If you like Greek food or Mediterranean food -- or just GOOD HEALTHY FOOD, then Theo's is the place for you. Best hummus. (I won't name the chain where we go sometimes for their salmon kabobs, but their hummus is not nearly as good as Theo's hummus!) It's creamy. It has a good flavor from the tahini paste. (I wish it had a few more olives on top, but that's just wishful thinking...). Their tzatziki sauce is great! We like good food and we try to eat healthy. We come here and avoid french fries or the like, but we do get their Greek salad and their grilled meat sandwiches (gyro or shwarma; personally I like the chicken shwarmas). COVID FEARS? We don't eat here. We place an order online, and if they say 20 minutes, it's so far been ready within 20 minutes every time. You walk in, and there is an area where the PICK UP orders are sitting waiting. Easy in, easy out. The only thing that could make this place better would be if they had grilled salmon, but until they do, we're coming back for the salad, the shwarmas, and the hummus :-) read more

I have been craving fried chicken and have heard great things about Theo's kitchen and their fried chicken offerings. My mom and I came around 2pm on a Monday for lunch. The restaurant was not too busy and we were helped right away. I went with the 3 piece fried chicken snack mix and my mom went with the lamb gyro. Our food came out quick and my chicken was piping hot! I was really excited to try the chicken but in my honest opinion it wasn't that great. My moms gyro was also mainly lamb and feta/tzatziki sauce with barely any vegetables to balance out the meal. Overall the food was okay but probably not something I would revisit. read more

I have tried this place a few times recently since I live nearby. My family has been raving about this place for years since they live across the street. After reading the reviews it sounded like I needed to try the fried chicken but I'm just not that into fried chicken so I've been ordering the chicken combo which is grilled chicken, hummus, and taboule. I really love Mediterranean food and have tried a number of different restaurants locally and abroad. The hummus they have here is one of my favorite. The chicken is also very good and is never dry or over cooked. I wish this was closer to work so I could have it more often. I love Greek foods so when this restaurant opened in my neighborhood I had to try it out. The place is clean, nice tables and chairs, although I don't see people sitting in them when I walk in. First thing I tried was the supreme Gyro and it was absolutely delicious. The lady that took my order was nice and I didn't have to wait long for my Gyro. It's pretty ok. The fried chicken has no flavor and the meat for the gyros is not as good as other places in town but this place is pretty ok. If you're in the neighborhood and love tzaziki the way I do, it's a better alternative to greasy garbage fast food. The greek salad, hummus and other tasty side items they have are really pretty standard healthy greek fare. Not as good as Mediterranean Blue or Mediterranean Deli, but it's still pretty good. Theo's Kitchen is back! I stopped in for dinner last night, not sure exactly when they reopened, but it's pretty recent. They are now in the Winn Dixie shopping center at Curry Ford and Crystal Lake. Right next to the Catfish joint! Dinner was great, I had the chicken swarma sandwich and my friend had the falafel. Both were loaded with tahini, and done very well. We also sampled the stuffed grape leaves, and while they were small they were also delish. Love the cucumber yogurt sauce! So happy this has reopened in my backyard! I'm having some conflict about this place. Theo's is a family operated Mediterranean restaurant located in a strip mall which is clearly on the up-and-up. You walk in and you immediately know that the owners have really built this place from the ground up, making do with what they've got. The decor is not fancy and their menu is on one of those old Coke boards that might be found at your local high school's football concession stand. Despite this, the restaurant is on the whole very clean and welcoming. I ordered the shwarma - one of my favorite dishes - and a side of their hummus, and what I got was right on the money in terms of authenticity. The gyro had fresh veggies and truly succulent chicken but was pretty greasy and was doused in tahini. I had a good time eating it, but definitely got over the liquid dripping out of the wrapper. The hummus was equally authentic and served with the traditional chunks of tomato and, interestingly, a pepper. It was very, very creamer and not at all salty. Could have used a bit more flavor in my opinion, but I get the feeling that this is a family recipe that hasn't been changed in a while. So, I'm at a crossroads about how I feel about this place. I mean, it wasn't amazing, but I think that for the money, the food you get is spot on. I think my $15 or so was very well spent here, and am glad that my money is going to supporting a local business and a local family. I would go again. read more

Gah! I hate to do this but our trip here was less than good. I would call this place "Greek Fast Food". Oddly enough you can get fried chicken here too besides Greek fare. We opted for the gyro with fries. They put a lot of tzaziki on the gryro with a sprinkling of shredded lettuce and tomato. I thought the taste of the tzaziki was fine but the quality of the lamb strip patties they use were the type I've seen at fast food greek joints. They come frozen in a box and are cooked to order. They put a decent amount on there but it's just not that great. My husband who has been to Greece many times was not impressed at all. I absolutely love this restaurant! The gyros are always good, hot, and made to order. It's a family owned restaurant, and most of the family works there and helps out! The ladies of the family are especially nice and helpful, and it's always clean when I go in. I live pretty close, so this is one of our favorite places for quick, delicious food. I like to get the gyro platter - a pita cut into quarters and served with a plate of meat, greek-salad mix (yes, mostly iceberg lettuce), and a heaping portion of tzatziki sauce and a side of fries. The gyros are great, too, but if you don't like so much tzatziki sauce, I'd ask for it on the side. Oh, and I love their baklava! SO good and flaky! In actually, it's a Greek restaurant that must have been tipped off to it's collard-green-sounding name and exterior, and offers fried chicken and a few southern fixings on the menu. The chicken is great. The greek is even better, offering all your traditional gyros, souvlkaki, and feta fare. The menu is is a little difficult to read. It reminded me of a menu you would find posted up on the wall at a bowling alley. However, the menu had many great Greek and some non Greek items. I ordered a small Greek salad and hummus and pita. The portion sizes here are very generous. I had extra salad and hummus left at the end of my meal. The salad was very good and very fresh. I loved the hummus also! The hummus comes with tomatoes and olives on top. The pita bread was warm and crunchy. My husband ordered the chicken dinner. He wasn't so impressed with the meal. The fries were typical fries, but they appeared to be a little over cooked. He also said the chicken tasted as if it sat out for too long. The location is in a fairly gloomy strip mall, but they make do with what they have. My Husband and I have drove pass this place waiting for it to be opened. We love Greek food. And to have one so close to home! They have moved to Curry Ford, close to Bumby, in the Winn-Dixie shopping center. There are no descriptions on the menu, you have to ask. We ordered the $7.99 Gyro platter (thinly sliced lamb and beef, one pita grilled, fries and a small Greek salad with a ton of that amazing tzatziki sauce). Awesome!! Loads of food for the price. Better then another place we frequent. One odd thing is they serve fried chicken! This is suppose to be Greek right? But I did read someone else review and they said one of the best places for fried chicken. I guess we'll have to try. I give this place 4 stars because the service could be much more friendlier! Everything is fresh, delicious, and enormous portions. I got the Gyro with feta and It was soooo good, but super filling. We finally made it out to here for lunch. There really isn't much to the restaurant. In terms of atmosphere there really isn't much to it. Nothing fancy and no frills. That goes for the service too. They are nice enough to ask questions but think of greasy spoon diners loaded down with southern style waitresses, then add an accent and voila! That is ok, but rare these days. They have the option to go for platters or al a carte. The food was good but the lamb was a little dry and the pita was small compared to the platter. Everything else seemed fresh. The prices were very reasonable though, which for that I can overlook aesthetics. Overall, good food at a great price, but do not come expecting fabulous service. read more

Great Greek dishes, great value, and a great family-owned restaurant. Theo's serves authentic Greek with a little bit of soul (fried chicken is an odd standout on an otherwise Mediterranean menu...it's good, but I recommend sticking with the classics). The Tzatziki here is top-notch (better than I've had in more upscale Greek restaurants), which greatly elevates the gyros. The spinach pie is fantastic and the baklava is killer (fresh, flaky, delicious...splurge and get two pieces). Yes, the atmosphere is austere (it's in an older Winn Dixie shopping center at the corner of Curry Ford and Crystal Lake). But I'll gladly take delicious homemade food over designer digs any day. Here's a tip: Theo's provides take out service. Call in your order ahead of time and grab it on the way home. read more
