Every time I've come, the locker room has been clean. You bring your own lock but sometimes, if I'm not carrying much, I'll just have my stuff on the floor with me. The treadmills are decent. There area few older ones I prefer not using, but in the early evening, it's a hit or miss, because they get pretty filled up. Weight training is great. They have a few locations on the floor for Olympic bar work. I was able to perform my pyramids sets with an ease of adding and removing weights. During peak time, however, it can be difficult finding a spot. You might find yourself having to wait and adjust your workout due to what's available. All in all, the gym fits my needs and I will look into a possible membership. I like that they're 24 hours. I have a current rotator cuff injury, so I will be waiting until I get the go ahead, to begin my future modified workouts.

The air conditioning was broken for months this past summer -- forcing members, many of whom are minorities, to work out in unsafe heat. The facility is filthy, machines are constantly broken, and the saunas and pool were actually shut down by the health commissioner (yes, you read that right). The leg press has been broken for months, weights are scattered everywhere, and half the benches are ripped apart. The squat rack is always missing plates, and sometimes you can't even find a 10 lb weight. Every machine feels like it's about to fall apart. I tried to stick it out, but you can't even have a decent workout here -- it's impossible to track progress when everything's broken or missing. I finally canceled my membership. This gym is an embarrassment and should be inspected immediately.

Former Member - Bronx Native…read more Before I joined the Navy, this gym was my regular spot. I lived five minutes away, born and raised in the Bronx, and for a while it felt like a community space. I'd run into people I grew up with, friends from high school, people I hadn't seen in years. That part meant a lot to me. Unfortunately, the front desk and management ruined it. First issue: I was pressured and misled into buying personal training I didn't need. Once I signed, the trainer couldn't even work with my schedule. No flexibility, no accountability -- just take the money and move on. Second: clear favoritism by staff. Certain people were allowed to play music out loud, break rules, and do whatever they wanted -- but when others did the same thing, suddenly it was a problem. That inconsistency creates a bad environment fast. Third: amenities constantly unavailable. Even years ago, when it was still XSport Fitness, the pool would be randomly closed. Add in parking issues -- paying for parking on certain days on top of a membership -- and it just felt like nickel-and-diming members. The biggest issue, though, was the front desk culture. Unprofessional, dismissive, and uncomfortable energy. There were maybe one or two decent staff members, but overall it felt like complaints were brushed off and members were made to feel like they were the problem for speaking up. I left, moved to California, and honestly thought about coming back to this gym when I returned -- only to find it shut down entirely. That didn't surprise me. When a business ignores its community and runs a place into the ground, this is usually how it ends. It's bittersweet. I'm sad the neighborhood lost a gym, because the community deserves recreational spaces. But I'm not surprised this one didn't survive. Poor management, poor treatment of members, and bad business decisions eventually catch up. I genuinely hope a better gym takes that space -- one that respects the Bronx community and actually runs the place the right way.

I love this place and would recommend their trainers to anyone! I'd strongly recommend my personal trainer there, Joseph Hunt, his knowledge on strength training and weight loss is awesome! Hunt helped me to tone up the extra 10 pounds I had gained over the summer and also corrected some painful back issues I had....mostly due to laziness and inactivity,lol. But he also focuses on medical exercise and Bootcamp training (small group exercise) for all ages and body types. The pros: Plenty of parking, small atmosphere, never have to worry about overcrowding, it is very clean so you don't have to worry about gross sweaty gym equipment, everyone is friendly, and you never have to feel subconscious about the way you look. Every time you workout you will get something different, and each workout will be an intense experience, leaving little room for boredom. The cons: Limited windows, so you may get tired of staring at walls while you workout and the locker room only has one available shower.

I was skeptical at first about OPEX, however its scientific approach to fitness totally won me over. At first Dylan does an assessment of the person's fitness level, lifestyle choices, diet, and exercise habits. Then an assessment of the person's every muscle group is conducted and recorded whereas cardiovascular assessment is also done. Then the process becomes to prescribe specific exercises each week that will transform each muscle group to a fit level. I absolutely love the customizable aspect of OPEX and the fact that I can work out 4-5 days a week at my own pace while Dylan is there answering all of my questions / and making sure I am doing all the exercises correctly so I don't hurt myself. I am 47 years old and I like boot camp but I certainly don't want to overdo it and hurt myself. The only downside is that OPEX is more expensive than other gyms. However the fully personalized aspect and its science based approach totally makes it worthwhile.
