    Chocolate and peanut butter cheesecake

I really enjoyed my visit to the Willy Wicket tonight. We went with a couple of friends and all enjoyed our meals. The building it's self is a refurbished farm house, as a kid I remember driving past this as a derelict farm house think wow I want to live in there and about ten years ago this place was dressed up very nicely. The decor is what you'd expect of a recently renovated pub, it's warm and welcoming and has some 'interesting' art work. Again the menu is standard pub menu, with the usual classic of fish and chips, pie and chips and well, gammon and chips. They do other bits as well, such as salmon with crushed potatoes and lamb shank. I had the gammon and chips, this was really good and gets extra marks because it's served with egg AND pineapple, always a winning combo! This cost just under £8 and was really good value. I then naughtily looked at the dessert menu which is when the wedding diet ran off and left me, I had the chocolate and peanut butter cheesecake and oh my good this was epic!! In fact the whole table went quite whilst we ate our various desserts. Yummy!! The service was good, staff were friendly, welcoming and attentive. Although it was clear they were short staffed tonight as we did have to wait some time for our food, it was worth the wait though. I'll definitely be back.

I always seem to get really mixed service and quality at the vintage inn's. Sometimes the food is really good and sometimes it's average, this trip was definitely the latter. I took my folks there for lunch, we'd been before and expectations were pretty high as our last experience had been great. The place was empty so we had pick of seats and service was quick so couldn't complain about that, however they brought a colouring sheet for my son, but no crayons. We requested them at bar and were told they'd find us some but they didn't come back with them until after our food arrived about 20 minutes later! Then the food, I ordered the salt beef hash which was delicious, this came with fried eggs on top which were cooked to perfection, however my step mum ordered the same and the eggs were overdone. I ordered tomato pasta for my 1.5 year old son, he normally loves pasta but wouldn't even eat this as the pasta was underdone and it was dry with barely any sauce. The food came quickly which was good but overall the standard was disappointing

It's still as charming, still has the same locals, still the same landlord and, I think, still the same roaring log fire. The Cross Hands doesn't do food, but it does do lots of guest ciders, ales and a brilliant atmosphere. The landlord and landlady (Pete and Lesley) are great (Pete is the spitting image of Peter Stringfellow - with open shirt and hairy chest) and make you feel like part of the furniture - which can make leaving quite difficult at times! Friday nights are good fun. Typical local pub style. A bit of cheese on the jukebox and a good mix of young'ens and old'ens to keep it interesting from one end of the pub to the other. But the best thing about this pub isn't its huge back garden. It isn't the fact you can use one of their massive BBQ's and bring your own meat/food. It isn't even the regular events they hold in the summer with live bands and cider in boxes. The best thing about the Cross Hands is the pub dog. A beautiful Staffordshire Bull terrier who has the gentlest demeanour and wonderful personality. She'll pin her belly to the ground and wiggle her way over to say hello. All the while snorting like a little pig. She has her own arm chair and sits with the locals who play cards on the big round table from 4pm every day. This is a lovely little boozer that has a huge garden for the summer and wonderful warm log fire for the winter. As it is out of town, you can knock 40-80p off the price of pint. A must if you're in the area.

Stick a lepord print thong on him and marvel at the way he transform into Peter Stringfellow oh yeah ! All in all a class bozzer in the country.

In fact it's down right boring. They have had the same dishes on there for probably the last 10-11 years. The portion sizes are good and you do get your money worth but it's the same old stuff all the time. For a pub with such a unique location in the countryside you would think that there would be seasonal specials on a regular basis but there isn't. The food isn't exciting or adventurous. Some may argue that it is outdated! Pie and chips, scampi and chips, gammon and chips, steak and chips you see where I'm going with this? I pity the chef that has to cook this day in day out. With no flair or imagination I'd loose the will to live having to cook this all the time. Having said that the pub is pretty much fully booked every weekend so they must be doing something right at least? The food is cooked well although the steaks can be a bit hit and miss? If you want simple food and a menu that is so predictable it would make Mystic Meg look like an ammeter then this is the place for you. If you want somewhere with a bit more flair and excitement then go somewhere else. Personally with so much in offer in the way of food and drink I'd find somewhere else to eat and drink but everybody is different in their tastes.

It has a cosy atmosphere and I've never been disappointed with the food. My last visit there was last Saturday for my Grandpappy's 79th birthday. 8 of us went and we were all more than happy with the food and service. Meals consumed on our table were my choice of beef, ale and mushroom pie, lamb shank, salmon, pork belly in a cider sauce, home made lasagne and the special: chicken supreme. The pie was excellent, marred only slightly by my food envy of Grandpappy's pork belly, wow! All in all a great night and based on this visit I have to give the Globe 5 stars, as it was a flawless meal and Grandpappy had the best birthday he could ask for. Good times.

Tonight was a family birthday so about 10 of us visited, I had Supreme of chicken which was served with rice and salad. It was good quality pub grub, nothing cordon blu but it was really tasty, decent portion and good value. My husband had the pie and chips, he enjoyed it although others who had the same complained it was a bit rich and the lid was 'too much crust'. The staff were fairly friendly, and attentive checking things were okay with our orders etc and willing to bring drinks to the table. My issue with The Globe is it does seem to lack atmosphere, I'm not sure what or how it just does, I never leave thinking 'I must go back'. Having said that it's always busy, so they must be doing something right.

As a youngster I used to love going to The Golden Heart with my family. It felt really comfortable and had loads of room inside and amazing front and back gardens. Unfortunately that has long but disappeared and the bar now feels more like a waiting room and the restaurant has now soul. It is a real shame because the food is really good. It's a bit over price for the area, but good all the same. The drinks are crazy prices for this side of town: £4.80 for a pint of ale! This place has so much potential, but unfortunately doesn't deliver. Such a shame!

I went to The Golden Heart yesterday for a Christmas lunch with my Mum, Nan and sisters and was…read morereally disappointed! We were told that they had a lot of Christmas lunch bookings and so we'd have a wait for food, so we got there early.... And were the first table in there. Within half an hour there were a few largish tables in (4-8 people) but the restaurant was by no means full, in fact not even half full. The drink prices are high for the area, so I chose the cheapest Rose on the menu, which I assumed was the house wine at £5 for a large glass. Soda water was charged at £1 a glass, most places will include this free of charge especially if you are eating. Most of us chose to eat from the set price lunch menu at £11.95 for two or £13.95 for three courses... But this menu only included flatbreads and a small choice of mains dishes. They hadn't had their fish delivery so the fish dishes were unavailable, but they did have fish cakes which is what I chose. When the food finally arrived (after an hour of waiting) it did look reasonably nice, presentation wise, and my family liked their flatbreads but my fish cakes were horrible! They didn't taste much of fish, more like cheese - I honestly would have guessed baked Camembert or something and that's not what I was after at all as I'm not much of a cheese fan! So we did a bit of swapping around and I had some of the duck flatbread which as nice enough. We all chose a pudding, they took another 30 minutes to arrive and weren't warm as they should be... I had treacle tart with ginger cream - didn't taste a bit like ginger! When we got the bill I realised I'd been charged £7 for my wine, so I questioned it and apparently the house wine is not the cheap one, it's a few choices down on the menu and costs more???!! I don't know anywhere else I've been where the house wine is not the first listed and cheapest on the menu??! Very bizarre! There was no goodwill gesture either just a brief and miserable 'sorry' from what I assumed was the manager on the day. All in all it wasn't a pleasant experience, there was a frosty reception from most staff apart from a girl on the bar, who was very nice, a ridiculous wait in a restaurant no one would class as busy at all (who knows how they would cope on a busy Mothers Day!) food wasn't up to scratch, and drinks overpriced. I've been going to the Golden Heart since I was a kid and it used to be one of the best pubs in the area for families in the summer and it was relatively cheap and cheerful back then... Its transformation into a trendy country pub initially gave it a 'quality' status and we would go for special occasions for a nice meal, but since I feel it has gone downhill and as a result you are paying over the odds for nothing special and so I wouldn't recommend it, sadly!
