My first job that took me down the path as a chef for a few years started at a hole in the wall…read morecalled Acme Bar & Grill in Mt. Pleasant SC, so I'm familiar with a low brow affair. On one hot Saturday afternoon I was looking to change things up a bit so google suggested Giddy Ups. I will confess driving up I was a bit apprehensive as it felt like a hole in the wall of a hole in the wall in the middle of nowhere. Upon arriving one will notice the parking lot is extremely worn with minimum upkeep while the facility wasn't that much fancier. Walking in you can feel the history and life. Everything is rustic and rudimentary as if the place was bought for pennies on the dollar. The outside has old fashioned 2x4 overhang with old plain wood columns, a huge red and obnoxious store front (but in a good way) and a tacked-on sheet metal shed. Inside, a half mannequin here, a thousand local artists in picture frames there all with dive bar tables and chairs make up the main area. Oh, there's a stage too if one can call what amounts to a step as a stage. The staff here are humble and nice. As for alcoholic beverages, if they got it, they're gonna make it for you. However, be warned the selection is limited, keeping in step with the bare bones mentality. Speaking of drinks, they're extremely affordable. I enjoyed my bourbon and diet coke just the same here as anywhere else while paying a fraction of what other places charge. In the side attachment or "shed" they have a number of games. One gripe I have is that they have the most disgusting bathrooms I've seen in years. No more elaboration needed. So what are my final thoughts? Giddy Ups is grass roots, simple but not for everyone. I like it and like the vibe but in my vast list of places to visit I just can't justify coming back especially if I'm looking to impress a date. It's not a bad place at all, just not my flavor.

Typical Austin "hole in the wall" neighborhood bar with character. While we were there, many of the…read morefolks were regulars and knew the bartender. There is also a stage for live music but we left early due to the weather. Our party did order pizza and brought dessert so you can take your own food. LOVE places like this!! Pro tip - wasn't a fan of mixed drinks so I would order bottles or cans next time.

There was a variety of games from 'old school' to newer games and there was plenty for every age. All of the games except one were working, which is better than most of these types of places. My grandson played the Willy Wonka 'coin' game and managed to get all nine character cards and a golden ticket card which is a big deal. The few who get this have their picture taken and placed in the machine - a 'wall of fame' so to speak. When we asked the staff to add his picture they said they were out of film. We offered to purchase some (Polaroid) and they initially declined saying they couldn't 'accept' it. After having a good discussion with the manager, they agreed that if we went to Walmart to get film, they would take the picture and post it, which all occurred. Not sure how they 'ran out of' film, but aside from that, all went well. Folks who aren't grandparents won't likely understand what grandparents will do for grandkids!

The blue cheese dressing was so liquidly it looked like ranch dressing. The mozzarella sticks and the sliders with cheese were not very flavorful. Also, my Guinness was flat, they also got rid of the Margarita pizza which is what I came for tonight. I wish I would've went somewhere else. I won't be coming back here for a while... hopefully to get their act together. This place is always a hit or a miss. My husband said, he liked his chicken sandwich and fries and his Yingling in a can was good.

We were able to score a table under the tent, not far from the fire pit so it was nice and cozy on a cool day at 50°. There is also a big screen TV nearby nestled above a stage. There was plenty of seating under the tent. Just outside of the tent was a little bar and more seating, there was another big fire pit outside of the tent as well. There's another bar in the main building and the crawfish boil ordering area is outside as well. It's set up really great with lots of seating outside and there's even seating inside where the bar is. The line to get the crawfish was not long we only had one person ahead of us. We did a build your own boil bag with 3 lb of crawfish, half pound of shrimp, half pound of crab legs, with 1 sausage, 2 potatoes, 2 corn & some little mushrooms. Paid just a little over $80 for that. The crawfish was good with really good flavor and spice, But most of them were still pretty small due to the season. The shrimp was good! The crab legs were not the best, a bit salty and fishy. I wouldn't order them again. Next time I would just order the crawfish and possibly shrimp. Seasoning really was good and just the right amount of spice! Anyhoo, This was our first Crawfish boil of the season, looking forward to many many more.

We all go through ups and downs so we wouldn't blame him over anything. We will still go back because we like the ambiance and the drinks...cheers!
