I was recently in the market for a carbon road bike. I was pretty weary from visiting one bike shop after another that only carried Trek bikes, or had limited bikes in stock, or had terrible customer service. But I decided to try one more dealer, Tailwind, because I saw that they carried Scott and Jamis bikes, two bikes that I hadn't tried yet. When I entered the shop, I was immediately greeted by a salesperson, who showed me around and explained their selection. After asking me a few questions, he introduced me to Chad, who showed me the custom made Cinelli Pro Estrada. What a gorgeous bike. So much prettier than the Trek bikes I rode. I took the Cinelli for a test ride around the streets of Schwenksville. For the most part, the surrounding streets are safe for test rides, although I had to cross busy Rt. 29. The area is very hilly, if you like to test out a bike on hills. The shop is also adjacent to the Perkiomen Trail, if you prefer to test a bike on flat terrain. I loved the Cinelli, and at the sale price, it was right in my price range. Once Chad threw in a free bike fitting, I couldn't resist. I had to endure a lot of shopping to get to this point, but in the end I got a lot more bike for my money than I would have gotten anywhere else. They weren't yet available at the time I was shopping, but Tailwind has since added Pinarello bikes to their selection. Pinarello is another brand that was high on my list, and I haven't seen it offered anywhere else. As a follow-up note, I was having some shifting issues with the Cinelli, but I brought it back to the shop, explained the problem, and the owner, Joe, corrected the problem within a few minutes, free of charge. Joe also fitted me to my bike, and now I am one happy rider.

I've taken my bike here on several occasions to get it tuned up, fixed, or for whatever cycling accoutrement I might need. The service has always been speedy and efficient. There has only been one time that I've had to bring my bike back there to fix a problem a second time. What happened was that I my front tire went flat for some reason that I wasn't aware of. I brought it in, and they replaced the tube. I went out, rode it, and the tire wen flat again. Long story short, they overlooked a tiny sliver of metal that was jabbing into the tube. Thankfully, though, they removed the shard and the inner tube at no extra charge. While they have great service, they also have a really nice selection of equipment. They carry just about every style of bike that would make sense. They also have nice selection of just about everything you need for your bike. The selection of goods isn't the thing that makes it good. The service is what makes this place great.

I bought my first real [expensive] bike from Bikeworks almost 3 years ago now. Although the…read moreselection is not as big as some bike stores, they have a great variety of quality brands: Bianchi, Trek, Fuji, Seven, just to name a few. You can't go wrong with any of them. Bikeworks has all types of bikes as well; anything from cruisers to tri, mountain to road....and for nutcases like me, cyclocross. Also, know that their website doesn't list all of the bikes that they sell, so don't be discouraged if you aren't enamored with what you see there. The best part is that when you decide to buy a bike from Bikeworks they put you on their fitting machine for free. It is used to figure out what size frame to get and all the settings for the handlebars and seat, so you're riding comfy straight out the door. Add in free annual maintenance when you buy a bike here and it's a hell of a deal. Their maintenance guys are top-notch. Though not always the case, I've had one-day turn arounds for a complete tune up before. The several times I've had my ride in for fixing, it always feels super fresh and crisp coming out of the shop here. They do have a lot of accessories, which they seem to try and sell rather aggressively. Seriously, dude, I don't need a $170 helmet and $55 gloves--I'd rather spend that money on whiskey, thanks. This is my only beef with Bikeworks. I guess the margins are high for accessories. I always get a chuckle out of the bike-nut groupies with all their bags, computers, clothing, lights, and whatever other kind of excessive junk they can attach to their bike; inevitably these jokers are slow as molasses. But if you hold steady and resist the temptation for the carbon-fiber shoes, ultra-tech padded shorts, and super-GPS-computer, you'll do fine.

At that point they told me it was probably a sticking caliper and they would clean it up. I receive a call about a week later that my brakes "are leaking like a sieve" (they are hydraulic) and needed a complete brake system replacement that would cost in excess of $350. They stated that parts were in stock and would be done in a week. A few weeks go by and I call and come to find out that the brakes weren't in stock and are on back order. Today in late September 2020 I receive a call that my bike is ready. I come to find out that they admit to having someone work on it that didn't know what he was doing. This person probably left some sort of solvent that marred the brake handles and took off the paint and let it sit for over 3 months for parts to come in. The brakes just needed cleaning and there were no leaks. They cleaned the brakes and 3 people including the owner, Bill test rode it. They all were very sorry that this happened. So instead of me making a big fuss about the damage they had done, I accept it and was just about to leave and was told that I owed them $20 per wheel for the cleaning. Really???? I know if I owned that business I would have delivered the bike to my house with a huge apology for their gross incompetence! Instead, they chose to nickel and dime me and meanwhile I lost a complete summer of riding my bike. This was not my first bad experience with them either but I felt the need to warn the general public of what to be prepared for when you walk into this place. Never Again!

I wanted to send a note regarding my recent experience with your service department…read more I brought my bicycle in for repair and was quoted approximately $220 plus tax to repair the shifter and chain, along with the recommendation that the handlebar tape be replaced. When I asked about the timing, I was told there were 12 bicycles ahead of mine and that it would take 10 days before the work could be completed. I was also informed that if I paid an additional $100, my bicycle could be moved up the service queue and completed sooner. This would have brought my total cost to roughly $350. Instead, I took my bicycle to a bike shop in Hamilton, where the repair was completed promptly for $50. I appreciate that this experience helped me explore other options and ultimately save approximately $300. Unfortunately, after being a customer since your days in South Brunswick, I have decided that I will no longer be shopping at your store or using your service department. I am sharing my experience so that others can make informed decisions when choosing where to have their bicycles serviced.

I have been to enough bike shops in the LV by now to know that between them, some are fantastic on…read morecustomer service, but expensive; some are low-priced but staffed with people who don't know what they are talking about; and some are priced nice, and are friendly, but if you don't call them to follow up constantly, your parts order or bike repair will sit there forever. Cutters is the exception to this: they have awesome prices, they are SUPER friendly and helpful, not snobby, and do fantastic work. They carry awesome bike brands (it's nice being able to choose between like 4+ brands in one shop, as opposed to just going to a shop that sells only Trek, for example). Also, they cater equally well to road riders, and MTBers, unlike many shops who skew towards one or the other (they are great for townie/commuter bikes too!). Between their awesome prices, their in-stock inventory, and their quick turnaround with special orders, I have had zero need to shop online for bike parts either due to cost or availability- if you know even a little about the state of the bicycle industry, you know how important it is to support your local bike shop versus buying online. And this LBS is absolutely, 100% deserving of that.

This was the brakes, for goodness sake! The same disc brakes that are on a lot of conventional bikes. But, no! All I heard was "Oh, that's not anything that isn't at least 25 years old so we won't touch it." I just got back, today, from having the brakes upgraded. I decided to start out the season with the best mechanical brakes I could get and there is no one I trust more to get it done and get it done right than Steven's Mobile Bike Repair. These guys are the greatest!
