(Some people in our group went to Carolina beach last year and they said it felt like a dive bar and Wrightsville Beach was much nicer. ) The sandwich shop next door had decent prepared sandwiches, coffee, and alcohol. We also had a good dinner at Oceanic across the street. The pool was very nice and never very busy. Our rooms were clean and the place was quiet (except for footsteps above). Each suite is individually owned so there was variability in the kitchen set up (e.g., full-sized fridge vs smaller, oven vs toaster oven, high table vs regular table) and decor of some units is more updated than others. Also, my unit had blackout drapes but others didn't. They also had beach chairs, beach towels, and sand toys available to use. WiFi was fast enough to upload pictures to social media but was slow for more data-heavy tasks. Breakfast is available in the lobby starting at 7:30. There are no tables to eat in the lobby but they have trays so that you can take the food back to your room. They had fresh fruit, juices, cold cereal, instant oatmeal, instant grits, packaged pastries, coffee (no decaf), and tea. Taphne and Steven were extremely nice and very helpful. Our reservations were complicated and changed at least twice and they were very accommodating. We booked directly (instead of booking dot com) and Taphne gave us a discount.

The staff was friendly and knowledgeable of the area! Continental breakfast was provided every morning in the lobby. The staff was friendly and helpful in advising places in which to eat and ways to get to our destination. The room was clean and quaint with a nice small & functional kitchen. The suite had two rooms, bathroom and kitchen. There was an ocean view and a nice balcony with a view of the Atlantic Ocean. Across the street was the Oceanic seafood restaurant, would recommend that to any traveler in the area. The continental breakfast was also quality. The options included boxed cereal, juices, breakfast bars, and fruit. The coffee was hand batched each morning and bags delivered to the rooms. The staff was always friendly in the morning, greeting and advising the people staying!

Since this…read morewas our first time to Wrightsville we first checked out the local area and decided where we would have dinner. We made dinner reservations for 6:00 pm. As we were leaving the room that evening, my husband put his hand on the door to make sure it closed behind us and it opened right up. The door would not lock upon exiting. We could use the deadbolt from the inside but we had no way to secure it from the outside. Since we had already checked in, we could not leave the room unlocked, even if we removed our stuff, because we were responsible for the room. We texted multiple times and left phone messages for management and finally a young man responded at 9:00 pm saying he was on his way out but would stop by. Unfortunately, he was unable to fix it and he said someone would be out first thing in the morning to repair the door. In the morning, we waited until 10:00 am before it was repaired because the maintenance guy was on another job. I called the Sea Scape Properties management company upon our return home and spoke to Ashley. I told Ashley that we only had two nights there and we could not leave the room the first night so we wanted a refund for our first night. Ashley said she had to check with the owners and she would get back to me. I waited two weeks and I did not get a call back. I called again and spoke with Ashley and she again said she was waiting for the owners response. She assured me she would call me the following Monday, and it has been another two plus weeks and I have not heard back. I can appreciate that things break or go wrong, but the measure of good service by a company is the concern for their customers by taking prompt action for repairs, prompt resolution for what is being asked for (return of one night charge) and good customer service communication. I have not received any of these. As I now try to complete their online survey, it says the "survey has closed".

Well. One of the reasons that Shell Island Resort is so special to us is its solitude - the hotel…read moreis at the very end of Wilmington Beach on the Atlantic Ocean. (Getting here on the main narrow road - which ends right at the Resort - you'd be lucky to see cars, let alone traffic. Now, this means: quiet! I mean delightedly quiet. Now, this doesn't mean that this establishment is not popular. In especially holiday times. We are so fortunate to stay here off-season! We have been coming here to celebrate our anniversary for years. It is uniquely "away" though, ironically, easily accessible to other places of interest and need! We've found a plethora of activities in this amazing area: sight seeing, shoreline hiking, for-hire water excursions and rent-for-a-day bikes, boats, sailing and other ocean/canal equipment, and so much more! Obviously, Wrightsville Beach is ON THE ATLANTIC OCEAN! BEACH SPORTS and equipment are rental available. (We ecomimically advise you to bring folding chairs and other beach use friendly goodies with you). There are kitchenettes in each unit! Hurray! That said, many different kinds of restaurants surround this area for every pocketbook (yea!) and the town of Wilmington itself is tourist friendly and is certainly not far away. Oh. Back to the Resort! EVERY ROOM FACES THE OCEAN! I think it's amazing other hotels have not thought of this magical formula to get more guests! No matter your budget, no matter the floor you are on, you will face the Atlantic Ocean. In the morning, you will see the sunrise in all its glory from each room! Now ... how good is THAT? The resort has a an exercise room; a hot tub (outside) huge outdoor swimming pool and a covered heated pool inside. And !!! It has a small, satisfying restaurant in hours. Yes, there is a bar as well. Guess you may surmise, from our joy coming here all these years in a row, SHELL ISLAND RESORT is its own welcoming 'home'! If you've read other reviews, you will know that a few others have not been as excited as we have in our years visiting here. It should be noted the Suites have been thoroughly updated and not 'old' or 'filthy' as mentioned in earlier reviews! That said, there's never been a unit that we have rented here that hasn't been exceptional or at the least more than adequate . Our multiple experiences here gives us the experiential intuition that whatever might be lacking in an individual unit - for any reason - the management wouldn't be easily accessible and professionally prepared to address any issues!

Everything was clean, the only issues I had were with the TVs. First the batteries were dead in the remotes, and the TV in the bedroom wouldn't even turn on. But, I wasn't there to watch TV. Lol. The beach access leads out from the hotel, past the pools, onto a wooden bridge which takes you right out to the ocean. I also enjoyed a few drinks at the hotel restaurant and bar. I had a nice time and I would return.

Our final point of contact, Austin, demonstrated a lack of understanding of North Carolina tenant law and was unresponsive when concerns were raised. Our security deposit was not returned within the required 30-day window. We received no proactive communication and had to follow up repeatedly before it was sent. When it finally arrived, most of the deposit had been withheld for alleged damages that were not present when we vacated the property. They have a pattern of charging blanket amounts of $1500 for "paint fees" as you can see in other reviews. Throughout our tenancy, communication was poor. Requests often went unanswered unless followed up on multiple times, and responses--when received--were unhelpful or dismissive. Notably, female tenants were routinely ignored until male tenants reached out, which was both frustrating and unacceptable. I also strongly advise against renting 1622 Grey Cliff Run. The owners were difficult to work with, unaccommodating, and made the move-out process unnecessarily contentious despite the property sitting vacant. When I attempted to dispute the charges and asked the leasing company to facilitate communication, I was informed that their role is limited to collecting the deposit. They would not assist with resolving the dispute or provide the owner's contact information, leaving tenants without any meaningful support or path to resolution. Overall, this company lacks professionalism, transparency, and respect for tenants. Renters should proceed with caution.

Intracoastal Realty has properties in the same building if you're in love w the location, but don't want to chance having the type of interaction I did w Bryant Real Estate. Out of numerous times I spoke w someone from Bryant Real Estate there were only 2 conversations that left me feeling as though they actually cared about my experience w their co (sorry you're grouped in this review to the gentleman that came to check if we had power & the woman I spoke w over the phone on 9/2/19). When you book & pay for your vacation via Vrbo you won't be privy to the specifics & contract pertaining to your stay... 1.) The less than $100 we saved by not booking at the nearby Hampton Inn would've been worth it for the bath mats, towels, garbage bags, bedding, etc. they charge for you to rent from them...odd. 2.) The associate I spoke with, Steven, stated I couldn't speak w anyone else there, he wouldn't answer some questions, didn't know the answer to others, & flat out asked if I ever stopped talking 3.) The contract you are emailed to sign AFTER you've booked & paid for your rental states "Please note: Travel Insurance must be purchased by your scheduled final rental payment." which A.) would've been good to know prior when I paid for the rental in full & B.) isn't true as I spoke w CSA (the insurance provider) who stated you're able to purchase rental insurance thru them up until 24 hrs before your check in day/time 4.) I travel frequently & I've never encountered a co that didn't seem concerned in the slightest about ensuring their guests had a pleasant stay 5.) In case it could help anyone that books during a time of inclement weather: In 2018 a woman was unable to stay in a rental she paid for on Vrbo w SeaShore Realty in Topsail Beach. The woman reached out to the management co. They told her if she didn't purchase travel insurance, she isn't entitled to a refund as specified in the NC Vacation Rental Act according to WRAL Channel 5 News Station. They cited the mayor's proclamation that only property owners & disaster recovery teams can access the island & rentals weren't allowed. NC Real Estate Commission: The commission's chief deputy legal counsel says if a vacation home is left damaged or inaccessible after a storm regardless of insurance they're entitled to a comparable home at the same cost or a full refund.
