I was then moved to a waiting area where I sat for 20 minutes. I was then moved to an exam room where I waited another 20 minutes or so. All the while I was expecting to have my eyes dilated. The opthamologist finally came in alone (they usually arrive with a technician who enters data for the doctor). I put my chin on the rest and the dr. started looking in my eyes. At a point he sat back back and asked if I had declined dilation. I said no and that no one had mentioned a choice nor had anyone said anything one way or another about dilation. He excused himself and about 15 seconds later a technician arrived to dilate my eyes for a proper exam. 10 minutes later they both returned and the exam commenced. 10 minutes later it was all over and I received my new glasses prescription. I finally walked out of a 9:40 appointment a little after 12 noon. This is not the first time I've had an experience like this. About 3 years ago I was forced to wait about 4 hours before ever being seen. I've only stayed with them because they identified a detached retina and the doctor at the time called colleagues at a the premier hospital for eye surgery and got me set up with repair surgery a few hours later. He has since left the practice. After this experience it's time for me to do the same.

Where to start? TLDR: Worst experience EVER. Save…read moreyourself a huge headache!! This was absolutely the worst experience I have ever had with any doctors office. Ever. I'm 61 years old and have been to plenty of doctors in my lifetime. I had an appt in Sept 2026 for a glasses exam and contact lens exam. I have never been a patient at Takle Eye Group personally. My daughter, who is currently 39 years old was a patient of Dr Takle Sr. prior to turning 18. I have been wearing multifocal contact lens for over 15 years, prescribed by another provider. I wanted to get closer to home so I thought I'd make the change. When I first walked in for my appt, the receptionist (who was rude from the start) immediately said that I had a $50 credit on my account. My normal insurance copay for glasses/contact lens exam is $70, so she tells me that I owe $20. I asked, "how could I possibly have a $50 credit since I've never been a patient?" She replied, "well, I don't know!" So mentally my question becomes, "if I've had a $50 credit on my account for over 21 years, why have you not sent me a check yet?" but decided to forego that question. After about 45 minutes of waiting, I'm finally called back for my exam. Not once during the entire exam did they ever mention dilating my eyes. During this time, the "nurse" puts a piece of paper in front of me to sign that says basically, that a trial pair of lens will be provided, and that after wearing them for a week, I'll have to come back in for a re-exam. Then, and only then will they release my contact lens prescription. So I question the nurse about this, telling her that I've worn contacts for over 15 years and am confused on why they wouldn't just release my prescription electronically if, after wearing the contacts for a couple of days, determined that they were the correct strength. She told me to speak to the Dr about it. After the initial exam, Dr Shekoury comes in quickly and does her part. Again, no mention of dilating my eyes. She spends about 5 minutes with me. I ask her about releasing the prescription if I have determined the strength is correct after wearing for a few days. Her answer? "it's a legal thing". I've been to plenty of eye doctors and have never had one refuse to release my prescription without a follow up visit. Dr Shekoury does ask the nurse to check to see if they have a trial pair of the new strength of prescription in stock - same exact brand and fit, just .25 stronger than the old prescription. The nurse confirms that they do not have them and will have to order. Dr Shekoury says that they should be here in a week, then I came come in for a fitting. Again, I question this because it's not like I am a new lens wearer. She said that's their policy. I leave the office. Fast forward 10 days and I have heard nothing from them about whether my trial pair has arrived so I call their office. I'm immediately transferred to the voicemail for the optical department. I leave a voicemail. I have since left 4 other voicemails AND sent an email and have gotten NOTHING back. No return phone call, no return email. Nothing. At this point, I've researched and have confirmed that 1.) Legally they are REQUIRED to give me my glasses prescription on the date of the exam. They did not; 2.) Legally, they can require that I come back for a fitting to confirm that lens fit and that I can see. At that point, they are required to release the contact lens prescription. I am now filing a complaint with the FTC, the US Dept of Health and Human Services and my vision insurance carrier. This office should get paid zero, other than the $20 that I paid upfront. I aim to make sure of that. I will save myself the hassle and headache of dealing with them ever again and have made another appointment with another eye doctor. Even if that means that I have to pay out of pocket. I hope to save just one person the hassle of dealing with this office!
