I've had a lot of problems with the left-wing bias of the Washington Post over the last couple years, but this column was the last straw. Pathetic customer service and record keeping. Continues to call me for "payment" weeks after payment was made. Tells me the $98 was credited for a monthly payment, not yearly. Spent over 2 hours (4 calls) in the last two months just trying to keep my 89 year old father getting this paper. (Old school - loves the real paper and crossword puzzle) If it was just for me - I would have cancelled years ago due to horrible customer service & record keeping. After "finding" my payment, she tells me she's not authorized to change it and that I have to call customer service and have them mark it as a yearly payment. read more

It's a good newspaper. The issue isn't with the content, the problem is with the fact that they'll take your money but still not make it possible for you to access the content. I don't meet many computers that I can't get along with but the WP website is obnoxious to the hilt. I used to get the paper for the advertisements, but even that has declined. I guess business are paying money to publications that people actually read. Unfortunately, I can't expect balanced coverage of the news because they are so one sided. I hate having particular views fed to me like some clown. I am 45 and have never gotten a daily paper that was not digital in my entire life. WTF!! Delivery jobs must be extremely hard to fill in the 21st century because there is probably no hourly compensation and no compensation for gas etc etc etc. On top of that people who deliver the post get paid pennies per paper they deliver. Working on volume like that makes a sorry case for getting it on your doorstep every morning (its more likely to end up in the bushes or somewhere on your wet lawn that is hard to reach or on the public sidewalk were it'll get stolen). I am very familiar with some of my neighbors experiences with delivery. I simply suggest that if you want the Washington post GET THE DIGITAL VERSION (it is identical to the print version and I read it on a 60in flat screen monitor every morning) plus you don't get bloody ink all over your hands. You don't get awakened at an ungodly hour by the damn thing (especially Sunday) crashing your door...I don't even get delivery and I heard the 25 pound Sunday edition SLAM ONTO my next door neighbors front porch (a broad wooden porch) and my bedroom window is 20 feet away. It sounded like an explosion. However if you are 60 to 80 years old (like our parents). Its REALLY HARD to switch to an all digital world. In my opinion the print version of the Post and all papers for that matter should definitely be made obsolete for but the few who still need it because they are not giving in to technology and want things as they were back in the 50s. read more

I signed up for a trial of the Sunday paper. I paid upfront and was never told that I would need to call and cancel not was I given any info on how to cancel. I ended up receiving a phone call saying that I owed money for my subscription. I asked the representative to cancel my subscription and I pay the nominal fee that was due. Two months later I received another phone call and I refused to pay because I had already requested cancellation. The post is running a huge scam and extorting money from its customers. read more

My father (94yrs old) who is now living in a senior apartment and I have been Wash Post (WP) subscribers all our lives. The daily subscription rate at regular cost was astronomical. I discovered 2 yrs ago that they had a senior rate (I'm over 65) for $99 a yr for home delivery. They honored mine and when I called to do the same for my father, the person from a call center maybe in a foreign country said YES only for me to find out that they no longer offer that deal. I reluctantly paid the more expensive "discount" and tried to do the same for my father only to find out that WP cannot "combine" my father's account with mine so I can pay the bill...wtf? So, in cross emails back and forth, this alleged customer service person, Kim Penialber, won't escalate my request to try to get this resolved as my father is: 1. 94 yrs old and is on a limited budget. I want to pay for his expensive subscription but I cannot add his account to my account. 2. My father was paying the regular "over the counter" if you don't ask for a discount, you're not getting one rate almost all his life. 3. Is not and will not embrace technology. He has a flip phone he forgets to know how to use if he's out and there's an emergency. Many people have tried to get him on a desktop/laptop, and he's just too scared and confused to want to learn. So, when WP said they could only set up accounts in separate emails, I lost it. There are people out there that don't know about technology and are old enough that they still deal with a landline and they don't have the budget to "embrace" new technology. WP sucks in customer service, sucks at doing good rates. For all the things WP promotes about being a good fair paper, they want to suck $$$ from the customer just like other big businesses. read more

I have been a loyal customer of the Washington Post for over 40 years. I have retired, and I am on a very limited income. I cannot afford the new rate I'm being charged. I've asked for an extension of a promotional rate, and I was informed that was not possible. The new rate is 100% higher, than my present payment. So, I asked for some alternative. I have been told this is not possible. So, my loyalty is unappreciated. And, I'm cancelling my very long time subscription. I hope someone at the Post reads this and makes changes, in their unfair policies. read more

If you are calling to cancel your subscription, ask for a supervisor immediately because the customer service rep does NOT take no for an answer. Asked 10 times to have my subscription cancelled before losing my cool. Supervisor got on the phone and I still had to ask 3 more times to cancel subscription. Be prepared to spend a good 30 minutes or more trying to cancel a subscription. Horrible, horrible customer service. No respect. Good luck! read more

I have finally canceled my subscription. Yes, I was the only person under 40 I knew who still subscribed to a daily paper. I believe in the importance of the daily newspaper in American life, but sadly I cannot support the Post any longer. All I ask for is objective, unbiased reporting, but the Post seems to have an agenda about everything. I just couldn't bring myself to read another ridiculous article about the Redskins name change or Courtland Milloy constantly race baiting about everything. I have repeatedly attempted to cancel the Washington post paper delivery. Endless time on their 'customer service ' line to no avail. It is continually dropped at the end of our driveway . We have not paid for nor had a subscription for the paper in over a year! It has now become a security issue for us . We travel a great deal and have taken great pains to make sure our home appears occupied when away but the pile of papers at the end of our drive is a dead give away for burglars! Yelp requires that you hit a star to write a review but I would give the Washington Post neg stars if possible! read more

Being double charged and over-charged for my online subscription. I like the post and i subscribe to the digital version. I was shocked when I discovered that my bill had been hugely increased without warning and that i was double billed. There seems to be a lot of this going on. This review is for the WaPo billing department and customer service. They both are terrible. On multiple occasions, I have had charges added to my credit card on file without notification. This has happened on more than one occasion. If I were a native Hindi speaker, perhaps I could get my concerns addressed properly through the off-shore based billing department. The articles are so polarized left and anti President Trump they have become ridiculous. One of the most unprofessional examples of journalism I have ever read. Ay ya ya! WashPost just doesn't get it! One year later: 2016. Just as I expected the $25 rate was increased to $32. And again no notice, nothing, zilch! I can tell you that the W Post web site is still the same as it was: totally useless, meaning I could not resolve anything online. Post is owned by the tech fellow who owns Amazon and a few other little companies! You'd think he could afford a good web site for such a prestigious paper! I wonder when he might run for President! Before calling customer service I checked the Post web site and sure enough on their landing page I was offered a rate of $92/year for both print and digital subscription. Now that's roughly $14 per 8 weeks. Which prompted me to ask myself "what gives here ... why am I (the 20 year customer) paying $32 per 8 weeks?" Time to call Customer Service. Knowing the usual press 1, press 3, press #, with all options still the same as last year, I finally got to a human unit hailing from the Philippines! After the usual superficial "sorry for the inconvenience crap" I asked for an explanation of the rate change. The rep said "all I can do is to cancel your subscription or renew your subscription." I asked if he was able to see my subscription rate and he said he could not get into my account. After a few other questions I noticed the rep must be reading text from his training manual- yes it was that obvious. Let me explain by listing a few of the questions: Q. Can you see my rate? A. I am sorry for the inconvenience. I can check your subscription and delivery for you. Q. That's not what I need. Can you please explain why my rate was increased? A. I apologize. I can take your payment over the phone. Q. That's not what I asked. Can you see my rate was $25 and it's now $32? A. I am sorry for the inconvenience. I am not allowed to access your account. How can I help you? Q. OK, thanks. It would be easier if you tell me what you are able to do. A. Silence ... [my guess was he was looking for the answer] ... then, "I apologize for the inconvenience. I can help you with your payment, cancellation, or stop service." I asked to talk to a supervisor and after a few minutes "light, camera, action" the supervisor answered. I explained my frustration about the rate hike, argued that Post offers a very low $92 per year and why is it that I am being overcharged? I was given the usual "this is an introductory offer ... only for new customers ... I can't give this to you ...." and total sales 101 non-sense excuses. I find it amazing that in 2016, with digital taking over everything, dinosaur print media like the Post still act as if it is 1976. After stating that "if Post does not want me as a long time loyal customer then we have to go our separate ways" the supervisor said "I can give you the $92 per year rate." So I am now on the $92/year for one year. You might ask: if this is how the Post behaves why are you sticking with them!? And the answer is my wife still likes the printed version even though we also think their content has moved way to the right with the likes of crazy zealots like Jennifer Rubin. You could also ask: is it worth spending all this time to get $100 back? First, even a dollar is worth it; but most importantly it's the principal of it and how these big corps milk people a dollar here and a dollar there. And I'll have my experience about Verizon later. Bottom line, again: Washington Post customer service is a big FAIL. Michael Dukakis once said "when the fish rots it rots from the head." Do not under any circumstance is get the digital edition. If you need to cancel it is a nightmare. You have to call them and talk to one of their representatives, available only in restricted hours. They will put you on hold two or three times and make you speak to somebody whose command of American English is questionable. They will grill you about why you want to cancel. The Washington Post makes my world go round. I cannot say enough good things about it. An admirably balanced editorial board. Best political coverage. Significant and decent international coverage. Style is hilarious and fun. Love Robin Ghivan, she is spot-on and provocative (mostly). Love the special sections that change every day, Health being my favorite. Remains stable, but always has something new going on. All this for just 35 cents, $1.50 on Sundays. There ain't nothing you can buy that is that CHEAP and that RICH. read more

On January 20th, I received a THIRD letter from my carrier soliciting for a holiday top. The letter reads, in part, "Those customers who have not done it yet and those who are still in the process of sending me their warm wishes are kindly requested to do so at your earliest convenience (and preferably before all the New Year sales are over for my shopaholic wife!!!!!!!)" I am disgusted by this crass harassment of customers to send money, and can't believe the Post allows its carriers to do this. read more

No complaints about the product, just my horrible experience with "customer service." I've been a home delivery recipient since 1980 without interruption. About four years ago, they started offering the 85% discount if you signed up for 9 months worth of service, prepaid for $58 or $7.50 a month. I've done this numerous times without complaint until last October. I gave them my card information and they either did not run it or they screwed up processing it. A month later I get a sketchy call from a random number and sume dude tells me he is from the Post and wanted my credit card ingformation. No idea who this guy is or whether it was a scam, so I told him if he was from the Post to email me. I never heard back from him and never gave it a thought The paper stopped a couple days ago and I called Sunday morning to find out why. Someone with an extraordinarily thick accent got belligerent with me and said I owed $142 for 85 days worth of delivery; I explained that the Post obviously messed this up, and asked for the supervisor, who sounded like the same person. I asked for the manager of the call center, and she said there was no manager (lie) and when I pressed she said "Let me get them" put me on hold and then hung up on me. I sent an email to the Post today and they blamed me for their mistake. IO asked for that person's supervisor and they have not bothered to get back to me. Thanks Post, you lost me as a customer and guess what? My four daughters are czncelling as well. read more

The news is excellent, but the customer service is nil and the refund policy absurd. Their policy is that there is no refund. If you paid for a year, then if you cancel the next day, it doesn't go into effect until "the next billing cycle." Also, I just spent 40 minutes on the phone in three calls trying to get to a customer service rep who could spell my name - which is a quite common US name. I spelled it slowly and carefully over 8 times in these conversations, and EVERY time, it was repeated back to me incorrectly. Unbelievable. read more

I have also had a horrid experience with the Washington Post subscription service/customer service. Here is a copy of the email I sent to them... Hello, I was a recent subscriber to the Post. I enjoyed the papers I was able to read, but since I didn't have time to read them very often, I decided that I would discontinue my subscription when it expired. However I discovered a charge on my credit card that I did not authorize for an unwanted continuation of my subscription on March 16. I called to cancel my unwanted renewal and request a refund of the unauthorized charge to my credit card. My subscription was promptly canceled, however I've had to call customer service three times as of today to ask why I have not received my refund when I originally requested it almost a full month ago. When I call I get the same answer... "soon." The situation became way worse when I discovered today that the telemarketer who has been calling my cell phone up to three times EVERY DAY was someone from the Post asking me to renew my subscription! I have been receiving (and ignoring) calls from this same phone number for weeks and today I finally answered to ask your representatives to stop calling. I am APPALLED that your company does not have the time or manpower to process my long-awaited refund and yet has plenty of time and manpower to call my phone up to three times EVERY DAY for WEEKS to ask me to renew. Your customer service is the absolute worst that I have encountered in a very long time. read more

Now I see them posting huge articles denouncing Mr. Sanders and lauding Mrs. Clinton. This whole affair will be why I will never come to the Post for news anymore. Washington Misleading Subscription Offer I just discovered how to obtain a complete Sunday only subscription to the Washington Post for one year, including the TV Book at their advertised price of $.79 per week including delivery in Thanksgiving Day. Note their fine print excludes the inclusion of the TV Book in their offer. The solution is to speak to a supervisor in their customer service department. The direct phone number is 1-800-477-4679. To reach a live person press "0" three times. This will get you to a first level person. Ask for a supervisor. When connected to a supervisor offer your purchase of the Sunday Washington Post subscription only if it includes their TV Book. You will get many reasons why the Post cannot do this. If the Post will not offer the Sunday Post under your terms advise the Post supervisor that you deem their marketing practices unethical to advertise a mailing offer of $.79 plus tax per week for a "Sunday Washington Post". This newspaper should be the same paper that one could normally purchase over the counter. Yet the offer being made excludes the TV Book. The bottom line is the Post is not offering their complete Sunday Washington Post but one missing a section normally included. Tell her you deem this practice unethical and constitutes misleading advertising. Advise the Post that you again make the offer and if they cannot make an exception, you will post their outrageous exhibit of unethical behavior and false advertising in the available Internet social media outlets, including Facebook, Twitter, Yelp, etc. The supervisor should then accept your offer. Before you subscribe ask for an e-mail to document this offer, Only when you receive this-mail from the Post should you call furnish your subscription information to them. read more

My favorite newspaper in the country. I live in Boston now, and can only receive the digital version (waaah!). The Washington Post is a fantastic paper, with some of the best local coverage I've ever read. I like how the Post covers issues more relevant to the average person than the New York Times, and the quality of writing and coverage is far superior to the big papers in Chicago and Boston, the other two cities I've lived in. I've written to the editors/writers, and have found them to be responsive, fair and open-minded. I loved receiving the print edition, especially the Sunday paper, and look forward to traveling to DC to grab a copy. read more

I am finshed! Learned that even though we placed paper on "vacation stop" we were still charged because the paper is available to us electronically! Never told and never accessed it. The staff were less than helpful today and when I advised I was cancelling they offered a promotional rate......such pimps! I have paid in advance thinking it would get credited for newspapers once we returned from vacation - not so It is used to pay for electronic access that I never used OR wanted. They don' care, period. I haven't had a delivery in 3 weeks, and I was made to feel the blame. A half hour (plus) later, the supervisor said they could adjust the credit on my next bill and re-deliver OLD papers (what?!). That's called a waste of time --and taking me for granted.
