We went there on Saturday night after dinner to have a few drinks and dance. Overall we had a…read moregreat time until the female bar tender was rude and had the nerve to ask my boyfriend "what is your problem" and told him he was giving her "attitude " all night. When he responded to her that she was being a complete "Bi@%H", she motioned over to the "security" guy, who aggressively came over to "throw" us out (A group of 6- 3 couples). Let me preface with we had been there for a few hours and had spent a lot of money at the bar and every time we went to the bar the female bar tender was completely miserable. Should my boyfriend have called her out of her name, probably not; however what happened next was absolutely uncalled for and honestly I'm appalled. As my boyfriend was being asked to leave by this time several security employees have surrounded him (mind you we are of no threat to anyone), they began to push and shove all of us out the door, when I turned around and told one of them to calm down we were leaving he pushed me and got in my face yelled "GET OUT -LEAVE". Now when I say in my face, I mean nose to nose. Disgusting behavior. Completely disgusting behavior- If you as a bartender and do not have the mentality capacity to work behind the bar and deal with people drinking, then get another profession. Furthermore, to the Security punks who think they are in the movie Roadhouse, you need some more professional and behavioral training. If you cannot walk over to a human being and ask someone to leave before getting physical you should not be working in this type of environment. I guess we should expect more then what we received since we were in dive bar. No one was refusing to leave, we were happy to leave, there was no need for any of this.

We initially were going to a sports bar across the street when Whiskey and Ashe caught our eye. What a great find and experience. Spoiler alert I like cigars and bourbon and Whiskey and Ashe exceeded my expectations. They have a wall of bourbon and rye plus and additional spirits and beer for non-brown liquor drinkers. since we were the only ones in the bar our bartender took excellent care of us. We had many samples and the local Louisiana Seven Three Distillery rye was one of my favorites. If you want a smoke they have a fully stocked humidor and cigar specials. There is a very comfortable outside area with TVs. We all agreed that if Whiskey and Ashe were in our area, we would live here! Since we were ride sharing we spent the afternoon here, ordered food from next door and shared it with our bartender/bourbon guide. Plus one is now a bourbon drinker (sort of) as she was introduced to a bourbon espresso martini. Wow, it was delicious.! Our bartender, Griffin, was young but so knowledgeable and he expertly guided us through our tastings. Pro tip: If Griffin your bartender tell him the folks from Austin said he needs to tell you his apple joke.

Staff is super friendly. Drinks are very reasonably priced. Tuesdays is taco Tuesday and ladies night is on Saturdays. Great place to have drink after a long day.

In fact, until my trip to Heidelberg's I had never been to a bar in the camellia city. While I don't know that I will ever become a regular, I did have a fun time. The Old Town section of the city is interesting. There are several bars that appeared to cater to very different clientele. One bar seemed super shady and there were large groups of youth milling about outside. Heidelberg's seemed to cater to a slightly older crowd from its outward appearance, but once I entered I realized there were people of all ages, and all walks of life. I will attempt to set the scene for you by describing some of the highlights. The Dance Floor The DJ was playing some interesting tunes, but focused his set on rap, especially local rap. The highlight of the evening was watching a Jesse Pinkman look-a-like flailing about to Juvenile's Back That Ass Up. The Bar Heidelberg's has a large circular bar. Service was fairly prompt despite the bar being packed. There were several distinctly different groups seated and standing around the bar. Along the left was a group of woo girls and woo guys. I have no idea what they were talking about, but their frequent shouting of "woo" was very stereotypical behavior. Along the rear of the bar was an older group, including some rather creepy dude who wouldn't stop staring at me. I realize I am a giant lummox, but it is not polite to stare. Next to the creeper was a redneck looking guy wearing overalls, but no shirt. His pasty white "guns" were definitely drawing attention from the ladies, but his lack of shirt was a wee bit disturbing once he relocated directly next to me. Normally these varying groups of people would not get along or frequent the same place. Somehow at Heidelberg's they all got along. There is something to be said for a bar that can bring people together. After leaving around closing time I did notice lots of cops circling the area. I guess they were looking for drunks, but there presence made me feel very safe. If you're looking for a friendly bar in Slidell, I encourage you to check out Heidelberg's.
