It's tucked into the lovely Mineral's & Mystics Store. Magical but not close to Edinborough Castle.

Thursday, 5.15.2025. Lunch, Afghan Kabob. Charlottesville, VA. I had just had a medical procedure…read moreat the University of Virginia Hospital that resulted in following a liquids-only diet for the past 36 hours. My husband and I close this restaurant to break my fast. We were greeted quickly by the hostess who led us to booth seating, and gave us menus. There was no need though, as we had already spotted the all-you-can-eat buffet. We requested only water to go with our meals; she quickly brought a carafe of chilled water and two glasses. This is a generous buffet with many selections for a complete meal, from soup and salad to dessert. There was a good variety of both meat and vegetarian options. Our FAVORITES included the fresh mixed chickpea salad (the chick peas, cucumbers, tomato, onion, parsley); lamb curry (which featured tender boneless and tender meat); rice pilau with raisins and carrots; borani badenjan (eggplant curry. Tip: drizzle yogurt on this);; bamia (okra) curry; firnee milk pudding (dessert); and the addictive dooth pati chai (spiced milk tea). There were also some items that we didn't enjoy as much but were still good. For instance, the chicken kofta meatballs, while nicely spiced, were very dry. And, the nan bread was disappointing. (There were also many additional good choices on the buffet that are not listed here). The ambiance in the restaurant is comfortable, with many paintings and decorations from Afghanistan. Some tables are in a side room, ideal for small groups or privacy. We noticed, but didn't visit, a downstairs shop with Afghan carpets and other goods. Plus, there's a shop on the side that sells groceries. Parking is plentiful and free. The lunch buffet was $17.99 each, plus VA sales tax (6.3%), city meals tax (5.3%), credit card service free (3.5%), and tip (variable). There are cheaper options available if you order from the menu. We would return when next in Charlottesville.

I stopped in on the later side as Charlottesville's restaurant scene has a lot of early closings. Seeking a vegetarian combo, I ended up with a salad and a mix of potatoes, okra, and chickpeas, which were clearly cooked earlier and served cafeteria style. The dishes are vaguely reminiscent of Indian stylings but are not spicy. Perhaps this is why this place oversalts food (I've seen this with other Afghan places as well); I hate having to drink so much water afterwards. An herbal tea was an interesting flavor, and I got a decent amount of food for the money. Given the limited options for vegetarian food on a Friday night, I was satisfied, but the food could have been better.

Came here with my wife, daughter, 2 grand daughters and a 'husband' for a little "comfort food"…read more The ambiance casual and comfortable I was a little surprised to see the comments about poor staffing because our waitress was Cam and she was terrific! This delightful young lady was absolutely the best, making us feel very welcomed. Along with prompt and courteous service she was very entertaining with her sense of humor. Really helped make the evening fun. We shared some wings, fried green tomatoes and calamari, all of which quickly disappeared. The entrees were salmon hash, shrimp and grits, fried chicken waffles and the Cajun pasta. All these dishes were very, very good. Hope we get a chance to visit with Cam again!

Wanted to try this restaurant up at NOVA but never connected. Down at Charlottesville for UVA…read morevisit and decided to try it. The restaurant reminds me of Burton's. The menu is not large. We got the fish sandwich, tail of two fish and wharf scramble. My fish sandwich looks substantial at first but there were more batter than fish. Every bite I am just eating the crunchy batter. The accompanying tartar sauce was delicious. Their no cost substitute is nice touch. I would say it was a decent experience but really not sure if I would go back given there are many restaurants with similar menu. Our waitress was working incredibly hard. She seems to be the only one waiter serving all the indoor tables. It was late afternoon but still. I've been to restaurants where there were 3 handling same amount of tables and not getting services.

The sides were amazing though, I must give them that. I had the Mac and Cheese, The green beans and one of the cooks let me try the greens that I happened to miss on the menu and they were all a 10/10!!! I mean they were AMAZING!! The sausage was good (a lil dry) and the brisket...baby I asked for fatty brisket (and I always have to tell ppl I mean the part you'd probably not eat lol, don't judge me) and I swear they gave me the driest leanest slices they could find lol. Now I love the variety of sauces that was dope although me being a Tx girlie "if I need sauce, that means it ain't smoked right or is lacking something" but that's just me. If you're not from the south (which my date ain't) you'd love this place!!! As for my southerners you'd enjoy the sides and the sweet tea. Oh and I tried my date's shredded chicken (another odd choice) and it tasted like baked bbq chicken...oh and the cornbread was dry as hell!! Tasty but like eating a biscuit from Popeyes But anyways the service was great!!! The sides were amazing but the actual bbq left a lot to be desired...again if you're not from the south I can see yall loving this spot.
