Avoid this place unless you have the whole night to waste its the lousiest service the city

We ordered this for delivery but the service was terrible; they were rude on the phone and in person. We were at $29.90 and the delivery minimum was 30. We were willing to pay the .10 difference but they forced us to order something else. Also the quality of food wasn't great as well. The pad Thai was dry and not spicy at all even though we specified for medium spice. The summer rolls were stale and they also didn't deliver us any forks. Not impressed by the food or service. I ordered the pad thai to go after recommendations from the staff. Even though I read their version of pad thai with rice noodles is different, it was worth trying. After tasting the dish, I wasn't impressed at all. Although the dish looks appetizing, the flavors were not quite there. The sweet, sour, spice, and salt taste were subtle. It was a basic stir fry noodles with lots of shrimp and chicken. I don't think I will be getting that dish again. read more

I was walking towards Midtown Plaza and noticed the sign for this restaurant down the street. I couldn't tell how busy it was inside but I decided to try it. There were a few tables towards the back and they seated me in a booth. There's a menu with many items and cheap prices. I ordered the grilled chicken with vermicelli and spring rolls for $6.95. While waiting, the hostess asked me to move to a smaller table since I was solo and they want to give my table to a bigger party. I wasn't impressed to be seating near the window at a table for 2 with one chair facing the wall and the other facing the back of the restaurant. I chose the chair facing the restaurant. The food didn't take long to come out and there were 2 large fried spring rolls and lots of chicken. The chicken wasn't hot, just warm temperature and there wasn't many vegetables. But it was a lot of food and cheap so I can understand why this place was busy throughout the lunch hour. But it was probably one of the worse vermicelli bowls I've had )and it's difficult to go wrong with this) and the service poor, which isn't unexpected. The line up to pay snaked around tables and good thing it didn't take too long. If I'm in Saskatoon again, I won't be visiting this restaurant and try others in the area. read more

We discovered this place a few weeks ago having just returned to S'toon after an extended absence. We have been here every few days since. The food is excellent and inexpensive, daily specials for $5.95. Staff are friendly and don't stop moving, always looking after something. Highly recommend. Only issue is the state of the bathrooms, so pee before you go. read more

Sept 13- I waited an extra 1hr after my pick up time. Multiple Skip the Dishes orders left before I got my pick up order. I received multiple apologies but perhaps extra kitchen staff during busy supper rushes would be more appropriate. I ordered multiple dishes - will not do that again. If all you want is a noodle bowl or 1 or 2 dishes- possibly better luck. Food is delicious but waiting 1hr 40min was too much. read more

I ordered the 112 and specifically told the attendant not to make the dish spicy. When the delivery arrived, my meal (dish-112) was overly spicy and was not even edible. Kindly start paying attention to what customers request for while ordering their food. read more

If I could rate this place zero stars I would. I do not recommend eating here. Always get a hair in the food It's happened more than once. When you bring it up they laugh. They give people dirty tables. Also HORRIBLE service. Don't eat here save you time and money! read more

I only go here for the close location, good prices and good food. However I will not go if I am need fast, friendly, accurate service. It's seems they give 0 f#&@$ about any of that and make you feel like a jerk if you bring up the fact one person has no food yet and everyone is almost done eating. Once when I was paying they accused my of stealing because I didn't want to pay for an item that we didn't get. I have so many bad experiences with the service this would be a long review. They tend walk while you are trying to talk to them and they rush you taking your order then they never check up on your table once you have your food. However I'm summing it up; don't go here is you value good, friendly, fast, accurate service. Go there for the food and if you just let go of the idea of getting any decent service out of your head you will enjoy this place. read more

Upon walking in this place, it smelt really good! My friend had the coconut Thai curry and I had the special of the day, the stir fried pork with 2 Vietnamese rolls served on vermicelli noodles. The amount of food that you get for the price is amazing and the food tasted delicious. Don't expect much out of the presentation or the ambiance, but it's a good quaint little place if you're looking for some wholesome Thai food. read more

I was a bit disappointed by this place after reading some of the reviews here, and on Urbanspoon. I've had my fair share of vietnamese, and I was looking forward to the combination of low price and delicious food that is typical of these types of establishments. Prices were certainly low - 6.95 for a vermicelli bowl. The quality and service, however, is just not there. First of all, the service. The waitress must have been new, because she had no clue what was going on. After taking our order, she milled about cleaning tables, taking orders from other tables, grabbing take-out containers, instead of sending our order to the kitchen! The food took about 35 minutes, which although not outrageous, is longer than I want to wait for quick vietnamese dinner. The food quality was edible, but definitely lacking. Spring rolls were good and crispy, but the noodles were dry, gummy, and glued together. The BBQ pork was flavourful, but tough, basically felt like I was eating strips of leather. I also had bean sprouts when I specifically asked to not have any. The other dish we ordered was one of the sizzling plates with peanut sauce. The sauce could very well have come from those 99 cent packages you get at the store - the vegetables were fresh, but beyond this, nothing special. The decor was fine - your typical cheap vietnamese diner setup. They must have had the furnace way up though because it was boiling hot. I may return if I want something in a pinch, but will likely try and explore a little more widely before even thinking about coming back. read more

I ordered a few dishes for take out, first the delivery guy asked to have a tip of $5.00 or more then one of the dishes was uneatable. The dish was ginger beef it was the hardest thing I have ever bitten into you couldn't eat it. I took the dish back to either receive another dish or my money refunded and they refused. Twice now, over 6 months apart, they have completely forgotten my order when I was staying in to eat. The first time I kept asking about my meal when my family all got theirs. I was reassured repeatedly that it was coming but finally whwn it was time to pay the manager admitted that the kitchen had never got my order. I had witnessed about 50 Skip the Dishes orders depart in that timeframe. Seems they are more impt than face to face customers! The second time was just this week and I was there with work colleagues and they all ate and finished and my order never arrived. I missed lunch as I had to get back for a meeting and could not wait for a new order to be placed. Service has seriously gone downhill. I won't go back, yes its cheap low quality food but I will pay more to actually receive it! read more

The food here is so hit and miss. When it's good it's amazing! When it's not I feel totally bummed out. I guess having low prices makes up for the inconsistency. Delivery is thru skip the dishes which is awesome because you can track your food delivery. It's quite easy to order enough items to get free delivery, plus you'll have leftovers for lunch the next day. The cold rolls are great, the best in town and I've tried half a dozen other places. Deluxe wonton soup is always on my bill because it's so jam packed with meat, veg, and wonton. Anything made with their peanut sauce is delicious! I'd recommend only eating in when it's slow because the staff seems to get overwhelmed when it's busy. No refills, slow to pay, no attention. 4 stars for hit and miss quality and sub par in dining experiences. read more

I have eaten at a lot of Vietnamese restaurants in my life...wherever we roam.....we always scope out the nearest Vietnamese restaurants. Thiens is one of my favorites! Consistently great spring rolls, fresh rolls and bowls. Small place ... Nothing fancy but food and service is consistently great! read more

This restaurant has been our go to for Vietnamese for over ten years, we search when on vacation for good Vietnamese food ( NYC, LA etc) and are always happen to come home to Thien Vietnam in Saskatoon. We get #48 noodle bowl and #32 sate soup along with thier famous spring rolls. read more

It's not the best Vietnamese I've ever had, but the value is phenomenal. I definitely needed the fish sauce to fight some of the dryness, but it was quite tasty. I'd definitely come back again next time I'm in Saskatoon. read more

Like other people have said, the food can be really good or just meh. I ordered through skip the dishes and my food arrived spilled and no one at skip the dishes or Thien Vietnam would take responsibility. I am pretty unhappy with the service and I definitely won't be ordering take out from them again. read more

Poor service, terrible food, and a rude owner! Went there with some friends to try it out. We ordered Miso soup and chicken vermicelli noodle bowls. We were given spring rolls but our Miso soup never came. We ate a couple spring rolls assuming they were complimentary with our meal (as some Vietnamese places do this with noodle bowls). The service was terrible, we tried to flag down our waitress and she ignored us. So we ate the vermicelli without the soup. The food was poor, not warm when served. When we went to pay, we noticed that we were charged for the spring rolls. We asked why we were charged for something we didn't order and were ignored. We refused to pay until we had an explanation, instead the owner came out and yelled at us for not paying. We tried to talk to him about the service and our missing food. He was rude, refused to listen, and yelled profanities at us. Never going back there again. Avoid at all costs! read more

The food here is delicious. Just deluxe wonton is a meal. Throw in Vietnamese rolls and you have a big meal. The service is excellent in spite of being very busy. The lady at the front is a dynamo taking phone in orders, managing the register, and general organization. read more

Terrible! Ordered delivery, cause I could not get away for work. Ordered well before lunch. Waited over a half an hour. Nothing. Called, was told it would be half an hour. waited 45 minutes. Still nothing. Called again. Was told it would be at least another 30 minutes. Waited. Still nothing. Finally received my food OVER 2 HOURS LATER. I could not eat it, cause the noodles were too bloated, soggy and overcooked. When I called to complain, all I got was "sorry". Yeah, I am sorry I wasted my time and money. When asked to give a brief explanation of sate sauce - responded "I can't explain it. Just pick something." Hot food came out before cold rolls, and with no utensils. When asked for a box to pack up leftovers, was told to walk to the front counter to get my own. I have been told several times immediately after finishing a meal to "pay and go now - it's busy." This restaurant's priority is to-go orders through Skip The Dishes, and it clearly shows. Waited 45 minutes before I called back and was told that they were tired of being ripped off and to eat s.., This restaurant needs to be shut down. They screwed up but can't own up to their mistake. LEFT OVERS!!! Public Health regarding Food Safety 306 655 460 for an Inspection. UNSANITORY Daily $5.95 specials are ROTTEN MEAT & WEEKS OLD STALE REHEATED SPRING ROLLS!!! Cheap prices reflect the quality of food & poor service, don't be fooled by the new location's or renovation's. I've long since taken my business elsewhere. Yet recently on my way home, I seen a less advantaged person, I offered to buy him dinner, since he was near Thien Vietnam's I brought him inside thinking nothing more than to offer this stranger compassion and kindness, I paid for his order, as I waited I couldn't help but see the hostess & server's disappointment and overhear their despairing comments about this man being in the restaurant. I took out my phone to record, I thought I was mistaken when within two minutes, the hostess rushed over with his meal to-go saying loudly "he go outside" while motioning with her hand that he could not stay inside to eat. Gently I reminded the hostess & server that I was paying customer but they continued to protest attempting to show cause saying "no no he will scare my customer's". Momentarily, I stood aghast and shocked as the server's & hostess' seemingly had no regard for not only mine but also this man's integrity, I looked over & could see this man was at a breaking point, he was visibly embarrassed and blinked away the tears in his eyes. On his behalf, I further negotiated that I would sit with him while he ate his meal. Reluctantly they seated us in the back, when I seen his food I was disgusted as it appeared the kitchen had given this man what looked like discarded LEFT OVERS while the noodles, lettuce & bean sprouts appeared normal the Meat smelted ROTTEN & the Spring Rolls were Burnt Up!!!. When I approached the staff they pleaded ignorance saying the meat is always fresh, refused to replace his meal, would not make time saying they had other customer's to deal with. I regret giving this dive another chance, I didn't argue with their ignorance and I refused to subject this man to further insult so instead I brought him to subway for a combo. I've since called public health and will posting the video/pics of the food and service rendered by Thien Vietnam. Normally I don't take such a hard line but I've seen too many oversights from this restaurant, it is really to bad that more people do not report this place for Health HAZARD it is. read more

Oddly, this is one of the highest ranked restaurants in downtown Saskatoon if you believe the websites. It must be because of the low cost because the fare is just barely ok. It gets very busy at lunch time, and if one of the waitresses son is around, expect to see some glass shatter when he screams (not they care or do anything, and I have kids so my tolerance for kids screaming is pretty high). The pork egg roll appetizer is pretty good. I was torn between a 2 and 3 star rating here. Red Pepper next door was not as good, which is why I give Thien 3 stars. read more

All our dishes came out fresh and steaming hot, and we're quite delicious. A great mix of Chinese and Vietnamese flavors. Prices were great, service was very friendly. We ordered online from the Radisson hotel using skip the dish. We ordered for 11 And it came still nice and hot. It was delicious and very reasonably priced. Will definitely get this again and it was a fairly quick delivery as well. Love this little gem! They sent plates and cutlery. read more

Had a friend who said this was her fav restaurant in Saskatoon. She made me promise to wait until she could take me for my first visit when I moved here. Definitely worth the wait. I have been to Thien multiple times but this experience today has deterred me from ever going back. The curry shrimp and vegetables did not taste like the same dish I had multiple times before, it was clumpy and the shrimp tasted like mold I had to spit it out. The shrimps texture was not normal.
