My Midnight Caramel River ice cream was rich in dark chocolate and vanilla ice creams with ribbons of generous caramel - so yummy! I was immediately greeted, waited on and served. Didn't even know they were there! Newer shopping strip but when you walk through the door it feels like it's been there for decades. Stopped in after taking my grandson to the climbing wall at Hoover Met, and the young man who helped us was fantastic! My grandson wanted a banana split and it was huge. Custom-made because he just wanted chocolate ice cream. 3 scoops went in the boat, then the banana and he turned and asked, with the addition of each ingredient, syrup or hot fudge?...chocolate chips?...sprinkles? He made it so fun for us. I mean, really, how often does a 7 yr old actually get to customize anything? He could only finish 1/2 of it but it was the best $7 I've spent in a long time. I ordered a chocolate milkshake (and it was made with chocolate ice cream), best ever! Also, they have a cute over-sized Adirondack chair out front that's great for a photo op. Even though they have moved farther away from us, it is still the same great service with the same great flavors and combinations. They always have fresh, flavorful ice cream and their operating hours during the summer are till 10pm for that lady minute craving... for me I can't get past the banana split, it always brings back good memories and is a decent amount of ice cream. The one thing I would highly recommend they make the container for the banana split larger. By the time I got to the table outside it had already started to over flow by melting. I've been here a few times now so I feel comfortable leaving a 5 star review. The level of service and the goodness of the ice cream has been consistent and they have punch cards that allow you to earn a free scoop of ice cream after ten punches. Who doesn't like that? The inside is very clean and the majority of the employees are young (which is not always a good thing), but management must have expectations for their younger staff because they have always been professional when I've been. They are attentive (i.e. not on their phones) and have good attitudes. The first time I went, I chose the juvenile flavor of cotton candy ice cream in a cone. I was kind of missing my kids, who are spending their summer with my parents, so I picked something I knew they'd like. It was actually really good. It wasn't overly sweet. My husband took my kids, who came home briefly came home last week, to this place and they loved it because I had told them all about the cotton candy ice cream I had. A couple days ago, I went and had a brownie sundae with praline ice cream. It was a lot of food for me, but it was delicious. I'm sure I'll be back in there some time this week because I love a good scoop of ice cream. read more

Logan's attitude during our recent visit was highly disrespectful to every customer he engaged with. My friend was having trouble deciding, and Logan rushed him, even skipping over him despite the establishment not being busy. This is uncharacteristic of the otherwise positive experiences I've had at this establishment. Aneal and the other staff member on duty (whose name I did not get) were excellent. Logan's rudeness extended to his colleagues as well. While I understand that everyone has off days, this behavior was disappointing. I hope Logan can improve his customer service in the future. read more

Found this place when looking for something local. In a very clean strip all. My husband had a sundae, and I had a waffle cone with a generous scoop of pralines & cream ice cream. Came here for ice cream with family. I'd say this ice cream place is about average. No complaints, but nothing special. I definitely don't think the ice cream is homemade. They have a good selection of unique flavors to pick from along with a few different cones. My ice cream was good and came as I requested it. Employees were friendly. Prices were reasonable. My friend Kimia M., a future Yelp Elite, and I came in here after seeing a Yelp offer for a free ice cream sandwich once you check in here as a token of their appreciation. We were in Greystone, a good 20-25 minutes away but decided to go for it since it was "free". We finally get there, and see the shop is cute, had a good amount of seating, and was booming with business with customers of all ages. There were highs and lows to this visit though. For the good, the ice cream selection looked amazing, and there were your typical "boring" flavors like vanilla as Kimia called it LOL. They also offered flavors like Birthday Cake and Raspberry Chocolate Chip. I tried samples of the Watermelon sorbet, which was so refreshing and Cotton Candy, which was just plain delicious. I didn't try more flavors since there were several people in line behind us, so I ended up just getting the same ice cream sandwich as my friend which were the Triple Chocolate and Coffee Almond Fudge. I figured these flavors along with a chocolate chip cookie should be good. The cookie itself was fantastic. The best chocolate chip cookie I've ever had. The chocolate chunks were just huge. The ice cream I couldn't actually taste once it was inside the cookie though, all you could feel was something cold in between the cookies. So if I'm going by the free samples, I had I can tell you that they have some outstanding flavors. As for the bad part, we got to the register, pull up our Yelp deals, and we get valid codes. Then the owner tells us he actually discontinued this offer. Since the offer was still up there, he said he would give us a buy one get one free deal. So I paid $3.75 for mine and Kimia got hers for free. It was confusing why the full offer could not be honored. Why put it up there in the first place when not many people are gonna see this offer anyways? He should have given it as a reward for people like me with attention to detail in my opinion. By us both checking into Yelp, about 500 of our combined friends on Yelp would have seen us come here, and word would spread about their business. We also took pictures, which helps anyone using Yelp who was curious or on the fence about what they had here. The other customers in the store at that time were completely oblivious to this deal and some unaware of what Yelp even was. They came here with their own free will.... whether they were new or regular customers. So I don't think it would have been a huge loss for the company, to have honored the full offer put on Yelp just one last time. We both loved the ice cream, and would have come back in the future as regular customers. We came specifically to redeem this Yelp offer and find a new place to possibly rave about on Yelp. I noticed that their Yelp offer on this page has been updated within the last 24 hours to a "50% off an ice cream sandwich" offer. I'm sure it was because he saw how disappointed we were when he had to tell us we do not get free ice cream. Oh well, you live and you learn. read more

The owner is an amazing person (not a personal friend, but he has definitely won me over as a customer!)! He always has a happy demeanor and a kind word to the customers. The store is also SO involved in the community. I see them donating ice cream and cakes to support the community fundraisers ALL THE TIME! Went here tonight for the first time, while visiting my parents here in Hoover, from out of town. As someone that used to own a place that had Hand-dipped Ice Cream, I know what all goes into an establishment like this (staffing, work-flow, organization, etc.) And they've done well! Prices were extremely reasonable, and the young man, Hunter, who waited on us was GREAT!! They had about 5 large parties (families with kids) that came in unexpectedly, and he and the other young man (Trainee?) handled it great and EXTREMELY Quickly and Organized! As someone that is Lactose Intolerant, I was happy to see that they had a couple of flavors of Dairy-Free Italian Ice. I had the Mango it is was really good. My father had a banana split, my mother had a cone, and my wife had a single scoop cup. Let's just say that no one had any left! ;) We will definitely be back the next time we are in town! read more

We went there because we heard they have good ice cream... and they delivered just that a really good ice cream. It was many flavors and different cones and bowl options. The owner was there with his daughter which gave it a very nice family business feel. They were both very nice and friendly. We heard that if you check in there you get a voucher for a free ice cream sandwich, we did and it gave us the code. The OWNER said that wasn't the case and that he had discontinued his advertising with yelp. Either way he only honored one of our yelp codes when we checked in. It didn't matter if we had to pay. The point was that the code was on here. But if you go there The check in free ice cream is no longer valid. But it doesn't matter. A throw back to the vintage ice cream parlors! Approximately 30 flavors to choose from can make it quite difficult to decide which one to go with. Fruity to chocolate they have flavors for everyone. You can also get it in a cup or in a variety of different cones. All flavors can be made into a mild shake as well. The milk shakes here are done exceptionally well. Still a little thick but not so thick you feel you are going to suck your brain out trying to get the first taste to come through the straw. If you are having a hard time deciding on a flavor they are more than accommodating with the small spoon samples. The only thing better then buying ice cream at the Whole Scoop is getting it for free....and you can do that too! They have a great rewards program that gives you a free single scoop after your tenth purchase. About a half dozen tables inside and some chairs set up under a sun shield outside. They also have treats for your four-legged friends so don't hesitate to bring them along with you. The workers were VERY nice!! The ice cream was also amazing. But today my friends and I sat in the big blue chair and one of my friends accidentally fell off. She ACCIDENTALLY knocked over a plant. She went in and told them she knocked it over. Then the owner came out and started yelling at us. I thought he was joking and started laughing but later realizing he wasn't kidding. This made my friend CRY if that shows how much he yelled at us. He banned us from coming in the store for a day because of an ACCIDENT. Not sure if we will be coming back. read more

Tiny neighborhood ice cream shop. Roughly 30 flavors of ice cream, shakes, Sundaes etc... Prices are modest compared to some of the boutiquey ice cream, froyo and popsicle places popping up. The service was prompt and friendly. The interior appeared clean. Only 3 tables, a few bar stools and a out door bench for seating options. The outdoor area is a few parking spaces wide on the side of the building covered by an easy up canopy with a few plastic patio chairs. My son said the sea turtle was awesome and better than The Fat Elvis and other flavors sampled a little further up S Shades Crest next to Mr. P's. read more
