I have used This Efficient House for 2 projects. Most recently for drill and fill cellulose insulation of my walls (applied from the interior, which is a challenging application). The results were great with a noticeable increase in comfort, reduced drafts, and less cycling of the furnace. The house is also quieter. I also used Mike and his team about 10 years ago for attic insulation, air sealing, and some other areas of targeted insulation work. They also installed a high efficiency Goodman furnace, which has performed incredibly well with zero issues over the last decade. We had Mike replace a 40-year-old attic fan with a high tech new modern one. While here, he suggested that we could optimize our energy efficiency and comfort by adding to, and leveling the attic insulation, and sealing some drafts in the attic. He also changed our furnace air filter figuration to dramatically increase our cooling output. All this has made our house way more comfortable. read more

Once I talked to Mike, the owner, I knew I wanted to use his company for all our insulation needs in this older 1971 house we are remodeling. I had called several other insulation companies all claiming their leading qualities but Mike's level of expertise and his ability to communicate it won me over. We had his company remove the old insulation in our attic and replace it with cellulose; we also had our walls insulated from the inside; and last we insulated between the main and lower levels to help reduce the sound once we put hardwood floors down. All phases of the project were completed with utmost professionalism and efficiency. Matt and Carlos, the workers, were fantastic and a pleasure to have around. Updated review: Mr Tuitt did eventually contact me to apologize for the issues that occurred. After I told him about the additional expense I had incurred to finish the work, he promptly repaid me in cash for the problems I had. This is a must read. In March 2015 my wife took steps to improve the energy efficiency of our home. This Efficient House was recommended by a Larimer County Home Energy report. She contracted with them to install a crawl space insulation; foundation walls, vapor and radon barriers, and moisture control along with an electric fan system to pull the moisture from beneath the plastic barrier covering the direct floor in the crawl space. She was told the fan was working properly and the job was finished. Being over 60 years old she was not inclined to crawl into the narrow crawl space to check his work. She trusted that the job was finished. In April of 2017, I had to do some other work in the crawl space and noticed the dirt floor was extremely moist. It was then that we checked the work performed by This Efficient House. The fan to remove the moisture was never assembled, the electrical elements found within the fan housing were exposed and never hooked up. Then we checked the electrical line they ran to the area where the fan would be plugged in. The electrical line was never connected to a source. It was just secured to the floor joists and never hooked up. As a result, the crawl space floor is water-saturated under the plastic barrier they put down. We took pictured of all of the incomplete work. On Saturday, April 8th, 2017 I reached out to Mike Truitt, the owner of This Efficient House. The phone number listed on their website takes you to a message system which states the voice mail box is full so you cannot leave a message. I then emailed him through the address provided on the web site explaining the purpose of the message, attached the pictures of the incomplete work, and that his message center was full. Mr Tuitt responded the following day, Sunday April 9 stating, "I will call you early this week to resolve." No call has come as of April 20th. I have since tried to reach him through the phone number listed on his web site, but unable to leave a message. I also emailed him again on Monday April 17 and have had no response. I drove to the address on his website and no one was there. His place of business is a home in a residential area. Since these occurrences I have had to hire another electrician to finish his work Interestingly, this electrician stated he has been owed monies for over 2 years. I guess Mr. Truitt has not been paying his subcontractors either. read more

The entire job was fraught with incompetence and unprofessional behavior. What was supposed to be a three-day job to add insulation and seal the crawl space turned into a seven-month headache. They made big mistakes with the work, for example, forgetting to air seal an entire wall plate in the attic and failing to insulate all the rim joist bays. Luckily, I caught the errors and had them fix the problems. Their work was pretty shoddy. For example, the crawl space insulated door they built fell apart in under two weeks. Further, they created a huge mess in the crawl space, and just covered it all up with a vapor barrier. My job took nine separate visits, and they were never on time. Nine visits, late every time. And, I'm not even counting the four appointments in which they blew me off entirely with no phone call. My work qualified for two rebates, one with the town and one with my utility. This Efficient House messed up BOTH forms, which could have cost me $265. Fortunately, the town was understanding enough to allow them to re-submit, and the company ended up paying the utility rebate since it was their fault for messing up the form. If you have a modest home and a modest budget, do not hire this company. Every excuse for them being late or not calling me back revolved around them being busier on bigger jobs. I heard time and time again that they were wrapping up work at the local university or needed to take care of another "big client." We were obviously a low priority for them, especially all the appointments to fix their mistakes and clean up their mess. In sum: They made big mistakes with the work, they created a huge mess in the crawl space, they were never on time, they blew me off entirely on four appointments, they messed up the town's rebate form, they messed up the utility company's rebate form, they lied to me on several occasions, and they treated me with disrespect. read more
