Somewhat of a disappointing first visit to the Village Diner this Father's Day. It seemed as though the young staff had difficulty with turning tables. People would get up and pay, and took quite some time before any of the staff that we're just standing around, took the time to clear the table and prep it for the next party ((who were all waiting to be seated - we were second in line with many after us)). It was well over a half an hour to be seated when we were quoted 5 to 10 minutes and three tables up and left with their table sitting uncleared as we all waited patiently in the rain. Our food was decent, but served cold, but at that point, we really just wanted to satisfy our hunger and get on with celebrating the main man of the day. We chalked it up to a busy holiday so I didn't want to rush online to write a substandard review without giving them another chance. So, we came back again during the week to give it a fair assessment. We sampled the breakfast sandwiches that were on their specials that include coffee/tea. The verdict... basic. Our waitress today was super lively and eager to serve. With a pep in her step we wished she had been here to rally the troops on Sunday. Our drinks were brought out quickly and our sandwiches.... were... sandwiches I'd like to say more, but there's not much to say. The Village Diner definitely did not live up to what I expected from a Keswick village restaurant. It could definitely benefit from a deep, thorough cleaning as the windows looked as though it has been a long time since they were cleaned. The windowsills peeling and an overall state of age and neglect throughout the small cramped diner. I wanted to be positive and I wanted to give them a fair chance, but after two times with less than satisfying meal, I would be hesitant to recommend and definitely would not be returning.

Hash browns with eggs, cheese sausage and peppers and onions

Good food in your usual diner atmosphere with a Very sweet waitress and hostess. Came for a late breakfast a few days after Christmas. 15 minute wait, which is expected in a not overly large diner. Atmosphere: Mostly booth seating with about a 10 person counter seating area. All your usual diner food options and you can order anything on the menu anytime of the day. Food: Coffee pot on the table which is great! Club sandwich with lots of meat, comes with potato chips, nice and tasty! Can't recall the exact name but the plate wjith the hash browns, eggs, peppers and onions, sausage and cheese! Comes with toast and husband loved it.

A neighborhood gem with some of the best, fluffiest, butteriest (if that's a word) pancakes around!!! I love the community vibe of this diner and always look forward to their pancakes.

The Village Sampler (part 2)

Decided to come here for breakfast today since my boyfriend and I both had the day off. What a cute place! Our waitress was wonderful! Hot coffee came right to our table after we ordered it! I had the village sampler: eggs, toast, home fries, pancakes or French toast and bacon and sausage. Yes, my eyes were bigger then my stomach which I learned half way though my meal! Everything was really good! My boyfriend got a short stack of blueberry pancakes with a side of sausage and said that were really good and they were a nice size (not small at all).

The service is fast and efficient. The food is basic at best, not much flavor. The coffee was fresh.

Menu

Has a very nice breakfast. The Early Bird Special, from 8:00-9:00 weekdays is a good deal.

Vegetable Sandwich. Ordered with provolone but its clearly American

Used to be a regular here when I worked from home because I live right down the street, but after this past visit, its likely to be my last. I expected the wait on a Sunday around noon, so no surprise there, but what first ticked me off is that people who came in after me got seated, ate, and left before me and they were just walk-in's like me. Finally I get seated and another 15 minutes pass until my waitress finally takes my beverage order. Wait another 15 minutes just to get a glass of water and tomato juice and to put in my order. I asked for the soup specials, and go figure the waitress disappears for another 15-20 minutes before letting me know. At this point, shes practically ignoring all her tables and all the customers are looking at each other thinking "would it be faster to go up to the counter and order?" So I finally get my food after 45 mins or so and go figure its luke warm, they gave me american instead of provolone cheese like I ordered, and she forgot my side of sauce. I would have asked for another water but good lord, who has time for that at this point. The only thing she was quick at bringing me was my check (surprise there!). According to my receipt, my waitress' name was Caleigh. Well I certainly do not recommend sitting in her section if you come to Village Diner

Belgium Waffle with chocolate chips

Adorable diner in Glenside. My mom and I stopped here for breakfast this morning. We both enjoyed our meals. I had a Belgium waffle with chocolate chips. My mom got a breakfast sandwich which she enjoyed. Our waitress was amazing and attentive. She was very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. Prices aren't too bad and the portion sizes are decent. We both would love.to come back.

Stuffed heavenly homefries

Stuffed homefries. The end. Fine....keep reading... I'm not going to lie...at first glance this looks like any other diner you've ever been to in your life....including the fact that they will serve regulars before people who have clearly been standing there waiting. And trust me, we waited....and waited...and then just sat at the counter. But I guess that was a good thing because it gave me some perspective on what to order. Food to ALWAYS order: My fiance and I ordered the breakfast sampler that brought pancakes, eggs, sausage, crispy potatoes, bacon, and toast...aka a meal for 4 for like $10 measely bucks. Yes we had food left over. The pancakes are nice and fluffy and delicious...and I'm not much of a pancake lover. And then there were the homefries. They were crisy potato slices, smothered in oozing cheese, topped with meaty bacon and garnished with fresh scallions. Yes, clean the saliva off your chin. Oh and the food is piled on high -- so make sure you share or starve yourself before coming...and then starve yourself afterwards to make sure you don't have a heart attack. Come here, now.

I was in the Jenkintown area for work and turned to Yelp to find a local lunch spot--that's when I…read morediscovered Welcome Home Café, and wow, what a powerful little café it turned out to be. As soon as I walked in, I was warmly greeted by one of the owners. It's a husband-and-wife team, which always earns bonus points in my book. I was promptly seated, given a menu, and immediately overwhelmed--in the best way--because everything sounded amazing. I ended up asking the owner for help deciding, and I'm so glad I did. I chose the chicken and dumpling soup (they rotate specialty soups weekly) and a loaded sweet potato. The soup was incredibly flavorful--slightly saltier than my personal preference, but thankfully I tasted it before adding anything. The thyme flavor really stood out and made the dish comforting and delicious. I'd absolutely recommend it if it's available when you visit. The loaded sweet potato was topped with jerk chicken, one of my favorite seasonings. You can adjust the heat, and I went with how it comes--very hot! I loved it. Spicy, bold, and full of flavor, with the sweet potato cooked to perfection. They also offer unsweetened, fresh-brewed iced tea with free refills, which is always a huge plus for me. The café itself is small, but while I was there, there was a steady flow of people coming and going--it's clearly a popular hometown spot. Everything on the menu looked fantastic, so I'll definitely be making a return trip to try something new. They serve both breakfast and lunch, and they also offer catering, which makes this spot even more appealing whether you're stopping in for a quick meal or looking to feed a group. If you're in Jenkintown, I highly recommend stopping by Welcome Home Café. You won't regret it.

We ordered our food and it didn't take long to come out. My husband and I took full advantage while our kids were in school on a Friday morning. It was busy but was a constantly flow. It's a smaller place and didn't feel crowded at anytime we were there. My husband ordered French Toast and a Sausage egg and cheese sandwich. I ordered a steak omelet with veggies. Everything came out hot and we enjoyed it. My favorite was the hot tea, they have different options of flavors that most diners don't have. I had a ginger honey tea. It was really good. I would definitely go back for breakfast again.

Mama's Diner was a solid find. I had heard about their chicken and waffles while I was at work, and…read moresince I happened to be right across the street, I had to try it. The atmosphere was really nice with a cozy, laid-back vibe, though it is a small space and the booths are open, so expect people passing close by. Cashier Lady is pretty nice over the phone but when you arrive it definitely feels like they're rushing to get your money not knowing if your order is completed yet. Had two issues where I came and told them my order. They said it was done coming right up. I paid and they had me standing there for 10 minutes. The food definitely delivered--chicken breast cooked perfectly and the waffles were on point. Portions felt a little small for the price, but the flavor made up for it. I'd recommend it if you're nearby and looking for a good breakfast spot--definitely try the chicken and waffles (no eggs needed).
