At the Office down the street is better. Better food and better management. My band used to play there but the band manager fucked-up and double booked a day we were playing and he blamed us EVEN though our gig was on HIS facebook page and he claimed he didn't know how it got there. How can you be the band manger and not know what is on your own page? He got mad because I called the bar to see who put our event on his page that he claimed he didn't know of. Went for bingo with a friend and had a surprisingly good time even though only 6 of us were playing! (Made even more friends!) Have never been here, but the patrons looked like regulars and they were all very cordial and welcoming! Had a $5 Tito drink special- perfect! Ordered the large appetizer sampler and fell in love with their chicken tenders; Honey mustard dip was a great accompaniment. Decent place but the kitchen needs some serious help. We ordered fried pickles that came out in a basket with a bunch of grease on the bottom that they were just soaking in and dripping. The last visit my friend ordered chicken tenders that were fried to the point that they were dark brown in color and looked inedible. You look around the bar and notice people - I've managed bars and this is a training issue for management- we left for another bar. Will I come back ? Just tried to come here with some family of mine for a few drinks on a Friday night and was very rudely met by the bouncer. He refused to let me and my family in as some of us were from out of town from Iowa and not allowed in because we provided the man with our REAL IDs. Mind you I'm 32 and showed multiple forms of verification. The bouncer proceeded to call me and my family smart asses after we proved we were right. If you like dive bars, motor cycles, beer and loud music well then this is your place. Crowded with a tough looking crowd. Same old fried bar food and plenty of people showing off their tattoos. I know I've made this sound deleterious just because it's not my scene. On the positive the place seemed fairly clean, waitress seemed hard working and there was really no trouble that I witnessed. We were charged $4.51 for using our credit card on a $69.00 bill. No warning, no signs. I didnt realize until after my card was run. When i asked, the owner said he was passing through a Cook County credit card charge. When I said he was making that up, he became very defensive and called me an a**hole. He said he had a sign up but it was taken down during remodeling. I was there with my wife and 3 kids and he continued to berate me as I walked out. service was amazing as it has been when i've been there in the past. i was extremely taken back when i witnessed the manager scream at a younger girl on the slots calling her names and belittling her. if you have the audacity to call somebody a "white f****** n*****", especially in a time like this, you don't deserve a management position. she continued to say something about her family. i was uncomfortable and left shortly after the altercation. the owner's should reconsider who they trust with management to represent their business. read more

yesterday my wife and i stopped in at thirsty beaver because we knew a trio of musicians we like were going to be performing there. this band known as the sole city juke band played like the true professionals that they are. this 3 piece band sounded like there were 6 guys in the band and they blew the roof off the place. they were over the top excellent. my wife and i love the food there and to us there are a lot of nice and friendly people who frequent the bar and i do not get all the 1 and 2 stars given by reviewers. our server lexi was one of the best servers we ever had. with her, our glasses were never empty and her personality was second to none. we are looking forward to going back to thirsty beaver really soon. read more

I had a blast last night at the Thirsty Beaver. There was a live band, I think they were called "The Hooplas"! They were a little to loud but the sound and the energy was awesome. I ended up staying to watch the band two 45 min sets . The waitresses all started wearing Hoopla shirts and kept the beer flowing. Fist time visiting this bar since it changed from Old Town to the Thirsty Beaver. Wow, I am impressed! First of all the owner did an amazing job with the remodel. He added a garage door to the front which when opened, allows an extra 10-12ft in space and is a mini patio. Reminds me of bars in Florida. Also, there is an actual patio which is quite large and really nice. It's big enough to host bands outside. The interior walls are covered with beautiful wood and decorated with antique gas cans and such to keep with the garage theme. There is quite a large stage to host all the live entertainment they book. Motorcycle friendly, there is designated parking for your Harley in front between the flags. There was a car parked there last night who probably didn't realize the intent of the flags or they were Honda owners. (Ha, just kidding!) If you're hungry there is a nice bar menu with apps, burgers and such. The BEST part about this bar is the owner and staff. I called early in the week and the nicest bar tenderJessica, answered the phone. I needed to reserve a table because I'm disabled and cannot sit at high tops. Not only did she make sure I had this table But called me a few times to make sure she reserved enough chairs for my guests too. The owner approached me that night and he was so nice. I congratulated him in his success and let him know that my late husband, a biker, would have loved this place. At the end of the evening my guests left as they were on motorcycles and I hung around for a little while. When I did leave I got to my car and put my walker in the back and got in my car. The owner ran over to me and have me his card and gave me a pep talk about making it through my struggles and told me to call him if I ever want to talk or grab coffee. I can tell her he was sincere and genuine. (Plus he asked if I was 33 or 34. Ha ha! I'm 51 and proud of it!) I am so glad I visited the Thirsty Beaver And I am looking forward to many more visits. read more
