If you're doing anything with a train (commute, train crawl, just waiting) this is a good soot to grab a drink. Naturally, it's not the best for quiet - it's ON the tracks - but it's part of the station so you know you won't miss your ride! That's just what some friends and I did, grabbed a drink after hopping off the train. It's nit much to look at, being a pretty utilitarian "bar", but it gets the job done and the prices are nothing crazy. Oh, and the staff is friendly as well! If you are taking the Metra to or from the Geneva station, then the Third Street Station is for you. This establishment is right there, so it is a super convenient spot for an adult beverage if you have a limited amount of time. This was our situation this past Saturday afternoon, as we were on our way to a dinner engagement in an adjacent suburb. The place seemed packed when we arrived, but we were able to snag a table right away. Our server came along quickly, and we did not wait long at all for our beverages to arrive. My lovely wife enjoyed her mixed drink, and I did like my Penrose on tap (a local Geneva beer!). read more

Ugh. Went here recently during the weekday while waiting for the train to come. The angry pro-gun sign decor was not welcoming. I was not a fan of the guys spread out around the bar loudly talking to each other and to the bartender about how great Trump is. I ordered the quesadilla plate which was promptly served but didn't taste great, probably microwaved. A guy sitting a few chairs down from me was snorting really loudly and trying to get my attention. I ignored him, paid, got up with my bags, went into the bathroom, and right when I locked the door, someone started banging on the door really loudly and was trying to open the door for a good two minutes. The whole experience was unsettling. I did not feel welcome here and have no desire to return. read more

What I've always disliked about 3rd street in Geneva is there is no good inexpensive bar to just grab a drink and "bar food." Most places or very expansive with no specials or happy hour. Third Street Station is excellent. The price of drinks were very inexpensive ($5 vodka soda, $5 Tall) and a great selection of food that is very delicious (give the nachos a shot). This is an excellent place to grab a drink, food, and hangout on the patio. YES....the train comes through a few times......get over it. Great atmosphere with great food and great staff and.....great prices. I would definitely visit this place next time you are out. It's a nice break from most of the pricey places on 3rd. read more

If you enjoy being ignored and mistreated this is the place for you! A horrible unhappy woman tending the bar was highly offended by my friend asking what drinks we could take on the train. All she had to do was sell us two beers and we would have been on our way in minutes. The bartender provide short, rude, and unhelpful answers and then told us she didn't have time for us and refused to help us. The place was not packed and we arrived with 15 minutes to catch our train. Awkward way to end a nice day visiting Geneva. I'd say skip this place it's not worth it. read more

Twice I've been to this bar on a Sunday afternoon and been subjected to terrible service. The bartender was rude, not just to me, but to everyone. Last Sunday at 4:00, instead of pouring drinks she was on her phone and some of the comments I heard her making to customers wanting service were inexcusable. I'll never go back. I'm giving this place an extra star because the bartender who came on duty later seemed to be nice. read more

The doors are back open after a six month renovation attempt of the defunct Cabooses Bar & Grill. What was possibly the 'last" blue collar bar in Geneva is now attempting an upscale approach to enjoy a cocktail or two. Time will tell if adding a dozen or so 4-top tables and a menu top heavy with an assortment of "Flat Breads" can actually lure the Geneva culture away from Antique Shops. Not gonna happen...this is a booze bar. Metra commuters love the convenience while local beer drinkers enjoy the camaraderie. The Irony here is that the new owners lost six months of revenue tying to fix something that was never broken! read more

Finally went here after they re-opened. Let me say that I loved the Caboose Bar and Grill as it was one of the only blue collar bars in Geneva for a beer and a shot. That said I was very disappointed. Upon entering the place was pretty much empty. My son and I took a table near a TV to watch a baseball game. The only bartender was also doubling as a waitress. After about 5 minutes she yelled across the bar.. "Do you want anything?" When I said we would like a menu she said to look on the table. After about another 10 minutes she hobbled to our table (she has obviously been in some type of accident and was having a hard time walking). We ordered a burger, American Sub sandwich and 2 waters. The table was also dirty and we asked it to be wiped down. She said when she gets a minute she will clean it. After about another 15 minutes our waters were not yet delivered and the table was still not wiped down. The waitress delivered our food. When I asked her for our waters and if she could wipe down the able she literally said whatever. She then came back with waters and to clean the table. By this time we noticed that she brought us an Italian Sub instead of an American Sub. When we mentioned this to her she said.. "No! you did not order an American. You ordered an Italian Sub." Now seeing as how my son hates salami and Italian salad dressing I thought it odd that he would order an Italian Sub so I said to her are you sure? She again barked at us saying yes he did. When I asked if it could be exchanged for an American Sub she reluctantly said "I guess so." 10 minutes later she came back with the American Sub. At this time she did fess up and apologized saying that he did an American sub and that she is sorry for being so unpleasant and that her leg is bothering her. All this said the food was no better than what my 13 year old son could have made at home. The American Sub was a few slices of turkey, mayo and wilted lettuce on a stale bun. Burger was ok at best (the Caboose had the best burgers in Geneva). Nothing stood out as being remarkable outside the very rude waitress and awful food. My son and I both said after leaving maybe she should not have gone to work or at least have a 2nd bartender / waitstaff on duty. Unfortunately I will never go back unless it is for a beer when I get off the train. read more

Our hamburger tasted microwaved. (Literally, like a vending machine hamburger) and came with chips. I asked around and the woman next to us said her nachos were served with cold cheese. I was pleasantly surprised to see how nicely this space has been redesigned. The new bar top is very nice, bathrooms redone and quite nice, floors are beautiful and the added windows are great to have and let in a lot of sunshine. Modified menu for the time being but all the flatbreads I saw looked very tasty. The one negative I noticed was how high the noise level was with echoing which was a bit annoying. My husband and I were traveling on the Metra from Geneva to Chicago and we wanted to grab a drink and a quick bite to eat before boarding the train-we asked if it could be ready within 1/2 hour as we were catching the 1:30 train. We told the waitress that we were short on time and she said no problem it doesn't take long to get a sub sandwich. My husband and I sat down at the bar-the only other patrons in the place were 2 of the bartender's friends and 3 young men at the end of the bar who seemed to be friends with this waitress also. Needless to say they had her undivided attention, not us who were paying patrons, unlike her friends who seemed to be receiving free drinks and food for free! She came over to take our drink orders and I ordered a coke and my husband ordered a Bud Light. The waitress brought me my coke and returned to talk to her friends and play on her cell phone-we were patiently waiting for my husbands drink when she decided to go over and mess with the TV for about 5 minutes, still no beer. Finally since our time was getting short my husband looked at her and said how bout that Bud Light-she turned and sneered at him and said-PLEASE-I spoke up and said we had ordered it 10 minutes earlier and she then started to have a real bad attitude with us-My husband got up and said we are leaving-I am not paying to eat and drink at an establishment that treats their paying customers like that-and you would of thought she would of been apologetic or trying her best to make it better but instead she started mocking us and said-do you think I care if you leave-wow what a waitress-my advice for the company is to get rid of this waitress because she is a drain on your business-we were there on Friday Aug 30th around 1:00 in the afternoon-so you should be able to figure out who she is -she is ripping you off and making paying customers flee this establishment-cant rate the food because we didn't get that far-WOW I can't believe people actually retain their jobs after acting like this-Bad on you owners and management-I bet next time I go to the Geneva train station this place will be out of business!
