If you're staying on the grounds of the Chautauqua Institution, dining options are limited. That…read moreusually means restaurants have a captive audience - and if I were an owner, I'd be doing everything possible to deliver a consistently great experience. Unfortunately, this place doesn't quite get there. It's a wine bar, which may explain why they don't take reservations. With limited seating, you're left hoping for an open table. We arrived around 5:30 PM to get a table for three and were the only ones waiting. A party of five came in after us and was seated immediately. We ended up waiting another 15 minutes while they reconfigured tables for our smaller group. Why that happened is unclear. The food was fine, but nothing memorable. The wine selection looked solid, though I ended up sticking with water (yes, at a wine bar). Overall, the experience was pretty meh. We waited without explanation, and the food didn't make up for it. Will we go back? Probably not by choice--but if friends suggest it, we wouldn't rule it out.

Bartenders and servers were very friendly and efficient. The prices are high for the experience, but it's right on the Chautauqua grounds, so it's not surprising. We'll definitely return when we visit next year.

The Empty Bottle is STBC's distillery and, to be honest, I think was more fun to go to compared to their bar/restaurant, The Empty Pint! Some family and I were visiting Jamestown for a weekend and after we had a few drinks and some food at The Empty Pint, we stumbled over to The Empty Bottle to sample some of their harder spirits and maybe some cocktails. Plus, we needed to escape the incredibly loud live music playing at The Empty Pint... Right from the start, it's a more intimate setting and was much more relaxed. We grabbed a table inside with no trouble at all and ordered a flight of their "Draught Cocktails". The ladies working behind the bar were incredibly fun, friendly, and enthusiastic and really brightened up our night! We enjoyed all of these drinks but we really loved one called "Transfusion", which was their vodka, Welch's Grape Juice, lime juice, simple syrup, and ginger ale. We all wanted to buy a few bottles of this, if they made it, it was absolutely delicious! The price for the flight was very reasonable too and they gave you a nice pour for each. If you want food though, you'll need to take a short walk over to The Empty Pint, though I'd recommend just grabbing some appetizers, do a bigger meal elsewhere. My advice to anyone visiting Southern Tier Brewing Company would be to first come to The Empty Bottle and enjoy cocktails and the harder spirits then round out the evening, once it gets a little later, with a Pumking (while it's on draft) at The Empty Pint, up the road a few steps. I'm really looking forward to coming back to The Empty Bottle the next time I'm in the area!

The bartender was super friendly and gave us some good tips on what to do locally. She also made us some "special shots" that we really loved. So much so that we ended up ordering a second round of them. She really knows how to pour a good drink. We also had the pleasure of meeting the owner of the place, who was a very lovely woman. She told us a little bit about the history of the place and was very welcoming towards us. Her father was "Jack" from whom they got the name of the place from. We did also order some appetizers while we were there. I ordered the pizza log which was really good. It's comparable to an egg roll but with pizza inside. Delicious! My boyfriend ordered some fries and enjoyed them as well. Good food, good drinks and good company. We had a great time here and will definitely be back.
