    The Truth ..

ahh the whitehall club. from the outside it may seem like a place of luxury and class don't be deceived, it is everything but. if it's not for the cockroaches, it's the rats, if that's not enough maybe the toxic black mold that coats the locker rooms. that stuff will kill you. moving on, let's say you work 5 days a week and you want to go to the pool Friday after work. yeah, no. there closed Fridays for "cleaning". there is no heat in the pool area so prepare to freeze. be prepared to be yelled at by the nasty old lady's to move out of your lane because they always use that lane and they like it. oh yes, the gym. the filthy machines covered in sweat, and the scattered equipment all over the place, and the old men grunting and moaning lifting their weights. to conclude, let's discuss management. now that is just a sorry lost cause. stubborn, depressed people who hate their lives and job! i hope this review gives you enough insight into the hell hole called the whitehall. ps if you think you may drown don't do it between 5-6 pm because the person watching the pool is a porter. that is not a Lifeguard or certified in any way. they're just giving the lifeguard a break.

I love it here! The pool is clean and I couldn't spot any dead flies inside the water or any debris as it was reported in an old review. Maybe they changed the management or they took notice of the complaints, but as of now, it is fabulous here. I checked three independent gyms with olympic size pools in Manhattan, low Westchester and here in Riverdale; there is no comparison whatsoever with this pool. I am very satisfied with my one-year membership. I will review it from time to time for updates.

We love the pool and WH staff!

What a great gym! This multi-story, luxury gym is really nice and certainly a place to check out…read moreIMHO. The equipment is great, the facilities are great, the amenities are great, the group exercise classes are great.... the indoor tennis courts... the golf practice area... I could go on and on, really. Some of my favorite aspects include: - The Fitness Equipment: TCR has cardio machines (elliptical, treadmill, bikes, etc.), nautilus equipment, free weights, a Smith machine, TRX, etc. You name it, they have it. They even have a recumbent bike that has video games integrated into it. So, as you are riding the bike, you can pretend that you are rolling along in your own "shot 'em up" style game. Very cool. -The pool: The pool itself is huge and multi-lane. It even opens up to a large deck for getting some sun or hitting up their pool bar and grill. Oh, and they have Happy Hours on the deck on Fridays during the summer! -The group exercise classes: TCR offers Les Mills classes and other great strength, cardio, cycle, and "mind, body, spirit" classes. There is definitely something for everyone. -The staff: Wow! The staff at TCR are all so nice and knowledgeable. Kudos to the management for excellent recruiting and training! Special Note: If you have kids, this place is great, too because they host camps for kids and other youth programming. They even have transportation to get your kids to and from the facility. The bottom line: Check out this gym. It is really first-rate all around.

The location is great with several stores and restaurants in the area. You can work out, pick up groceries from Target, and get some food from a nearby restaurant. This is a large gym with two floors full of equipment. The busiest time is usually weekday evening hours. The weekends are when I usually go. It is mostly empty and I can work out at my own pace. The only hectic time is at the start of the year when everyone is here starting to work out. Everything is clean and easy to access. There are times where a machine is broken or a ceiling tile needs to be replaced but those issues are fixed quickly. Everyone is friendly and helpful here. I love the large amount of space to walk around. Compared to the Wall Street location, this place gives you a lot of breathing room. I will continue to work out here and keep up with my fitness journey.

But I have a hard time doing it on my own - it just seems so boring compared to other sorts of exercise. But Uptown Movement changed this for me. I signed up for the unlimited classes, and I went 2-3 times a week. I've been at it for about two years now, and the difference in my overall fitness and well-being is huge. There is a friendliness to this place, an openness to great diversity in terms of age, race, sexuality, body size and type, language, etc. that is immensely appealing. I like the coaches and my classmates (mostly women) enough to make me want to go. The emphasis is never on how one looks or losing weight - it's always on increasing mobility and strength, especially as one ages. Before I started taking these classes, I had back problems (especially when picking up my 70-pound dog to bathe her), and I often sprained an ankle (weakened by a bad injury in my youth) and sometimes fell (my dog pulls me a lot). For the last 2 years, I haven't sprained my ankle, haven't been injured falling (and have hardly ever fallen at all), and more. And I can now deadlift my weight. In sum, I think this gym is great, and I encourage you to do your body (and mind) a great favor and join.

The first meeting he was 5 mins late bc a neighbor needed a jump. No big deal, didn't think much of it. The next week he said he had to give my son's apt away bc one of his trainers quit. He changed the apt 4 times, ultimately I asked him to train the two of them together, so my son could keep the apt. After that, he continued to call and text at least 10 plus times per apt saying Sundays are hard for him, can we move it to Saturdays etc. He insisted he could not confirm the Sunday time until Sunday morning, so we had to hold the whole day aside until we heard from him. He clearly doesn't understand that in good business, you try to accommodate the customer. He had absolutely no respect for our time. I am a single mother and I work on the weekends, so this kind of crazy making completely stressed me out. I called him on it and he dropped us. He gave me the rest of my money back, but I am still trying to get a refund from Astral Fitness, the gym he required us to join in order to train with him. We have switched to Westchester Boxing Gym which is $100 per hour (no extra gym fee), which turns out is the going rate. Joe was $25 per session. I can only guess that Joe has to over book himself to survive on such low rates and in doing so, becomes overwhelmed and pleases no one. It had occurred to me to offer Joe $50 per session if he could keep to a schedule, but I didn't want to be jerked around at a higher rate and be even more disappointed.
