I have just been told he may be another 30 minutes because he is in a consult. the staff here are very unfriendly. There optometry department where you order glasses has a liar in it. The lady made glasses for my 5 year old after I selected the frames unbeknownst to me added an additional $120 in add one to my kids lenses and only gave me a final price. I received an email with the final price when I arrived home. I reached back out to this office and the person on the phone said yes orders can be canceled within 24hours, she'll have to reach out to her manager. Two weeks later and multiple calls, still no reach out or refund from the manager. What a shady operation they're running here. I'll be filing a claim with the Better Business Bureau too. read more

Here for an annual optician appointment, glasses no contacts. TL;DR: pros: did not have long wait, professional doctor and friendly assistant; high-end frame selections. Cons: terrible parking; impersonal conveyor belt service, graceless signage in lieu of personal communication; sketchy services, deceptive sales. Had to circle lot several times to find spot; others had made creative spots in the back. Walked in and was greeted by signs and terminals to check in myself. Went upstairs to follow more signs to empty waiting area. No receptionists there either. Ultimately still arrived a few minutes early. Obnoxiously, the 'turn cell phones off' signs are more clearly marked than the multiple, multiple, homemade signs with all-caps, red, bold, italic, underlined, and highlighter-marked text to go here, sit here, wait here, queue here, pay here. The building is dated, cluttered, and unprofessional inside, and papered with homemade signs instead of helpful staff. In fact, the staff you do see will not interact unless you (wait in line to) initiate, and then you might just get pointed to a different line or have a sign's text regurgitated back at you. No welcomes, no smiles. The waiting room had no magazines, but did feature a large television--that only played advertisements. Gratefully, an assistant called me back quickly, which was the first actual person who spoke to me. I inquired about the potential wait, and referenced these Yelp reviews. She seemed startled and indicated she had noooo idea they are so poorly reviewed (ha). As my exam began, she conspicuously wiped off chin bar of eye equipment with alcohol swab as I sat, saying they normally do it after a patient but that she likes to do it just prior to new patient. My previous opticians have had disposable tissues on that area. We had to wait on the wet alcohol to dry. Room was disorganized with spare equipment stacked about and more signs (lol). Sketchy. Did not offer to do digital scan vs eye dilation drops. When I inquired, they convinced me that dilation was way better since I had only done digital for last several years. After dilation, the assistant noted that other offices have instant reversal drops, but not this office. Gee thanks. In hindsight, the photo equipment was on the first floor, so maybe it was just inconvenient for them or was not their billable, or both. The actual optometrist, Dr. Kim, was efficient, thorough, and provided great detail into my exam, especially as it pertains to my medical history. That was really great. Would recommend him, for sure. They did provide a printed copy of my Rx, but I did ask for it at the beginning, so I am not sure they would if you didn't think to ask. The second star is purely for my interaction with the doctor. Otherwise this would be a one-star review. Back downstairs, follow more signs to go up, pay here, etc. found my way to frames sales, had to back up and deal with another self-check in terminal. Found a pair of beautiful frames I loved (Prada) within the first 3-4 I tried, which was awesome. Helped right away by a sales gal, who helpfully provided the measurement numbers and info that I need to order more frames online (e.g., pupillary distance, seg height). However, when it came time to pay, it turns out she had automatically added a $180 premium Crizal coating, and $35 edge polishing to my lenses without mention, discussion, or option! With insurance, and after ditching the coating and unnecessary edge polish (but still with glare reduction), my glasses were almost $800, which is 50% off the total (transition bifocals, high-index lenses, premium frames). Absolutely gobsmacked they would tack on $200 of extras without even a mention. The sales person didn't even pretend to appear guilty or apologetic. Additionally, I specifically asked if there was an insurance policy automatically added on as well, but in hindsight I never really got a straight answer and my receipt is not itemized. Finally, they will not book multiple family members on the same day, which is frustrating and inconvenient. Yikes, yikes, yikes. My appointment was at 140pn. At 240, I was called back for the exam. This was my first visit and I scheduled the Dr that the staff recommended. He told me I didn't need to see him but could do an exam with an optometrist. Okay that's good. But I'm still concerned with how long my appt took. I left the office at 445 pm. Most of that time was spent waiting in the wait room and/or the exam room. The staff was surly and not accommodating with one exception. I may give an staff optometrist a try a year from now because I really wanted to like this place. But I'm not spending half a day getting a routine eye exam. What could they improve? MINUS ZERO stars for today's visit 4/1/2026!! 48 days ago (ie: Feb 10th) I had a full examination (ie: pictures, refraction, dilation and exam with Dr. Kaufmann). The plan was for me to decide if a vitrectomy was the proper choice for my vision concerns. Per Dr. Kaufmann the Feb 10th complete eye exam would be sufficient to schedule the vitrectomy within 90 days, if that was my decision. I decided the vitrectomy may be the best choice to improve my vision "but" wanted to discuss a few things with Dr. Kaufmann directly before scheduling the surgery. I booked and paid for today's appointment with the intention of adressing my concerns/questions with Dr. Kaufmann in person. The staff refused to let me speak to Dr. Kaufmann directly for today's appointment unless I agreed to another complete eye examination!! They took my phone number and said he would call when he could. I find it extremely disturbing that Dr. Kaufmann would perform surgery within the 90 day complete eye exam period "HOWEVER" could not speak with me at today's appointment, which I paid for and was well within the 90 day, period just to answer a few questions. I am hoping that Dr. Kaufmann does not agree with the treatment I received by his staff today. b.t.w. The front desk advised me to text Dr. Kaufmann on the Patient Portal. The portal offers limited message options and no option to text Dr. Kaufmann. I am now left with waiting to see if I receive a call from Dr. Kaufmann. I have every confidence in Dr. Kaufmann's abilities but found some of the staff to be rude and unwilling to listen to reason! read more

My husband sees Dr. Sachles who has done a corneal transplant in both of his eyes. Yes, the wait is interminable and the staff don't have the best attitude, but Dr. Sachles more than makes up for it. We've been to both the Sandy Springs and Alpharetta offices, and you have to wait forever at both. Just go prepared to wait. read more

Review of Thomas Eye Group Thomas Eye Group is, without question, the worst service provider I've ever dealt with--doctor, dentist, pest control, fast food, you name it. I've been going there for nearly 20 years, and the customer service has always been consistently awful. They manage patients like cattle and treat them no better. The culture is one where you're made to feel it's a privilege just to be seen. That attitude runs through their staff: condescending, inattentive, dismissive, uncaring, rude, and lazy. In two decades, I have not had a single positive interaction with their staff--not once. It's a shame, because I respect the two providers I've seen, Dr. Sackel and Buddy Russell. But the toxic, incompetent staff environment overshadows their care. Thomas Eye Group is simply too big, too impersonal, and too broken. I will never recommend them. I was a little suspicious when I saw how (in my opinion) overstaffed the practice was. Having been in business and in education, I felt that there were way too many people on the payroll!! The amount of time for the appointment had been well communicated: 1.5-2 hrs. although there were 15-20 minutes baked into the various tests. I saw several different people (technicians) and only saw Dr. Wallace for about 15 minutes. I felt good about the brief report on the health of my eyes. Dr. Wallace asked me if I wanted a copy of my prescription for glasses, which I declined in the exam room; I did ask her about inquiring further about contacts - at which point she brought me out to the counter and yet another person ushered me to yet another waiting room for "Contact lenses". After several minutes, I was seen by a person who "assumed the sale". I had to ask her what exactly was happening; what was the plan was for the day. In NO WAY did I feel like it should have been another "exam", per se. Her listening skills were not great. She fitted me for a contact (even though my eyes were totally dilated - so what is the point?!?!?). As soon as I mention "contact lenses" they upsold the whole day. Upon checking out, I asked for my GLASSES prescription and then was told by the receptionist/cashier (who did not have great confidence about her message) had to pay an addition $60 b/c the glasses prescription was not printed out IN the exam room when Dr. Wallace asked me - claiming the refracting portion needed to be paid for (what does that have to do with asking for a prescription?!). So, if I'd asked the doctor for it, I would have avoided the $60? Plus the $75 fee for seeing a contact lense person I didn't ask for PLUS my copay. BAD communication and they have a revenue generating formula going on that does not have the patient in mind. If anyone considers going here, I would ask up front what EXACTLY will be done and how much the patient should expect to pay. read more

I cannot believe I keep coming back here. Every time I come, it takes forever to be seen by a doctor. And the place is packed. First you just wait for maybe 30 or 45 minutes then they bring you back go through a whole bunch of things and dilate your pupils and then you'll wait another hour to an hour and a half. And no this is not to wait for dilation, which only takes about 15-20 minutes. And it's not just the waiting. every time I go there, there's an issue with the insurance. Every single time they will submit to my medical insurance instead of my vision insurance, the claim gets denied and then they try to collect money from me and then I call and tell them "use my vision insurance" and they say they don't have it on file even though I gave it to them when setting the appointment, or while there. In 10 years this has happened at least 4 times. There is nothing convenient or easy about this place. read more

Went to Thomas Eye Group when I noticed my vision blurring in my left eye. Found out that there was a vein bleed in my retina. Thomas Eye Group sent me to their Retina Specialist, Dr. McClusky, at Sandy Springs. She was professional and performed the injections in my eye. The staff were very good at explaining the preparations and doing the preliminary testing. My eye has greatly improved and we still have a little ways to go to be at 100 percent vision returned. I recommend going to Thomas Eye Group for your eye health. read more

On Monday 1/6/24 my spouse and I went for ur annual eye exam at Thomas Eye Group on Barfield Rd in Sandy Springs GA. Our appt time was 9 am and we were not seen for over 2 hours sitting in the waiting room and at times standings as there were not enough seats however that is not the reason for this complaint. We have been a patient at TEG for over 10 years-- close to 15 years now actually--- and the wait is usually 3+++ hours which is also unacceptable especially when we book 7am or 8 am or 9 am appts to avoid having such a delay. After our separate eye exams, we left the office and about 30 minutes later I noticed my spouses eye was beginning to look bruised and swollen and within an hour it was black and blue. After spending over an hour on the phone with TEG they said they would have someone call us back when they were available. That call came in at 5pm and we were told to come in on Tuesday. We show up Tuesday morning and are told that the doctor is in surgery all day and would contact us when he had a chance,. The doctor did call us at 6pm and told us to come in at 2pm on Wednesday, which we did. The front desk spent over an hour arguing a nd worrying about our medical insurance, which we do have very good medical insurance-- probably the best out there! and the actual Dr is very aware of the amazing insurance. They would NOT allow us to see the doctor unless we agreed to pay over $500 cash first or provided them with out insurance. The entire reason we were there was because of an injury sustained at the TEG office. I then contacted the TEG customer service line and spent over an hour on the tele with them and they told me that was my only option. This is absurd and beyond unethical for any medical provider to do to a patient. They then told me to go to urgent care if I wanted to pay a cheaper price to see a doctor. This is after speaking with the doctor that treated him on Monday. Then I received a call from Latoya Norwood ands Ayisha at TEG and they told me the same thing and basically tough luck and the the practice Manager Sonia Phillip was in meetings all day and could not be bothered to speak to a patient in crisis/. So finally after sitting in the waiting rom for 2 hours today we left. This is unacceptable We are in the process of filing a complaint with the GCMB as well as with the Sec of State GA. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. My mom was scheduled for surgery today. Unfortunately, we were given 3 different times to arrive between 9:45-11. We have called all morning trying to confirm the time before driving in rush hour. Messages were left all 3 contact numbers were called and NO RESPONSE! We arrived at 9:30 to a full lobby and no wait at the Check in. We were told that our appointment is at 11am. Would you like to go get breakfast and come back!? The worst customer service ever. The person who said it was like a factory operation is correct. I had an eye exam since I needed to choose a surgeon for cataract surgery. i noticed right away there was no personalized service. They referred me to yet another doctor in their group another location. it is a huge corporate chain. They billed me $400 more than they were supposed to (since I had paid when I was there) and before I could even make a call to straighten it out I received a collection letter. Needless to say I wasted my time and money and moved on to a smaller practice where I had an exam, everything including options was explained thoroughly, where I actually met and spoke to the surgeon, and where customer service was great. The doctor then comes in and out so fast (less than 5 minutes) that you don't even know what happened . Such a bad experience from start - nearly 2 hour wait until I was seen by the doctor for each and every appointment, doctor was dismissive and rude at every visit and extremely agitated during the surgery process when things weren't going his way, to the surgery center making error after error! I would give this business a minus if I could. Went for a routine eye exam and was advised I have cataracts (Not causing me any problems) and was referred to another doctor is the practice. Was told I would need to see the other doctor before they would give a prescription for new glasses. The new doctor advised I could have a surgery on my eye, but it might entail a second surgery if the first was not satisfactory. (I am now up to 4 potential surgeries instead of a glasses prescription). Upon checkout, I asked where was the prescription and was advised neither doctor wrote a prescription for glasses. This is a cattle prod operation that steers (pardon the pun) clients to expensive and unnecessary surgery. The exams seem to be about identifiying possibilities for the practice profit, not the benefit of the patient. I would advise people to run, not walk, away from this business. The quality of customer care has diminished, and while all businesses have been impacted by the pandemic and the economy , using that as the "crying game" is getting old. Primary complaint and observation is the priority for Thomas Eye Groupis making money at the expense of patients who are "herded" like cattle to appointments which have obvioybeen "overbooked" to meet the bottom line. Update: I was finally contacted to make an appointment shortly after posting this review. I made an appointment for two weeks out. The office cancelled and rescheduled my appointment WITHOUT NOTIFYING ME. Now I have to wait another week to be seen. Oh, and here's the kicker, none of the corrections that needed to be made to my name were actually done. ---- I waited almost two months to get a set of trial contact lenses. Both my name and number were incorrect in their system. Seriously, the entirety of my name was messed up. Both issues were not correctable via the patient portal. I tried to send a message through the patient portal on 7/20 to get into contact with the office. I also left a detailed voice message on 7/31. After not hearing back, I called again on 8/3 and finally got a hold of a person. This person was also not able to correct these issues. They were, however, able to confirm that there was one attempt to contact the incorrect number on 7/13 but no follow up to either of the attempts I made to contact them. Honestly, for such a large eye group, you would think that they have their ducks in a row. Do not recommmend. read more

Great staff, great service. Unfortunately our bill of $316 was sent to collections within 60 days of being seen. We received a 2nd bill and literally 5 days later were sent the collections notice. Of course we paid! We are just a bit disorganized and most medical providers are understanding. This place was very busy, with a great location and luxe decor -- I doubt our $316 made a lick of difference to them but it made a great deal of difference to us at the time since I'd recently lost my job.
