get. And then he let me call my husband to answer his questions so we could make an informed decision together. There were so many wonderful staff members who helped me during my visit, but Claire (one of the surgery center managers) actually returned my call to respond to a request at 6:30 on a Friday evening. She was very patient while listening to my request, and even though she wasn't the staff member assigned to handle the request, she still took care of me. Wait times are atrocious here. I went to go pick up my glasses from the optical department, waited for an hour, then just gave up and went home. The ridiculous part was that I was second on the list. They are either so understaffed or they just don't care. I lean on the latter. I mean you sign your name on a clipboard and wait. All the optical desks are empty with no staff. Horrific! I've been a patient of Thomas Eye Group on Barfield Road for over 20 years and received excellent and efficient service and care. Until last year. I'm always punctual but I was kept waiting for 2 hours and left without ever seeing the doctor. But I decided to give Thomas Eye Group another try. I was there this morning and the parking lot that wrapped around the building had not one empty space. I parked beside the building for 10 minutes and finally saw one open up. Inside the building, the reason was obvious. Every waiting room was jam-packed. In my assigned waiting room patients were being churned out every 10 minutes. After waiting a half hour I asked how long before I would be called and was told there were 2 patients ahead of me. I cancelled my appointment and left. Thomas Eye Group has excellent ophthalmologists but if patients are forced to wait so long and their doctors are being forced to process patients at that rate I can't see how their service cannot be affected in time. It's sad. And I suspect an excellent medical firm is being degraded by corporate greed. read more

Someone else said it best... this place is an eye care factory. My daughter was referred here after a NICU stay. We went a few times and I was always bothered by the fact that the doctor (don't remember her name) didn't seem to "vibe" with children. The doctor was brusque and business-like. No bedside manner. This was odd because she was dealing with a baby - and later a toddler. During our last visit here the doctor told me my daughter needed tear duct surgery. She said my daughter would basically have a lifetime of misery due to not being able to wear mascara because of the way her eyes were running. It's probably not a good idea to tell a new mom, who just brought her baby home from a long NICU stay, that surgery is needed for the sake of mascara. Really? My daughter's eyes definitely had a lot of tearing. But I didn't trust that she needed surgery, so I took the paperwork the doctor gave me and set it aside. A year or so later, my daughter's eyes stopped tearing without any intervention. I'm glad I didn't pay money to have the surgery done (and also glad I didn't put my daughter through another procedure). read more

Bought a pair of glasses and ordered contact lenses here. Wasn't sure how thin I wanted my lenses (they charge about $200 extra to not have thick lenses) so I asked just make sure the lens isn't thicker than the frame. Glasses arrive and the lens is almost double the thickness of the frame - so thick the glasses were incredibly heavy and painful to wear longer than an hour at a time. You'd think I'm half blind by how thick the lenses the were (I'm only -3.00). I also paid extra for anti glare, light and behold when my almost $900 glasses arrived, they were defiantly not anti glare. You pay extra for pretty much everything here, just FYI. Luckily they offered to order new lenses but I will be paying extra for the thin lenses. I'm pissed that I've spent almost $1000 for such poor lenses and I still don't have a pair of glasses to wear. Now as for the contact lenses... I ordered them and paid extra for expedited shipping as I needed them by the end of the week. I was guaranteed they would arrive by then no problem, as long as I pay extra. The lenses still have not arrived (it's been well over a week). I've called and they're resubmitting my order and refunding my expedited shipping. Again, spending so much for nothing. Overall, my experience has been subpar product and service for luxury pricing. Not worth it. Find a local boutique or small business instead where you aren't charged for every little thing and your orders won't get lost in the shifflI doubt I will be returning with my business. UPDATE: Just received a bill in the mail charging me for my glasses a second time. Currently trying to reach someone to disputed this bill but no one will respond. The doctors are very good but the long, long wait times are ridiculous. I have never been there without a 1.5 hour wait to see the doctor for 10 minutes. It is also impossible to get in touch with the contact fitting department. No one ever answers the phone, requiring you to leave a message that will be returned in 24 hours. This eye doctor doesn't value customer service at ALL especially during a global pandemic. I placed an order for contacts and was denied my contacts due my annual prescription being expired. I have been with this doctor for five years, and they can verify my presentation hasn't changed in five years so the fact I need to go in for annual exam for a prescription which hasn't changed is completely pointless. The last thing I want to do during a pandemic is have a stranger breathing in my face to tell me my prescription hasn't changed and they get to collect my insurance money for the annual exam. We can blatantly see this organization values collecting and profiting off insurance money over their patients well being. Good luck with these business practices. read more

We were referred to Thomas Eye group by our pediatrician due to an eye issue with our son. We had a good first visit on Friday, we were at the office for over 2.5hrs but they dilated his eyes, did a full eye exam as well as spent a good amount of time with me talking about a treatment plan for what my son had going on. It was a great visit and we saw Dr. Jerry Berland as well as a medical student who was shadowing him and we were so pleased with the care. We scheduled a follow up appointment for Monday after the weekend to see how his eye was progressing. Upon scheduling, I was told it would be a quick follow up due to the fact they would not need to dilate his eyes etc. We arrived at 3:10pm for our appointment at 3:20pm got checked in and sat down in the waiting area. It was not long (10min maybe) and we were taken back to a room for his initial check by a doctor I believe his name was Nick, he was so friendly did all of the checks on my son and said he was looking great. He informed me the doctor only sees patients in certain room numbers so I would need to go back to the waiting area and they would call me back soon to be seen by the doctor. This was the same at our last appointment so we headed back to the waiting room. My son is 2 years old, so keeping him occupied in the waiting area is hard, but I brought a few trucks that he was playing with in a room to the side that is set up like a theater but the TV is currently out of order. He started playing with two other little kids all of which where both 5 years old and under. They were having a good time laughing and playing, but in the room to the side not in anyones way. A office staff member then comes storming out into the waiting area and looks around and loudly says "is everything okay because there is A LOT of noise out here, we are worried" she then looks down at the boys playing with the little cars. We say yes, I am sorry if they disturbed you and proceeded to get the boys to be quiet. She then proceeded to come back and give the kids who I can only assume she deemed to be on good behavior suckers into the waiting area but did not offer the three little boys one. Mind you the other kids in the waiting area where 8+ and all on devices or reading books and sitting with their parents, not young little ones. My son then proceeded to ask why he couldn't have a sucker and the staff member proceeded to smirk at us and walk back into the back of the office. We then waited in the waiting area while every other patient was called back. It finally hit 4:57pm (the office closes at 5:00pm), we had arrived for a 3:20pm appointment and have been sitting in the waiting area for over 1.5hrs my son and I are the only ones left in the waiting area. I go back and just check on the status, a very nice different staff member informed we were next. At 5:02pm we were finally taken to a room, the staff member who gave out the suckers earlier came to get us. She did not call us by name just shortly said "follow me", and then when we got to the room, flung the door open with no instruction as to where we needed to sit how long it would be etc. I stood in the doorway waiting for instruction like we where given last time we were here and she said "do you have a problem?" I politely said no I was just waiting for instruction on where to sit, and she just closed the door a left without a word said to me. We finally saw the doctor, Dr. Jerry Berland at around 5:10pm and had a great experience with him as we did on our first visit. He was so informative, nice and great with our son. We were only in the room for maybe 3 min with him as it was a quick follow up and my son is healing nicely. Unfortunately, with how much we enjoyed Dr. Berland we will not be returning to Thomas Eye Group due to the experience with the office staff. It was uncalled for behavior from the staff. As well as we never received any type of acknowledgement that we waited over 1hr 45min to see the doctor when we had appointment at 3:20pm (not requiring dilation) and were not seen until after 5:00pm. I understand that business can be busy and days can run behind I just needed to know what to expect especially because I have a 2 year old and did not expect to be the very patient last seen when multiple kids who came un after us were seen and gone before we were ever taken back. I will not recommend this practice as well as will be sending my experience to our pediatrician who referred us as I am sure they do not appreciate this treatment of their patients. read more

This review is aimed solely at Dr Jeffrey Carlisle. The rest of the practice is amazing. I have a special needs son that had been seeing a pediatric doctor at the practice but she refused to see him this year because he turned 21. I was told Jefferey Carlisle could do the same things for my son. After looking at his retinas and questioning why bc an issue was unlikely to happen (obviously didn't want to see him) he started to leave. I asked about my son's eye exam for glasses and his response was "What good would it do?" Seriously? Told him I wanted him to be able to see as much as possible. Had to try to maneuver my wheelchair bound son with no head control up the equipment they use for normal people bc he didn't have the equipment or expertise to evaluate his vision they way they do pediatric patients and babies. The worst bedside manner ever and made me feel like my son was not important and an annoyance in his day. Will obviously see another doctor moving forward. read more

Today we waited almost THREE hours to get my kid's eyes checked. To find out that he didn't need anything. (Which is great but not what pediatrician said.) that is TOO long for any child to wait. We went to this eye doc 6 years ago for strabismus surgery, and the appointments were so painful then it took me SIX years to take him back. And yet, their scheduling is still horrific. Absurd. And dr berland was so impressed with himself with his results from years ago that he was a jerk. And I just said we will find another doctor bc he's not worth the wait. He is NOT. Also, my husband went for an appt there a couple weeks ago and he was there for hours, too. It seems to be a scheduling issue and them not seeing patients as people with things to do. Sigh. A simple eye exam turned into a 2hr. 30 minute ordeal with real doctor time lasting only 10 minutes. There was wait before they took us in, there was huge wait after initial info. gathering and excruciating wait (of an hour) after dilation whereas pupils just need 15-20 minutes to dilate. At the end the doc (Jerry Berland) seemed nice but was in a huge hurry to get done and move on to the next one. And it doesn't end there.. they overcharged me by $150+. I registered a complain but it has been turned down. I called Cigna, but they weren't able to help either. In conclusion, poor scheduling, pathetic back office and very average doctor! read more

I walked out of an appointment today after waiting more than 2 hours to be seen by the MD. This is unacceptable. Other practices manage to see patients relatively on schedule. And when the staff finally called people ahead of me back to be seen, their attitude was not "we're so sorry for your long wait", but rather "Hey! It's finally YOUR turn!" My time is not a joke. Their locations are not convenient, and I will no longer fight traffic only to wait that long. This is a "get 'em in/get 'em out" clinic setting, and caring for patients is not their highest priority. UPDATE: after seeing this review, I got a call from someone at the practice. He left a voice mail message apologizing. He explained that the reason for the delay was a combination of volume of appointments after the holiday and several medical emergencies. My response to that? Fine, then TELL me! Don't just leave patients sitting in the waiting room for hours. Also, give me the option to reschedule. You will note that the people who rate this practice badly have the same complaint - long waits. So my initial complaint stands. This is a poorly run practice that does not address its scheduling problems AND does not sensitize its staff to handling such issues. Moving on. 2ND UPDATE: The conclusion of the conversation was that he wanted to encourage me to go to Yelp and update my review. Really? Was that the real reason for the call? And, like a kiss on the end of a hot, wet fist, I got a form letter from the MD over the weekend about how honored they were to provide me with care, and hoped I enjoyed my experience with their caring staff. read more

don't go here. they charge an arm and a leg for glasses. then the glasses were not ready for weeks. when they finally came in, I could not see out of them. the woman insisted it must be how I was looking out of the glasses. I told her I can't see if I look down or to the left. they agreed to replace. I emailed several times, still they were not there. in the meantime I was waiting for contacts to be shipped. when the contacts finally came, I received a full box of contacts with no prescription! so I had to send those back. thomas eye group had given me a sample pair of glasses to wear while I waited. each time I called, no glasses. I finally gave up when my contacts arrived and just dealt with it. i found a new eye doctor. A year later Nate contacted me asking if wanted my glasses. I called and said, can you just refund the difference I paid. he said no we can send these. I said i went somewhere else since I never got my glasses and he said no we do t refun and began talking over me. I said please don't talk over me. he said I'm not, you have a motive, you want a refund. I said I want the difference I paid refunded sonce I never received the glasses with all the up charges that the opthamologist said I needed and out of which I could not see! I was seen quickly and after a thorough eye exam, my eyes were dilated and I was sent to waiting room for my eyes to dilate completely. (That was the only time I had to wait!)
