The variety they planted is Albion, they are huge, pithy inside and despite the farm staff saying they are sweet it is not accurate. They are not juicy or sweet and do not fully ripen on the inside. We picked only fully red fruit and tired to pick all sizes, most were HUGE. Picking the fruits was pretty easy but you did have to spend time looking, plants were not "loaded" with ripe fruit. We pick strawberries for eating fresh and freezing for winter use on cereals. We do not use them for jam, desserts or other dishes where sweetener is added. They may work really well for those purposes. The farm is located in a lovely setting and grows a variety of produce, also available at their stand at the Lane Co Farmers Mkt in Eugene. We can't speak for the other produce. the 3-star score is only for the strawberries. We are veteran u-pick folks in the Eugene area. In our long years of experience this strawberry is underwhelming even if it is organic. Other local farms may not be certified organic, you can always ask the farmer about their practices. We have learned that some use IPM and use organic fertilizer or herbicides very sparingly. The varieties are smaller and much tastier.

You head to the main area to pick up the buckets and get a parking paper and they give you directions to drive to the trees. When you get there, just park on the side of the road and start picking! Theres tons of different apple varieties! Once you're finished, you take your pickings back to the main area for weight and payment.

The cherries were so fresh, sweet & juicy.......this from "sampling a few" which is also part of the fun of u-pick........that and pit-spittin' contests! The orchard is a laid back place with plenty of other varieties of fruit to pick and/or sample. Or simply just to purchase pre-picked. Different fruits have different "peak" seasons for harvesting so do some research and then go and enjoy nature's bounty.

We set out for our long drive to go blueberry picking this morning and actually meant to go to…read moreDetering orchards farm originally, but these places are on the same road, along with many other farms and there were blueberry signs that kept going so we did too. We ended up at the end of lots of farmland to this booth with a kind lady who helped strap us up with our buckets and we got to picking with our whole crew! It was a great trip and we got so many blueberries to freeze and save. They also had homemade soaps, blueberry butter, fresh muffins, and other goodies for sale at the booth. We were there a couple hours picking 3 buckets. I think the cost was about $40 ish total with the amount we picked. It's priced per pound. Lots of area to park & friendly owners & their children playing. So fun and special. The blueberries taste great. Oh! And not to mention they have these wonderful harnesses to clip your bucket to you so you can pick with both hands and not have to carry the bucket- came in SO handy. Plus then we had free hands to wrangle our young children running around the fields haha

I discovered LWF at the Eugene Farmers Market this past winter. Their Dakota Black popcorn caught…read moremy eye....I'm a popcorn fanatic! I bought a bag and also some very grainy and lovely colored polenta. I took my goodies home and anxiously made some popcorn. I stopped using canola oil because I learned it is not meant for high heat cooking. I only had olive oil and used it instead. I had no idea what was wrong w/ my popcorn until after a few failed attempts to make it and failed. I had used up almost all my kernels. I emailed LWF and was told olive oil doesn't get hot enough and so the oil wouldn't work w/ the popcorn. I visited the Eugene Farmers Market again this past Jan. and decided to get some more polenta and popcorn. The owner was so kind to remember my email and problem...she gave me a free bag of popcorn and suggested I try coconut oil. My popcorn pops perfectly and the taste is amazing. beautiful white puffs of corn w/ a lovely black shell. The polenta is very nice too. I found I have to use less water than the recipe calls for but it cooks very nicely! BIG FAN OF LONESOME WHISTLE!

We came in today to make a payment on some meat processing that a friend had initiated…read more When I walked in I heard a voice welcoming me in, but before I could even think, I was hit by the aroma of delicious brisket being smoked in the back. This is more than a processing/butcher shop, you can shop here for various cuts of meat, seasonings and even just pick up a hot lunch with beef, macaroni salad and potato salad. The staff are very friendly and communicative. I started asking about how they process and smoke their beef because I'm a home smoker as well and I'm always open to new ways of seasoning and smoking cuts of meat. Next thing you know, one of the proprietors is leading me to the back where there is this monster sized double door smoker. The doors pop open and there were at least 8 huge briskets in large pans, some covered, some not. They were in various stages of smoking and were covered with a seasoning blend that he created. He was in the process of pulling this meat for hot lunches. The steam and aroma were definitely intoxicating. He cut off a small piece for me to taste and it just melted in my mouth. .....not what I was expecting from a meat processor! Well that sealed the deal for me and I ended up coming home with a nice sized brisket, a jar of seasoning mix and some skirt steak. ....I only came in to make a payment towards some processing that a friend had done. They also have a selection of various sausages, hotdogs, steaks, roasts, pork and even chicken. The huge slab of maple bacon was pretty tempting. Overall, we found the pricing very competitive and some better than the supermarkets, as well as the satisfaction of knowing that the meat is local and where it came from, and that the ground beef is from one cow, not a blend of a hundred cows. The staff are very friendly and willing to discuss their products and services. Such a nicer way to buy meat, much like the old butcher shops of days gone by.

I stopped here last week to get some tenderloin for a beef wellington I was making for Christmas. I…read morehadn't been to a butcher before so I didn't know what to expect. There were a couple of other people there getting meat as well and the employees were all working hard to fill orders. I was greeted immediately upon entering. The guy who helped us was friendly and helpful. He seemed like he could be new and he was asking questions from an older guy who was happy to help. They cut the tenderloin for us and gave us the trimmings upon request. I overheard another employee helping a customer figure out how much meat to get. He was feeding a big family with teenagers and the employee was asking a bunch of questions to make sure she gave the best recommendation possible. That interaction made me feel like I made the right choice in butcher. The meat we got was very high quality. It was fresh and tender and the dinner I made with it was amazing! It was very expensive but it was absolutely worth the price. This is a treat that I would get once a year and no more. The shop itself was about what you'd expect in a butcher shop. The employee area was a good size and the customer area was small and narrow. It smelled surprisingly good and I left wishing I had gotten some of the smoked meats I was smelling. The parking lot is small but easy to get in and out of. There isn't a public bathroom (that I could tell) but you'll only be there for a few minutes so you should be fine. I would definitely come back here the next time I need some high quality meat. The people are friendly and knowledgeable and the selection is expansive. Definitely give these folks a try!

They were friendly and willing to answer my many questions about the flour they use and what the differences between them were. It's off the beaten path but most good things are! It was worth the visit! It's a small store with some seating but we took ours to go.
