After contacting hotel through text, they moved us to 2 more rooms and one room was fine but the other had the musky smell also and sand bags at the door. We messaged the people again and they moved us from a king room to a double room with no kitchen and no sink in bathroom. The bathroom was on the opposite side of the wall near the beds. They put us on the second floor, they DON'T have an elevator, without asking if we could climb stairs. The air conditioner didn't work good and the hot water didn't get hot in shower. My mother was awaken the next morning by construction happening in the room above her. They had power tools and hammers just a going. We had about 3 hours before checkout and had fished all night on pier. When we complained to the front office, the girl said she would give us about 30 minutes to get woke up so they could work putting the floor in upstairs. This place has no respect for people staying here. They like to cater more to the regulars that stay all the time, that came the mouth of one of the guys that stays at least once a month to fish. Needless to say that this is NOT a 4.5 star hotel or like 2.5!! For what we paid we expected to be treated with some kind of respect but we were not!!

This is a older recreation area but they have everything you need for a getaway. The location is on the Atlantic ocean coastline of North Carolina. If you forget anything there are some items for sale inside the visitor center. They have several lodging options, rv hook ups, canoes and bike rentals. There is a beach house with food, lots of area for cooking out with seating. You can also go boating or bring your own jet skis. The views off the dock are absolutely beautiful stayed in a cottage which was rather nice for the price. I was literally across the street from the Kure beach. Houses in the area start at 1 million dollars and up. Hotels and house rentals in the area are a bit pricey, but would be worth it for a short getaway. Just a few miles down the road Ft Fisher has a state park & a aquarium that is close. Call before you go to for hrs and operations. Im sure I will be back for a future visit! I really had a relaxing, people free weekend! @glampedlife

We stayed at The Lighthouse at Kure Beach for four nights in mid October. I like going to the beach…read morein the off season. The weather is still nice enough to enjoy the beach, the hotel deck and the pier. In narrowing down where we wanted to stay, it came down to who we are as vacationers. Even when at the beach we tend to spend quite a bit of time in our hotel, so it's more than just a bed to sleep in between activities, we want it to be comfortable and nice. The Lighthouse was perfect because it's just been renovated, is as close as you can get to the water, and depending on what room you choose, you can have an overview of the ocean. We chose the Grandview, and it was. I will mention there are residential homes right next to it but that was fine by us. I would describe our room as a lovely studio apartment with a massive bathroom. There's a pretty full kitchen, mini fridge, table to eat at, couch and very comfy bed. Now, the bed is very close to the kitchen but again, it was fine. The decor is trendy, grays and minimal. The dividers on the deck are sort of like shipping pallets hung vertically so you can certainly hear your neighbors conversations if they are out there. We didn't find this too distracting, just of note. Almost everything you could need is provided - dishes, coffee, towels, cooking utensils, microwave and electric stovetop. I mostly used the wine glasses. The outside areas of the hotel are also lovely. Potted flowers, fresh mulch and palm trees decorate the outdoors. There's a shower on the first floor to wash off and sand acquired at the beach. Even in off season there are a few walkable restaurants and of course the pier with a gift shop. The contact with management/owner was very easy and professional. You get a parking pass so you don't have to worry about street parking. We were on the third floor and I don't believe there is an elevator, just of note.

The Cove Riverwalk Villas - Wilmington, NC…read more I stayed at The Cove Riverwalk Villas in January, right after the holidays, and it was the perfect post-holiday reset. The quiet along the Cape Fear River that time of year made it feel even more peaceful. My villa was absolutely spotless--everything felt fresh, and the living space was thoughtfully laid out. The design makes great use of the space, blending waterfront charm with modern comfort. Even in the winter, the setting is beautiful, with crisp mornings and soft sunsets over the water. It feels tucked away and serene, yet you're still just minutes from downtown Wilmington. If you're looking for a unique and relaxing waterfront stay--especially during the quieter winter months--this is a fantastic choice. I'd happily return.!

Everyone has their go to "vacation" place. Over the years we have visited Myrtle, Hilton Head,…read moreVegas and countless other locations and cruises. No matter how wonderful all of those trips have been our family will always hold a special place in our hearts for Bald Head Island. So here are the disclaimers: 1. If you are looking for putt putt golf and go carts...don't go here 2. If you are looking to eat out every night at a different restaurant...don't go here 3. If perfect cell service is a 100% must...don't go here 4. If you like being around a lot of people with the hustle and bustle...please don't go here. Bald Head Island is a secluded island off of Cape Fear NC. The only way to the island is by ferry after leaving your car on the main land. Once on the island there are golf cart like trams that take you and your luggage to the your home (rented or owned). The majority of the island is a nature preserve covered in trees and marsh land which is only disturbed by the pathways used by golf carts that bustle around the island carrying visitors to the Golf club, the Social Pool club, the Harbor or the beach. There is a grocery store, a couple clothing stores and a couple of restaurants on the island. For our family the allure is cooking dinner together at our rental then sitting around and playing board games and talking. Most of these are a lost art in daily life. Bald Head Island is so special that it caught the eye of Southern Living Magazine which built its annual design house on the island last year. For those who like excitement I suggest Myrtle Beach or Vegas. To reconnect with your family I fully endorse Bald Head Island.

(Some people in our group went to Carolina beach last year and they said it felt like a dive bar and Wrightsville Beach was much nicer. ) The sandwich shop next door had decent prepared sandwiches, coffee, and alcohol. We also had a good dinner at Oceanic across the street. The pool was very nice and never very busy. Our rooms were clean and the place was quiet (except for footsteps above). Each suite is individually owned so there was variability in the kitchen set up (e.g., full-sized fridge vs smaller, oven vs toaster oven, high table vs regular table) and decor of some units is more updated than others. Also, my unit had blackout drapes but others didn't. They also had beach chairs, beach towels, and sand toys available to use. WiFi was fast enough to upload pictures to social media but was slow for more data-heavy tasks. Breakfast is available in the lobby starting at 7:30. There are no tables to eat in the lobby but they have trays so that you can take the food back to your room. They had fresh fruit, juices, cold cereal, instant oatmeal, instant grits, packaged pastries, coffee (no decaf), and tea. Taphne and Steven were extremely nice and very helpful. Our reservations were complicated and changed at least twice and they were very accommodating. We booked directly (instead of booking dot com) and Taphne gave us a discount.

During our Christmastime stay we drove around the island and saw lots of deer and a few red foxes. Our babies were delighted. FYI, if you have small children, drive around in the golf cart with blankets during nap time. Our children napped for 2 hours while my husband & I enjoyed driving around the island. We came at Christmas and another time in January when the island is quieter, but we wouldn't hesitate coming during the summer to swim in the pool and ocean. Lots of scheduled activities during peak season.
