They advertised wood fired pizza. I didn't smell any wood smoke. The crust was thick and chewy, obviously not cooked at a high temperature, which was also clear from the long wait. A wood-fired pizza will be done in 90 seconds to two minutes. The cheese was unlike anything I have seen on a pizza; it was very thick and gooey. Disgusting! The only positive note: the vegetables were very fresh. I ate a couple of slices because I was very hungry, and threw the rest in the trash. Eigfhteen-plus dollars wasted. In Meredith you can get a decent pizza (no, not wood-fired, just decent quality) at the Mobil Station across from the town docks for less than ten dollars. read more

One of the Jewels of Meredith in my opinion. Yes you pay a bit more but the meats and prepared foods here are uniquely fresh and of a very high quality. There are multiple versions of marinated steak tips which are great to grill. And the same applies to the marinated chicken breasts- about as big as I've ever seen. They also have prepared foods which just need to be reheated. The pizza is one of the better in the area using higher quality fresh ingredients but it's usually under-cooked and unnecessarily doughy and much too expensive. The wine is limited but generally very good- usually wines you won't find in the NH Wine stores. I've had good to excellent service here every time, so haven't experienced the same issues as a few others. Bottom line is if you're looking for higher quality meats and prepared foods and don't mind paying more, this is a great find. read more

However; when you are inside an establishment and want to order a pizza at 5:30 and they tell you, yeah sorry we can't take anymore orders because we are backed up, well its time to call it a day. So reward the people who called in their orders and punish the people who were here to shop on Friday June 18th at 5:30 pm. Ownership you should take a good look at this review and discuss how this is allowed to happen, instead of your social media employee flagging it. Came in with my boyfriend to grab some steaks for dinner. Was a little disappointed with not a huge selection. Steaks were also already pre cut. We got the largest filet they had (maybe 8oz?) and a ribeye that was a nice size with good marbling. The 2 steaks were like $50ish which I thought was a little expensive but they are the only butcher shop in Meredith so ok. Came home. Butter basted them in a cast iron skillet with some fresh herbs. The filet was great. The was also good. No left overs. Over all good steaks but I wish they'd cut fresh and have some dry aged options. read more

We occasionally stop for the meat lovers pizza. This pizza won a Best pizza in Meredith contest a couple of years ago. Normally, we'd give them higher ratings, because their meat is fresh (although very pricey). However, after a Sunday hike we phoned in a pizza order for curbside pickup around 1:00. The order taker was kind and courteous. We were asked to call again upon arrival and they'd bring it out to the picnic table. We tried! 4 phone calls spaced out 15 minutes, and no one answered any of our calls. There were only 3 cars out front. Hubby had to go in, wait in a slow short line, just to ask for our pizza. LOVE The Wine'ing Butcher. We're actually spoiled because we live near their sister shop in Virginia. We go there regularly both to eat lunch there or to pick up marinated meat to cook on the grill at home. Then we come up to Lake Winnipesaukee for summer vacation and get to stop at this Wine'ing Butcher to pick up more goodies to grill. I was particularly excited this summer that they had the maple bourbon steak tips. Oh my they are SO good! We've been missing that flavor down at the Virginia location. We actually spent Christmas up here at the lake last year, and we ordered our Christmas dinner from Wine'ing Butcher. It was EXCELLENT. This location appears to have a much bigger bear selection and a much smaller wine selection than Virginia. At first I was a little excited to check out the beer, but then as I browsed the shelves it was all IPA, IPA, IPA, IPA, IPA, IPA and a couple of sours. That seemed to be a common theme in NH this summer. I'm not a fan of either IPA or sour, but hey, I came here for the marinated steak tips not the beer, right? Oh, we also love the key west chicken, the house steak tips, and the fire steak tips, too. read more

But this past summer we tried the ribeyes 3 times and each time the steaks were tough and lacking in flavor. I wonder if the are using a different supplier. I stop at the Wine'ing butcher every Friday on my way home. Whether i pick up steaks, marinated tips or seafood the food I cook up from here is always superb. Recently I have been favoring the seafood such as the salmon, shrimp kabobs and scallops. The prices are high but the seafood is very fresh so much better than any of the area grocery stores. For a memorable steak and great advice on cooking methods visit the meat counter. Top chef quality butcher shop! In the deli are I am so please they carry Boars Head meats and a nice variety of specialty cheeses, but the Tomato Bruchetta is my favorite! I use this savory concoction on everything, even my omelets. Delicious! If I am lucky I catch a wine tasting. The steak tips are good; but that's it. Its always a crap shoot as to what they may or may not actually have in the store. Many excuses but little service. Even when meat (at a butcher shop mind you) is ordered well in advance there is a less than 50% chance that what you ordered will actually be available as promised. Plenty of excuses - broken blades, meat grinder issues. Ordered ground beef and ground pork a week ago, went to pick it up. Nope. Another lame excuse. And it is not just this time and it is not just once or twice, and it is not because it is "off season". It is routine with both Meredith and Gilford stores and it is no way to run a business. read more

Horrible!!.. Been burned twice making the mistake of buying meat here. Outrageously expensive ribeyes that were dry and tough. Tried again hoping it was a one time disappointment. Bought an 11 lb rib roast. Nearly fell over when they charged me nearly $250!!!!! I reluctantly paid for it since it was already cut and wrapped and they assured me it would be fantastic....It was fantastically poor. Came on yelp.com to review the hotel I stayed awhile back for a reunion, and forgot I could review other businesses as well!! Stayed at the Birch Knoll Motel (see my review!) and took a quick trip up the road to The Wine'ing Butcher. An employee at the motel recommended we try it. (there is a Gilford store as well, but we were headed to Meredith anyway...). This locally owned store is SO wonderful!! Employees were friendly and food/drink was excellent We got the burgundy beef tips, and some lemon pepper chicken breasts. They also had mac salad, pasta salad etc. We picked up a great, but inexpensive bottle of red wine and had a perfect dinner back at the motel (used their grills). I wish we had a little place like this back in PA! read more
