    Bacon Benny

The Wellington Diner has a cozy and fun atmosphere with its '50s vibe, music, and decor, making every visit a pleasure. The food is consistently great, and my go-to is the bacon Benny. I like to customize it by swapping the peameal bacon for regular bacon, adding a delicious twist to a classic dish. It's a spot that combines nostalgic charm with tasty eats.

They have a great reputation in the trendy neighbourhood of Westboro, and no disappointments here. Just generous portions of classic diner fare with some creative twists like Mac'n'cheese burgers. The menu is very big and the expert servers are friendly. Check out their website and social media feed for lots of juicy pics! I've yet to enjoy the patio but it looks nice.

Other than Panda Game, the other reason why I came to Ottawa was to check out the diner scene that I have missed from my days at Carleton University. And finally, I got to check out the legendary Wellington Diner. Considered one of Ottawa's best diners in the city, the Wellington Diner offers a great variety of diner fare, whether it be breakfast plates, hashes, burgers, poutine, etc, there is something for the varying appetites. After looking over the menu, I decided upon the Rough Rider Hash as I was looking for a big hearty brunch. Boy, that hash was quite filling. A nice balance between the friend potatoes, Hollaindaise, sauteed beef and veggies and poached egg, it was a symphony in my mouth. My other two friends ordered the Boss Poutine and the Chuck's Cheese Burger and based on their expressions, they were quite pleased with the quantity and quality. Although this place has received mixed reviews on their service, my friends and I received great service from our waitress. I wish we got her name as she was quite pleasant and provided great recommendations for us. I can't wait for my next trip to Ottawa as I am dying to go back to even potentially try their food challenge or even just for a good hangover breakfast.

I've been there twice for lunch and found it pretty average both times. I get the impression that this is more of a breakfast/brunch place. I couldn't help notice that that's what the majority of surrounding tables opted for. Interesting decor, nice atmosphere and good service but again, the food is just ok, nothing more.

Looked up on sites and found a nearby restaurant for brunch. The website seemed to suit our needs but upon reaching it was closed for renovation. Went up to this Diner for brunch. Seemed quite busy, and we were seated in about 10 minutes. Lots of Uber Eats drivers picking up food. Between the four of us we ordered a scrambled with toast and home fries, but replaced the eggs with Tofu for about $2 extra - not worth extra for sure and overall the dish lacked any flavour. In our opinion it should be a discount not extra for the amount of tofu replaced. And even than probably not worth. The "Green Onion Homies" are nothing but home fries with a few chopped green onions on top the potatoes were the frozen kind. Fancy name but nothing new in your palate. Only one slice of bread-because it was Rye? We ordered # 1 Omelette which was very good. The Brie came up nicely We also ordered a off the menu item called Grilled Cheese with Benedict with chipotle hollandaise rather than the regular. This dish was good but the chipotle holly was below average We ordered a traditional breakfast with no meat and was surprised with the quantity of eggs. Did not seem 2 eggs at all. May be one. The fries hardly any and just one slice of toast-perhaps I ordered a whole wheat? And finally breakfast poutine. Which was good. The coffee was good, but had to ask for seconds and that's it. Shouldn't they come asking if we needed more? Little less than $90 for a breakfast for four. Quite expensive for my budget and not sure if I would return back.

Quirky and delicious. Lots of old style signs and posters on the walls. Solid breakfast menu and friendly service with a smile.

No line-ups. We weren't keen on sitting by the door due to the draft coming in. We were told we had to wait for a two-seater because they didn't want us to take up a four seat table. We're like wtf??? I can see this if you the hot new restaurant in town and huge demand, but quite literally there was four 4-seat tables sitting empty and no line-up. In any event, we stayed, sitting in some two-seater jammed in the corner. And then we ordered a breakfast. I'm a Ozempic user, so I don't eat much - I was going to take an egg, a piece of bacon, and a couple of potatoes from my wife's plate. Oh - can't do that. There's a $2 "sharing charge". Like, wtf? I'm done with this place and their stupid policies. The food is typical diner fair that you can get any diner, nothing special here.

Similarly, in the 'Foodie" world, the eating experience has to have Umami or any other of the 5 tastes. I can't believe the number of Adjectives used to describe food in these times. Sometimes, and I maybe dating myself here, we just want good tasting grub. Should I be calling it 'Comfort Food'? Depends on your definition. For example, food that provides consolation or a feeling of well-being, typically any with a high sugar or other carbohydrate content and associated with childhood (nostalgic or sentimental value) or home cooking. For the record, I grew up in England in the 60's & 70's. Beef drippings on Toast, full English Breakfast with fried (in bacon fat) bread & of course the ubiquitous 'Beans on Toast". To make a long review longer, I was in the Westgate mall/Carling Ave area recently for one of those visits to the Civic that require fasting as of the previous midnight. After my discharge, around NOON 30, I found myself in the parking lot of the Mall and noticed the Marque for Rockin Johnny's Diner. How could I resist. Especially since I was starving. No expectations or previous experience in this establishment to reference. But I was looking for some nostalgic Diner food. Once I received the menu, I found the Liver and Onions. Tender baby beef liver grilled and topped with sauteed onions, bacon & their famous gravy. I chose the fries as a side with corn. One can choose onion rings (why?), mashed potatoes or seasoned rice. I am very picky when it comes to my mash so, generally speaking, I only eat at home. Oh boy was it good. Everything reminded me of my earlier days. The liver was just the way I like it - not burnt but with a crispy sear on it. The bacon (at least 4 strips) covered the whole protein, it was accompanied with the right amount of onions and topped with a rich gravy. Two more items that are paramount - a warm plate so the meal stays hot til you're done and more than a few dabs of HP sauce were provided. Everything was marvelous. Like having an out-of-body experience. The only thing missing was a dinner roll or slice of bread & butter. I paired my meal with a coffee as tea in restaurants is never hot enough. Times have changed as the beverage was almost $4 but it was a bottomless cup. Final bill was a bit pricey for everyday but every once in-a-while a nice treat.
