Willibald Farm Distillery & Brewery - Gin

Willibald Farm Distillery & Brewery is a great spot for a "get together and hangout for hours" sort…read moreof place. Their location is out on a working farm and distillery so it is out of the way via a country road. Their restaurant is great with indoor and outdoor patio seating. Would recommend indoor due to flies and weather. Their drinks are very good and their food surprisingly excellent for a place that's mainly a distillery. We were here as a group of 6 and ordered a bit of everything. Our order: - Caesar Salad (decently sized, everyone got some) - Mushroom Pappardelle (excellent sauce and very silky, every pasta noodle had loads of sauce, the best part of the meal) - Bee Sting (great pizza, comparable with places that just focus on pizza) - Cheese Monger (all the cheese pizza) - Truffle Funghi (not too strong of truffle, just enough and it all came together nicely) - Ontario Burratini (a great bread + dip with peaches, second best part of the meal) Drinks: - Gin Mule (basically a Moscow mule but with Gin) - Spritz (cherry) The service was amazing, food started coming out around 10 mins after ordering. Ordering did take a while as they were quite busy. The attached store sold their brand of drinks, some of which you only could get there. Lots of customers came and went with cases of drinks. We got some gin to bring home as well. They have a drinks stall at St. Jacob's if you are in the area (no restaurant though). For a distillery, not only do they have great drinks, but all their food seems well thought out and a great choice all on its own. The only con is that they are pretty out of the way, but worth the day trip. They have ample parking and you can hangout on the lawn for as long as you like. They have an outdoor bar as well as corn hole and tables for you to hangout at. Board games and picnic blankets encouraged.

The service was excellent, the server made every effort to get to know our names and was very attentive. We ordered a number of dishes, including the funghi pizza and the chicken cutlet. We also got a number of drinks, including their large selection of beer and the delicious gin cocktails. We sat out on their patio, which was lovely. I had a wonderful time and I'm looking forward to coming back for the amazing food and beautiful farm!

I was a regular at Block 3 when I lived in Waterloo. Well, if I'm honest, I was there all the time…read moreand they should have charged me rent. You might think beer was my primary motivation, and in the beginning it was. Block 3 is a small batch craft brewery that delivers on tasty beer. They generally have ten to twelve beers on tap ranging from lagers, ales, sours and sometimes a stout. They are all delicious in their own right although drinking barrel aged fruited sours is an acquired taste in my book, but trust me try them and you may learn to love them. But why else should you go? There is limited food (it's a brewery not a restaurant), no TV's to watch the game, a steady stream of classic rock playing in the background, kids running around and a few dogs to greet you on the way in. To make matters worse the cell reception is awful, my wife always had a hard time reaching me. Hmm, maybe that's not all bad... What kind of place is this, anyway? It's a modern twist on an old fashioned FAMILY oriented brewery, that's what! There are plenty of board games to play, the local regulars are always happy to share some stories, and the staff are the coolest people around. They have a great Mug Club and if you are lucky you get your own hand-thrown pottery mug with your name on it! Very cool... As I mentioned in one of my check-ins, Block 3 is a benchmark craft brewery experience. I can't recommend this place highly enough,

Look for specialties like rouladen, schnitzel, sauerbraten and more. Since it is close to the holidays they have a roast duck special for the month of December (yum!). Prices are very reasonable and service is friendly and knowledgeable. They also are licensed so lots of options for beer, wine etc. We had the duck and schnitzel. Soooo good. The duck came with red cabbage and potato patties. The schnitzel came with home fries and steamed vegetables ( although you could have spatzle if you liked). Please note that even though their online menu shows a variety of salads for those who want lighter fare - the menu handed to us did not show those options. My friend was however able to order a Caesar salad with a grilled chicken breast which she said was wonderful. Her hubby had the rouladen. All the meals were great. We were covering the Black Forest cake at the end but could not do it ( the portions being very generous) so we took some slices to go! Great choice as it was delicious. Note- if you are small portion eaters think about sharing a meal or be prepared to take a good amount home with you!

And the offerings on their website sounding interesting! The brewery itself is in a blue building and there is a small bottle shop as you enter through a garage door opening. As you approach the building, there are a bunch of picnic tables around the outside. (Not sure what they're gonna do when the weather gets cooler as the indoor area doesn't seem that large for seating.) As I walked into the bottle shop, there was some meditation music playing in the background. So the mood was quite chill. I think I startled the only guy who was working in the brewery at the time. He said that they specialise in small batch lagers & ales. He offered me a couple of samples which was very nice of him! He said the biergarten is only open during the weekends. So I don't think they offer pints normally during the week?? The samples I got were WHIFF & another one. I was fully intending on purchasing something, but when I looked up the directions to my event, it seemed a lot further than I thought. So I had to leave. What is worth mentioning and the -1* is that most of their cans are only sold in a pack of 4! So unlike many breweries, you cannot just buy an array of cans. I'd definitely go back especially if I wasn't in a rush to be elsewhere.
