The Waltons Hotel was the key element in making my trip to Nottingham pleasant and successful. I was in town (from America) for an outpatient medical procedure, which left me largely confined for about four days. More so than a typical vacationer, I was reliant on the comfort of the room, the care of the staff, the restaurant and room service.
I stayed in two rooms for the week I was there, changing to a single-bed room on my last night. The rooms are cozy, small in comparison to a modern hotel. They are comfortable, excepting only the desk chairs. Don't expect to sit at the desk in comfort for very long, business travelers. The bathrooms in both rooms were nicely appointed, and spotless. The hotel is heated by a boiler (radiators), so you'll never run short on hot water at any time of day.
The staff is accustomed to caring for patients of the nearby clinic, and did everything in their power to ensure that I was comfortable and well fed while recuperating. They were attentive and accommodating in their dealings with other guests and patrons, as far as I saw.
The service I received in the restaurant and as room service simply was perfect. I dined in the restaurant my first night in. The dining room really is quite beautiful. The service is respectfully formal, but welcoming and not at all stiff or stuffy.
The food at The Waltons is the single best reason to choose this hotel. It's clear that the ingredients are selected with care. The preparations were consistent; I had a few of the dishes more than once during my stay, and each was excellent. Presentation of the meals is very good, even when having to fit within the confines of a room-service tray. Simple dishes were also remarkable: I found the cod-&-chips here to be even better than at Kate Mantilini's in Beverly Hills (my prior favorite).
Nottingham has the usual selection of chain hotels, but I will choose The Waltons again when I return. read more
