Yes waxing is painful, but this seemed like the goal was to get me in and out in 10 minutes or less. It seemed like there was no consideration for my comfort. On top of that, I left every waxing with bruises (which can happen if you're not hydrated) but also burns and raw skin patches that took a long time to heal fully. Any complaints I made, I was told to purchase something from their extensive line of pre and post care ointments and products, and that the wax was kept at a regulated temperatures. I just think customer care wasn't prioritized and it wasn't a great experience.

I love the vibe of this salon - super bright, trendy, and conveniently located in the Village Gate Plaza. My service was ~30 minutes long and I felt totally comfortable for the duration. Nitty Gritty goes out of their way to ensure their salon is an LGBTQ+ safe space - there's specific information on waxing if you're transitioning, an ask for pronouns at the time of registration, and a truly welcoming atmosphere for all. This alone will keep me coming back and supporting, but the fact that the service is so top notch is a nice added bonus. The reviews don't lie, Nitty Gritty is the best. I've only gone waxing twice before but I never had any pain when I used to go, but this time it just felt like a world of pain. I usually have a high pain tolerance so I don't know if it was the wax they use, if she just wasn't as experienced (she was a new worker) or if I was just having an off day or something. On top of that there were spot of hair that she either missed or didn't do. The lady was nice and sweet and very comfortable to be around. It also only costed me around $74 with tip and tax. Was it the worst, no. Will I come back, probably not. Would I recommend this place, maybe. I think it's a good place to get a moderately priced waxing. I'm glad that I gave it a second chance. I was promptly greeted, my coat was taken, and offered a beverage. I was then paired up with Kira to get my beard trimmed, and haircut edged up. Kira was courteous, professional, and engaged in just the right amount of conversation. When asked what I wanted done I gave the typical guy answer of "do what you think looks best". Unlike most stylists she didn't keep asking me if I was "good", she gave me her opinion and told me what would look best, then executed it perfectly. I appreciate not having to make that styling decision, and leaving it up to a professional. When she was done she suggested some beard care products that fit exactly what I had been looking for. I had been researching a few products but was unsure of what to buy, but Kira's guidance was spot on. Overall I am very happy and will definitely be returning to see Kira.
