Our first surprise, the master suite had no closet for our use; the owner put a lock and sign on it saying Owner's Closet. We checked another bedroom and saw it was filled with all kinds of stuff that belonged to the owner, including blankets, sheets, towels, toys, etc There was only 1 closet available. We've rented vacation units before and saw closets with that kind of lock and sign on it but it was in the hallway. The owner of this unit had a lock and sign on the closet in the hallway too. I called Coastal Resort and was very disappointed in the manner they chose to handle the situation. It left us no other choice but to stay there all night because they claimed they couldn't contact the owner until morning. I told them the only acceptable solution would be to move us to another unit or refund our money. I got a Call the next morning saying the owner said there was a hook we could hang our clothes on, and they said the owner said she could send over instructions for the tvs that my husband couldn't get to work (my husband worked at QVC for 25 yrs., as a Quality Assurance Specialist, testing every kind of electrical device imaginable and never had a problem setting up something as simple as a tv). This was TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!!! We left the next day and found a beautiful unit at the Astoria vacation rental, so nice. It had everything Coastal Resorts didn't have with Triton's Trumpet (we stayed in a 2 bedroom unit yrs ago & it was more room in that unit than the 3 bedroom unit, and more modern, too). 201A unit even had an electric stove with coils, an antique to say the least. I haven't cooked on a stove like that in over 25 yrs and I didn't like it then. Needless to say I did a dispute with our CC company and I told my CC company I wanted every cent returned because we had a miserable night and our guests who had medical problems were not happy either. I don't usually do reviews but I don't want anyone to experience what we went through. I feel strongly that the owner of 201A Triton's Trumpet cares very little about guests who rent their unit and more about their own desires. There were also issues with the keys...we had to use 3 to get into the unit and they were not marked. Oh and how could I forget this, they had no loading carts to carry your things. The only thing Coastal Rentals would say about the closet situation is that it was in the owner's lease that they could put locks on the closets for their use. I got no reply to my question: How does your making things comfortable for the Owner help us with this terrible inconvenience we find ourselves in because of their gross negligence? I don't want anyone to go through this nightmare. Oh and by the way, the nice unit Astoria was rented via Shoreline Rentals and not only was the unit absolutely phenomenal but the staff were great!!!

Our rental (Sand Dollars in Holden Beach) was infested with roaches. There were roach traps full of…read moredead/living roaches. We watched them crawling on the counters, across the microwave, up from behind the oven. And somehow this wasn't the worst part of our stay. The worst part was the host, Coastal Vacation, and Charity Luv Parsons (the "manager") specifically. After originally confirming that they had 2 other homes available and would be able to move us which is all we asked for, they refused to help in any way. Ihad to get Airbnb involved, who sided in our favor, found us a hotel for the night, refunded our unused days and gave us a % off our replacement location. The women in the office were threatening, combative, and completely disrespectful. I have traveled extensively and this is the filthiest home I've ever stayed in with the worst customer service ve ever experienced in my life. My 5 year old daughter is traumatized by "The Roach's House."

Second update: was called by Amanda this morning 12/20/22 and told that since we made a complaint…read morewith the NC Attorney General's office about them trying to change the price after we signed a contract and because of this google review they were cancelling our booking. Stellar service from Amanda at Hobbs Realty. Also, if you see Sea Witch Cottage for a rental in Holden Beach for $3100 that is not the actual price and this will happen to you as well. They were trying to change our lease agreement from the $2282 they had it listed for when we booked it and signed our agreement to be for $4390. And the listing that went up today AFTER Amanda cancelled our booking is for $3143. Update 6:02 pm on 12/19pm. We just received an email from Hobbs Realty confirming our cancellation at 5:38pm, this is the third contact we received after they were closed for the day about this situation. We never asked for a cancellation. They did this being fully aware that we had contacted the NC Attorney General's office with a complaint. Beware, they had prices listed on their website on 12/9/22, we booked our trip and signed the rental contract, and were then called 2 days after we signed and told that the price was incorrect on both the website and our contract that was sent on 12/12 by $2108 plus taxes and fees and that they would not rent to us at the price in the signed contract. They also conveniently waited until after they were closed for the weekend to call us. We called first thing this morning and tried to figure out a solution and were told that we were rude and hostile (when you are trying not to cry) from the beginning of the call. Was also told that she didn't look for alternative options for us to rent since they don't have any options in our low budget. Literally never been made to feel like a smaller person in my life than within a few minutes of talking to Amanda on the phone today. 10/10 would not recommend renting through Hobbs

With one rental we needed a maintenance call to help with the pool and they came right over. The staff with whom we spoke were so courteous and helpful.

This review pertains to the property "Dune Life," located at 214 Ocean Blvd East, Holden Beach, NC…read more Lesson learned - if you see an exterminator at your vacation rental at check-in time you should go the other way! We arrived at Dune Life at our 4pm check-in time to find an exterminator truck parked in the driveway. We were immediately concerned to see this, so my husband inquired with the gentleman on site to find out what was going on. He stated that they were there for routine spraying and it was completely safe for us and our pets. We took him at his word but thought it was rather odd that a rental company would allow an exterminator to come at the same time guests are about to check-in... unless of course they were aware of a problem. The home itself was lovely - recently updated, very spacious, and appeared clean on the surface. However, there was one major issue - ROACHES!! After our group unloaded and settled in for the week, including unpacking our nearly $500 grocery order, we started to notice these disgusting pests surfacing throughout the evening. Roaches were found crawling on the counters, cabinets, walls, floors, and even on the sofa! I've attached a few pictures showing what we experienced. We also found ants crawling on the counters, but we know this is a more common problem that we could have tolerated. Once we realized there was likely a roach infestation in the home, we contacted Proactive Vacations early Sunday morning via the afterhours emergency email and phone number. They were quick to respond to our call. We worked with one of their property coordinators who was very professional and did her best to handle the situation by relocating us to another available home. The two options they offered us were not the best. The home we ultimately went with (the better of the two) was not comparable to the home we rented (e.g. Duplex versus house; 1 master bedroom versus 3, etc.), and the condition of the property was fair at best. We did not report all the issues we found with the replacement home because why bother - there were no alternative pet-friendly, oceanfront homes available. As such, we settled for the sake of being able to continue our vacation without further disruption. We had driven 6 hours with two dogs and knew our last-minute options were likely limited. At least the replacement home did not have roaches. The whole ordeal of having to pack up and relocate to another home was extremely disruptive to our vacation and really left us feeling stressed, frustrated, and misled about the pest situation in the home we rented. Proactive Vacations did credit my credit card for the difference in price of the rentals (as they should have!) since the replacement home was smaller and less expensive than the home we rented. However, they never responded to my request for a partial refund, nor did they offer any compensation for the inconvenience and wasted time we experienced having to move to another property. Instead, they made sure to charge us for the one night we stayed in the roach infested home. A top-notch rental company who cares about their guests would have offered compensation without question. We are honest people who just wanted to enjoy a vacation that was interrupted due to no fault of our own. We were the only ones inconvenienced by this situation, yet we are stuck paying full price for a vacation rental that we didn't choose and was less than ideal for our needs. Despite this unfortunate experience with Proactive Vacations, we still love Holden Beach and will return again in the future. Next time, we won't be using this rental company.

The amount of gook in the filters and water arms of the dishwasher would be considered a health hazard! Had a ceiling leak that drenched a lower floor mattress and clothing and no on would come out and service the issue that night so people had to sleep on couches. A pocket door on the stairway was sooo filthy with built up dirt and mold because somehow the property manager was unaware the door even existed he also didn't know that dishwashers have filters to be cleaned!!!! the house is misrepresented in the photos being new and pristine and furniture was different. The customer service was non existent and rude when they did contact and wanted to blame my family for the leak which was actually caused by the cleaning crew that had to come back and ran the water in the shower. The mattresses are extremely cheap noisy and uncomfortable. My family has vacationed on Holden Beach for 32 years, had always used Hobbs or Alan Holden realty, they are tried and true and never had such maintenance issues EVER! If the home owner is already aware of these issues they should be embarrassed if they aren't someone should make them aware. so i'm sure it's obvious I will never use Proactive again and you shouldn't either! look at other reviews!
