Third Man Records - Greetings... - Vinyl Records Near Me - Nashville, Tennessee

This is a record store / gift store / studio owned by Jack White of the White Stripes and others. They offer tours of the studio, but they don't let you take your phone or camera with you during the studio tour. So I don't have any photos of the studio and offices, which is a bummer because there are so many neat things to see. I definitely recommend doing the tour, though! Our tour guide was Ben Blackwell, who is an executive at Third Man, a musician, and oh, Jack White's cousin! He's a cool cat and told us lots of stories about the people who have recorded at Third Man, and the things that have gone down. If you have a chance to get Ben as your tour guide, you will be in for a treat. The tour itself was a little under an hour. The Third Man shop is where you CAN take photos, and it's a good thing because there are also lots of interesting things to see in the shop, like White Stripes paraphernalia, a record listening booth, a Wax-o-Matic machine where you can make your own red wax guitar figurine, an area to play guitars, almost every record you can imagine on the Third Man record label, Maggot Brain magazine (which is published by Third Man Records), clothing, posters and lots more. If you're a White Stripes, Raconteurs or Jack White fan, you definitely need to stop in. It's so neat to be in a studio where all kinds of musical magic happens! And even if you're not, you might become a fan just by visiting. read more

Excellent selection of vinyl records, books, stickers, pens & pins, guitar picks, clothes (shirts, jackets, and caps) some supplies for musicians & turn tables, etc. Store was clean and organized, there was at least one foot stool provided to help shorter customers see records on taller shelves. There were historical plaques and info about records and other items on walls. The staff was friendly. read more

This place is very cool. In the days of technology and digitization is nice to see places sticking to the good old days technology. There is something about film that can't be accomplished with digital. I said what I said. They process film and they also have studio space for rent, cool artifacts and clothing. They have in house film processing as well. The value is definitely more expensive. I bought the B&W Ilford HP5 Plus (35mm Roll Film, 36 Exposures) at $10.50 per roll, that's about $2-$3 more than the other stores in town. It was an emergency and they only open place on a Sunday so, bite the price. Lassy (sorry if missed spelled) was wonderful. Great customer service and she answered all the questions I had at the moment. I will definitely check them out and recommend just to come and check them out. A very cool place. read more

I was really exited to go to this place but the skinny male clerk with the glasses was just so rude and entitled. The female clerk that was next to him was so warm and welcoming so not sure if this is a good cop/bad customer service situation. But upon entering the store and saying hello and just getting a blank stare back and getting a, "would you like your receipt?," which is an odd thing to say after someone says, "thank you." It's bananas that the only place i absolutely felt not wanted or welcomed in Nashville, was the record store of one of my favorite musicians of all time :( read more

Let's start by saying I am not a Jack White fan, just not my music genre. My husband is and I wanted him to visit while we were there. The place is funky and great. I loved the listening booth and the ability to play some records, that was so nice as it has been a long time since we had played a real record! The merchandise is exactly what you would expect but there were other items that were very unique. We were able to get a Christmas gift while there. I loved the experience and am glad we went. Definitely a stop-in if you are in the area. It is small, you will not need a ton of a time, but a great place to visit especially if you are a fan. read more

I have been wanting to visit this place the last three times I went to Nashville, but I just finally went today. Had a great time - loved looking at all the memorabilia and interesting artifacts as well as the merchandise. My grandson had a great time in the soundproof booth where he could play with all the footpedals and the top-of-the-line electric guitars. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. They us showed us around and in all our questions in a super friendly manner. You really don't want to miss Third Man Records when you visit Nashville. In my opinion it's became an iconic, MUST SEE stop there. A lot of the records were valued at great prices and I enjoyed the fact that they had a listening room. The little monkey band was cool too. When I go back I'll visit again so I can record a 45 in the booth once it's repaired soon. Maybe I'll run into Jack one day :) ... "I can kick, I can stretch, and I'm 50!" (Actually 62) Enjoyed it so much though - fun stop for any age. read more

Really cool record store! Came here to take a look around, have lots of records and little rooms to listen to various records. Turns out it's a recording studio as well, and there was a tour going on when there. I went online to look at tours which turns out to be $20/person, and I also found out they have events and concerts in their blue room bar! Super cool, will definitely want to check it out sometime. read more

A music lover's wet dream. This shop is filled with literally all things Jack White; White Stripes, Raconteurs, solo albums and other Third Man produced bands. There's a listening booth where you can preview new music and recording booth to make your own, or just hear how awful your voice sounds to other people. This place is a bit touristy as it filled with all sorts of souvenirs, like stickers, magnets, shirts and even a White Stripes LEGO set. They do have a decent record collection, so I'm sure you'll find a few things to add to your vinyl pile. Just a heads up, this isn't the best part of Downtown, so mind your stuff. There is a recording studio on-site and even a live music venue. I wasn't able to check it out this time around, but I'm sure I'll be back with a few friends. read more

It was cool. It was funky. Fun opportunity to take photos. There's a listening room & a booth where you can record. Different artists have recorded in the booth including Neil Young. It is small. My husband is 6'1 and he wouldn't be able to stand up in it. But it's vintage and cool. There's also several unique - limited edition albums on the walls. My husband is more of a Jack White fan than I am. So I'm glad he had fun checking it out. We walked out there. It took a bit from the Gulch area. But not a bad walk. Didn't take long for an Uber when we were done. read more

I will never speak badly of a store that is dedicated to both quality music and the dying vinyl format. I'm a record lover with my own sizeable collection, so it was so satisfying to walk into a place dedicated to vinyl and music and the communal love of both. This isn't a big store. There are plenty of customers and foot traffic, probably because it is known as the place owned by Jack White. I spent most of my time perusing the selection, which included everything from some great independent rock to bluegrass and authentic country. There's even an area in back with some instruments you can fool around with. The staff were friendly and offered help several times. On the downside, this is all new vinyl. Not that that is bad, but I would have preferred a mix of classic albums to highlight both variety and provide more affordable options instead of the newer, pricier options. Apparently Jack White occasionally pulls up and performs in the warehouse next door. All the more reason to pop in yourself! read more

It's Matty C coming to you live with yet another 5-star Friday. Bear with me, Third Man Records holds a very special place in my heart. Jack White has essentially fronted the entire vinyl revival of the past decade. His bands White Stripes, Raconteurs, Dead Weather, and his existing solo project have deeply impacted my personal life. I've been wanting to visit Third Man Records when I began collecting vinyl in 2011. It's a hobby that I've invested countless hours into, as well as tons of cash, but that's neither here nor there. This past April, his Rolling Record Store stopped in Jacksonville (think food truck but for records) and since Nashville was on our list of cities to visit this year, you know I had to make a pitstop at the infamous shop. I could go on endlessly, but many reviews have covered the bases. In my opinion, the shop is an homage to those who love music, history, equipment, memorabilia, and of course, the art of listening to records. By far, the coolest aspect of Third Man is the listening booth, which is filled with rarities, B-sides, 7"s, and LP's waiting to be listened in its proper form. I could've stayed in there for hours. Rather I could've spent an entire day in the shop, listening, gazing, wandering and spending my life savings away. Quite possibility one of the quirkiest record shops I've ever stepped inside of, yet one of the greatest out there. They also house live shows and performances, as well as the record plant that presses vinyl and records artists across all genres. This is the end of my love letter, and I hope our paths cross again. read more

Make your way to Third Man Records if you're a rock 'n roll or Jack White fan! It's almost like a shrine to the musician that he made for himself. You can get knick knacks like wax guitar figures or even pins and chocolates. On the more of the expensive side, they also have unique records and a well-curated selection of music you can buy or play in their on-site music booth and record player. It's very fun to experiment with the sound booths and listen to tunes and bands that you haven't heard of before! Another experience you can try is recording your own voice on vinyl! It's more expensive and I wouldn't spend that much if you're not a singer. They have a music booth here that records directly to vinyl. I personally didn't choose to do so because I didn't want to spend money on something I wouldn't use. I don't sing professionally (aside from bad karaoke! and in the shower!). The store also has cool vintage items like old guitars and relics from Nashville's past that you can look at. It's like a time capsule, mini museum. However, the space is very small, and you can tour the shop in a matter of minutes. It's too bad that the store is a bit further out from the downtown area, so you once you're quickly done - there's nothing else to do in the area. There are only warehouses surrounding it. It's quite random and a little sketch! (A couple folks came up to me in the parking lot to ask random questions and eyed our car). Just park your car in their designated lot, which can fit no more than a handful of cars, and you'll be fine. We didn't buy anything, but it was fun to experience what it would be like to be Jack White for an hour! My favorite of all things, funny enough, is the building's exterior! I love the design and the sleek black brick and vintage font! You can't miss it. There's also a photo-worthy radio statue on top of the building. Photos abound! read more

It doesn't take a Jack White fan to realize this place is pretty cool. This is the world headquarters of Third Man Records, Jack White's record label. I should preface this review by saying I am not a Jack White fan nor am I a huge fan of his genres of music, though I do like a couple of his songs: "Seven Nation Army" (2003) and "Another Way to Die" (2008). I came here because one of my buddies, who is a big Jack White fan, wanted to come here. He ended up buying some merchandise to take back home to Brooklyn. Currently, there are two Third Man Records retail storefronts: this one in Nashville which opened in 2009 and one in Detroit which opened in 2015. This store is located in the SoBro (south of Broadway) neighborhood of downtown Nashville. There is no dedicated parking for customers, but there is plenty of free street parking on both 7th Ave S and Middleton St. We parked on Middleton. There were lots of spots available when we visited around 1:30pm on a Saturday. This isn't the nicest part of town, but we felt safe enough walking around the area in broad daylight. The building looks cool. It looks like an old studio or warehouse that has been painted black/dark gray with bright solid yellow, red, and blue garage doors. The storefront looks like an album cover itself. There's a lot going on at this location. It's a record store, "novelties lounge," offices and distribution center, photo studio, and live music venue. My friends and I only spent time in the record store and novelties lounge. It was packed when we arrived because a bunch of people had gathered to take a tour. According to Third Man Records' website, the store offers tours on Fridays and Saturdays at 2pm for $20 per person (first come, first served) with a limit of 10 tickets sold per tour. There were definitely more than 10 people taking the tour we saw and it started around 1:30pm instead of 2pm. The record store and novelties lounge aren't very big. It was quite crowded and snug with all the customers, but once the folks on the tour left, there was much more space for us to spread out and explore. Both the record store and the novelties lounge are eclectically and uniquely decorated. I'm not quite sure how to describe it other than to say it's a combination of retro and kitsch... perhaps? The novelties lounge is neat. It opened in 2012. It's called the "novelties lounge" because it has a bunch of working vintage machinery that you can actually use. They include a Scopitone 16mm film jukebox, a classic "fully automatic" photo booth where you can do "4 different poses" in only "2 minutes," a two-person listening booth with two turntables where you can preview records, and a really nifty 1947 Voice-O-Graph. For $20, you can use the Voice-O-Graph to record anything you want, up to about two minutes, on a 6-inch record. You can hear what customers have recorded using the Voice-O-Graph on Third Man Records' website here: https://thirdmanrecords.com/locations/nashville-storefront/record-booth. Another fun fact: Third Man Records is the only music venue in the world that records live performances directly to vinyl records. read more

We are so disappointed after years of being fans of the White Stripes and Jack White and looking forward to visiting this shop our entire trip. And upon entering we asked to use the restroom and were directed across the street, where we could possibly purchase something "artsy" at the art store and be able to use the restroom. Upon our return not a single "hi how can we help you????" Where my husband and family went on to purchase $300+ worth of merch. Not an ounce of help. I actually had to approach the counter of 4+ people who were standing around talking about high school and how Alec Baldwin's mom went to their high school to inquire about the price about something. After purchasing our $300 dollars worth of merchandise and they don't even ship. We then asked about the bar and what time it opens, but we're told where there is a show tonight ...and there is a "cover" like after spending $300, like we couldn't afford that shit??? All while the "manager" was doing the crossword behind the counter and I was shocked when he bothered to ask us if he could "construct this box for us?" For our records. Oh they also asked if they could roll our posters. I absolutely and very rudely let them know how disappointed we were. FYI we were at Grimey's yesterday and we purchased more records there that they were more than happy to mail for us for $9.00. Ultimately it was complete disappointment. My read more

If you like Jack White, this is the spot for you. I love Jack White, think he's anything & everything so I knew I had to come to Third Man Records. I love that he's eccentric, simple but complicated, keeps his life as private as he can, and I've heard he is kind to fans in person. Plus he does good things for his hometown of Detroit and current town Nashville. Just love the man. Now then! Third Man Records was founded in 2001 but this space opened in 2009 in Nashville. This location has a recoding studio, photo studio, distribution center and for us fans a record store & shop of items that we can pop in to peruse. I did just that while I was down there and perhaps not to my surprise, found Third Man in a slightly deserted part of Nashville. That being said, I easily walked there from hot & poppin' parts of the city. The store is adorable and packed with fun novelty items and some fun records. A bunch of the records are cheap and really a perfect souvenir of visiting the shop. My friend bought a Conan O'Brien album because #bestgingerever and I bought an album with Jack White & The Muppets (Disney/Jim Henson + my man, YES please). $3 each. That's amazing. I was incredibly tempted to buy an Icky Trump shirt but they didn't have my size. There were tons of cool items and though a small shop, I could have spent a fortune in there I'm sure. There were a bunch of old timey things that I loved looking over like a jukebox, wax machine, old photobooth, creepy but awesome moving metal figures, and other random items throughout. The staff working was nice and I heard them answering random questions from patrons and fans. I didn't catch my White Stripe live and in person but I have heard of others shopping around and him coming up to say howdy. Really for rock fans, it's a do~not~miss kind of shop while in Nashville! read more

Not sure exactly what I would call the place... little bit of music stuff and miscellaneous merch related to Jack White and the White Stripes, as well as other stuff from his label. I heard of a machine you could go into and play (guitar) and or sing and leave with a recording on vinyl, but I believe it was posted as 'out of order' when I was there. If you are at all into his music or can appreciate his creativity with guitar, and visiting Nashville I'd say make a stop. read more

I am in Nashville for business and just had to visit this spot. If you're a fan of Jack White, then this is the place you need to see. Many bands have recorded here (i.e. Weezer, Weird Al, Neil Diamond), and you can actually record your own singing voice in that same booth and have it copied on your own record! There is another booth in the store where you can listen to many vinyls issued by Third Man. Unfortunately during our visit, most of the machines were out of order. Keep in mind that there is very limited parking, and is located in a part of town that can get sketchy at night. If you're in Nashville, definitely visit this place! read more

As a vinyl junkie record collector I just had to stop here on my trip to Nashville. We arrived early to get a ticket for the tour but there was a line already so we came back later and luckily they added on another tour. We loved the tour, our tour guide was friendly and loved her job. It was like walking through a non creepy version of "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory." And just like the Oompa Loompas everyone behind the scenes had uniforms to wear. And they all seemed like they enjoyed working there. For the record store there was a great selection of Third Man vinyl and merchandise from the white stripes days too. Any fan of vinyl should make a point to stop here. read more

Was very excited about coming here. It has the record store vibe as well as many trinkets and merchandise for Mr. White's bands and others. I was a little let down that the crew didn't engage in conversation with me past the yes or no answers. It wasn't too busy and maybe the guy in front of me took all their energy but I still enjoyed my time there. This store is very photogenic inside and out. The variety of records available was a bit narrow but still 'healthy' options. I would return again or buy online when in the market :) read more

A very cool, quirky, off-beat and trendy vinyl shop. I loved the White Stripes and I love everything Jack White does, which was the main reason I visited the store front. What he is doing for music and vinyl promotion is amazing. Check out his CBS Morning and Dan Rather interviews. I expected it to be an overpriced record store and was delightfully surprised that everything from the trinkets, t-shirts to the vinyl was reasonably marked. This is a great place for Third Man Records artist items and just a great place to put on your tour of Nashville list. The performing monkey machine is pretty cool along with the old recording booth. They also have live events at TMR. Also, if you ever get to see Jack White in concert--he is worth every cent! Eh. Very hipster with not a lot of selection. Cool vibe, but won't go back. Not for me.

A must-stop shop while visiting from out of town if you love (1) music, (2) vinyl, (2) Jack White/White Stripes/Raconteurs/Dead Weather, (3) enjoy the symbolism of the number 3 (placement intentional). We swung by right after they opened on a Sunday (10 am). To be candid, the area was a little sketchy as we drove up; lots of vagrant folks were meandering about nearby. Other reviewers didn't seem so kind to the area either, but we felt safe throughout. This place is definitely unique from any other record store I've been to so far. Going in, you understand the connection to Jack White & his music (big fan), but also the other artists on their recording label (same name - Third Man) that continue to grow in number and stature. All of the vinyl they sell is exclusively Third Man releases, heavy on JW/WS reissues. I was hoping to find any Vault or other TMR exclusives (like the recent Cubs/Pearl Jam 45), but no dice. I found the store to be more of a museum than a traditional brick/mortar record store - tons to look at, investigate, and marvel. I sincerely appreciate their effort(s) to make this a one-of-a-kind shopping experience. We checked out the listening room/booth, while also envious of the recording station too. Lots of TMR merch, collectibles, and apparel to choose from if so inclined. We made a few smaller music selections and bought a store sticker (drats!). If you are a music enthusiast and vinyl lover/collector, I'd recommend stopping by, regardless of your musical tastes or the type of collector or stage in your collection you find yourself. It's not too far from Grimey's, either, so that is a plus. It's a very original place and I look forward to TMR releases in the future! read more

Great venue to watch and listen to musicians. Will definitely put it in the mist so in Nashville every time list.

I come here every time i'm in Nashville. There's a lot to see in a tiny area and merch is totally different every time I go!

The people at TMR go above and beyond in customer service. I visited on 2/15/24 and Alex and Jenay were working and they were simply the best! I can't say enough about them. Since I'm not a recording artist and unfortunately have never gotten the opportunity to watch a live show at the Blue Room, this review is first and foremost for the little store attached to the facilities. It's Disneyland for Jack White fans, fans of his record label, or really music fans in general (though the former will get the most out of it). A small space crammed with merch for purchase, old school instruments and contraptions, and lots of records. I saw several people come in with their guitars to take advantage of the recording booth where you can get a record pressed on the spot. I didn't have a tune to record, but left with a couple of records to play at home and a photo strip from the very old school photo booth (it only works some of the time according to the staff). Speaking of the staff, they're all super sweet and friendly and willing to help you out with anything. It's a fun, quirky spot a bit off the beaten path in Nashville, and worth a visit if you're interested in checking out some tunes, music history, or kitschy paraphernalia. read more
