I found…read moresome positive entires on Kudzu referring to Dr. Tucker and I have been pleased with him and his office for about two years now. The Doctor himself is very competent, but the best part is he surrounds himself with equally competent staff with little staff turnover (unlike my previous Ophthalmologist, where I would find entirely new staff every six months or less...). All of the doctor's direct assistants are very personable and helpful, with a special notice to the woman who schedules surgery and the like. Also, the woman who "checks you out" is a doll as well. A particular shout out to the two opticians who sit on the north side of the lobby. Mike and Trent are very helpful and willing to adjust your frames and work with you in every way possible to make sure you can see well... This office is very, very busy and it can come across as like you are being lost in the process sometimes, but they eventually find you. The only negatives I can mention is the face they are "Obsessed with Health Insurance (and cards)" and the women who man the front desk are sort of bereft of charm. but this is still one of the better Ophthalmologist offices in the general area.

I seriously would not hesitate to have him perform LASIK on any member of my family. We first went to a family practice that dilated her eyes without first using numbing drops, which caused a traumatic burning experience. We then went to a doctor who insisted my daughter needed surgery. We finally came across Dr. Gurbal and were so relieved by her gentleness, and most importantly, her naturalistic approach to strengthening the eye muscles of children. My daughter was extremely terrified to see another doctor, but Dr. Gurbal was able to soothe her and provide a wonderful experience for her! She gave us several daily exercises to perform and as a result, my daughter's eye muscles are clearly stronger! She can now follow objects with both eyes, and her eyes do not wander as they did before! Dr. Gurbal is a true gem in the Optometry world! We have recommended her to all of our friends and we most certainly recommend her to you too!

Dr. Alan Kozarsky was assigned by the FAA to conduct a paper-based review of my ophthalmologic…read moremedical history as part of my application for a third-class airman medical certificate. We never met. His task was to evaluate the records submitted by my board-certified treating physicians -- all of whom have personally examined me and affirmed that I am stable, non-progressive, and functionally safe to fly. Some background: I'm a rated pilot with some mild loss of peripheral vision that never affected me in any portion of my accumen as a pilot, let alone any facet of my day-to-day living. To his credit, Dr. Kozarsky, in his evaluation of my medical file, acknowledged "mitigation factors (of any risk) could include": * Developmental adaptation to the defect (which I've done). * Saccadic eye movement (which I engage in, like everyone else). * Rapid and efficient neurological processing (which I've demonstrated). * Extensive flight experience (which I have). Despite listing these facts, he still recommended denial of my medical certificate. What's troubling is that his rationale included the statement: "I ... feel." That kind of subjectivity has no place in a federal medical determination that impacts someone's career. FAA policy -- and basic medical ethics -- require decisions to be grounded in science, not impressions. Georgia Composite Medical Board Rule 360-3-.02 (Unprofessional Conduct) includes: §14: Failing to use appropriate diagnostic methods. §18: Conduct below minimal professional standards. §19: Providing false or misleading expert statements. I'm not here to attack Dr. Kozarsky. But this review stands as a warning -- and a call for reflection. FAA consultants hold extraordinary influence over people's lives. That power must be used with care, humility, and adherence to evidence. His comment, "Can any pilot fly safely with what is essentially a missing quadrant of binocular vision?" disregards all context. Let's see -- 200 hours of flight time, 500 safe takeoffs and landings, passing my checkride on the first attempt, and instructors urging me to get back in the air... I'd say that answers itself. (And just to clarify, I'm missing two quadrants -- not one.) While his other online reviews may be glowing, that doesn't excuse what happened here. If his decision was influenced by broader FAA retaliation due to my protected grievances, that would only deepen the concern. There's "no such things as halfway crooks," as the saying goes -- and there's no such thing as halfway accountability in medicine. Dr. Kozarsky, I invite your response.

We went to airport to find him and there is no office, or at least no signs anywhere. This is horrible service and we did not get our examine. The patient decided she'd spent enough time waiting and she left. The waiting room had what appeared to be six other people waiting to be seen. They all looked like they'd been sitting there for a long time. At 10:40, the receptionist called me to the desk and said I couldn't go back to see the doctor until I paid $120, which she said was my co-pay. "Is the doctor able to see me now," I asked. "No," she said. "There are two people ahead of you so you should be seen by 11:30 at the latest." Totally unacceptable. I left. Everything about that place screamed UNPROFESSIONAL!
