Even when the shop is busy they do a great job prioritizing all the customers. Jason spent a lot of time with me letting me try different bikes at various price points. Don takes a ton of time making sure the bike fit is proper. This was by far the best bike shop I have ever been to! We were met by Skip, who was very knowledgeable and helpful with us! He showed us multiple bikes we were interested in, considering our price range and preferences. I found a bike I really enjoyed and Skip put on petals, air in the tires, and adjusted the seat for me before letting me take it for a ride to test it out. I was a bike rider for many years but had to give it up due to bad hips. I received new hips over the winter and decided to go and buy a new bike as a present to myself. I knew Jason from the Anchor House rides where he worked as a mechanic for the ride so I went to Halters. I was met by Skip who couldn't have been nicer. He asked all the right questions about what kind of riding I wanted to do and the big question my price range. We saw a few bikes that met my criteria and started from there. We settled on a Pivot Vault with carbon fiber wheels. He checked on the price and I was nicely surprised when we found out it was on sale. We added some safety items and were all set. So I left an honest review of a few negative dealing with this place. I am entitled as a disgruntled customer to voice my concearns and interactions on a web based public platform utilized for such review process. Since leaving it, I have gotten a call from a Shimano rep cause the shop owner scolded him for my negative interactions, I have gotten cyber bullied and harrassed by Halters "team members" on NJMTB forums and had my job threatened by one of his members who assumes my dealing with Jason had anything to do with my occupation. Even in Jason's reply to my original complaint, he addressed me by my job title twice in an attempt to pull at the heart strings of the public with the current hatred for police officers and swaying them by public perception not facts. In fact had he take a split second to take any form of credit for our negative interactions, I would not be posting this. However he prefers to utilize his energy to discredit and harrass me and passing off blame. Anyone planning on using this shop just be forewarned of you do not worship the ground he walks on and go against anything he has to say, you will fall victim to the "MOB" also. Went within an hour of closing to get cycling shoes for my wife, who just bought a bike from a private seller. Instead of needing to come back another day, we were helped by Jason, who matched her with an excellent pair after trying several on without any rush. He also took the time to put the bike on a stand, mount matching pedals, and show her how to ride with them properly. I've been to a fair few bicycle shops in probably more countries than most people this here country have been to in states. My own sister and bil owned one of the best bicycle shops in SW England, so I have a good idea what a good bicycle shop is. This is a great one. Halter's Cycles is one of the best bicycle shops on any planet. Everyone who works there is passionate about cycling no matter what level or discipline and for the most part they're just delighted to see people on bikes, whether it's to cruise around your retirement community, compete in the state championships, or ride across America. Stock levels are consistently high, and if you can't get the latest gizmo, it's either because it isn't out yet, or they've sold their allocation. But don't worry, they'll get it for you pdq. Jason takes a great pride in selling customers just the right bike in the right size and adjusted expertly for you. In the case of a road bike this can take a good couple of hours, but is at no extra cost on a new bike and only requires your investment of time. But if all you want is an inner tube and a chat everyone there's happy for that too. Lastly, the guys and gals in Halter's workshop between them are experienced in any sort of bike from your Italian hand-crafted jewel to vintage English racers. In fact, between them they own pretty much any type of bike going and have been known to cannibalize their own bike to get customers back on the road or trail. So yes. I'm smitten. read more

Halters is the best bike shop I have ever been to (and I like to go to bike shops). Why? 1. They have so much inventory it is impossible to leave without buying some cool gadget or article of clothing. I am like a kid in a candy shop there. 2. The guys in the shop ride and race all types of bikes that they sell; road, MTB, cross, fixie, at all levels. You will regularly run into the guys on PFW rides. 3. Jason is the master of fit. You have to have and respect your fit appointment, and Jason will spend as long as it takes to get the fit right without forcing you into a bike doesn't fit you. 4. Jason makes sure that my bikes are always safe and in good shape. The service is phenomenal, whether it is one of the bikes that I purchased at the shop or my 15 dollar garage sale bike. Best bike shop in the area and the only one that specializes in 29ers. Never bought a bike here, but they have a great selection of brands and lots of eye candy to gawk at. Saw a single speed rigid steel Bontrager mountain bike hanging up. Even had two fat bikes in store. Cool. It will be quite a few years, but next time I'm in the market for a new bike I'll be coming here. Awesome selection of parts and accessories. Pretty good selection of road and 29er tires and a bin of used/demo mountain tires for cheap. I can get behind that. Had a few different compounds of road bike pads in stock and brand name disc pads, when a few other local shops only had unknown generic brands. The staff is also very helpful. I needed a new derailleur hanger for my bike and a few other shops told me tough luck, they couldn't even order it for me. Talked to one of the guys at the counter who asked in back and I was given a hanger I believe one of the mechanics was about to put on his personal bike. That, my friend, is good service. read more

I asked if they would have it ready for the weekend, as I only have 1 bike. I dropped it off on Wednesday morning, and they had it ready to go by Wednesday afternoon! Also, while I was there, I asked about a new helmet. The guy assisting me was really knowledgeable and helped me find a great new helmet at a good price. Let me start this review with a bit of bias towards Jay and the Halter's crew. They are not only friends of mine but are also arguably one of the best shops in the business. I have dealt with Jay and the Halter's crew for many years and there is reason for that. They really take time to work with their customers and get them in the right bike for their needs.... I just left a fitting session with Don and I couldn't be happier to the attention to detail and time he spent refitting and tweaking my bike fit and position. I purchased my road bike from Jason about 5 years ago or so and had an initial fitting done when I purchased the bike. At that time my fitness and overall flexibility was more suited for mountain biking as that was the discipline I was concentrating mostly on for many years. So over the next few years I have been spending quite a bit more time on my road bike and had done some minor tweaks here and there but never did a full refitting. I spend the afternoon with Don today and all I can say is Perfecto..... He took the time to analyze my pedaling style and positioning before starting anything and within 5mins he already knew where he needed to concentrate to make me more efficient as well as more comfortable. I was very happy with the initial fit and minor tweaks that I had done up till now and did't think I needed much work but Don saw things that would improve my riding right away. That is the biggest benefit of an experienced fitters eye over a computer in my opinion. He took time to explain exactly what each change he was doing and why he was doing it, not just doing things just to do them and adding it to the bill. I highly recommend not only purchasing any bikes you would ever need from the crew here, as the selection of both mountain and road bikes is phenomenal, but if you are an avid road cyclist setting up an appointment with Don or Jay for a professional fitting that will make you one with your bike that comes from years of experience that no computer program can match. read more

My girlfriend and I were in search of a bike rack for the back of our SUVs. We tried a few sporting goods shops and even Walmart...no one cared and no one had what we wanted. I have a nice racing bike that I was afraid to take apart to change the rear (flat) tire. I took it to Halter's; they charged $8 for the tube and around $12 for the labor--and fixed it right then and there. What would have taken me a day and untold aggravation took them ten minutes, and the kid who fixed my bike couldn't have been any nicer. I can't say enough positive things about Jason and the crew at Halter's. Between the initial visit, choosing a bike and the fitting process, they spent close to 5 hours with me. Through it all, they shared their expert knowledge, answered all the questions I had and directed me to a bike they felt best met my needs and budget. I am happy to say, I purchased a Cannondale road bike that has exceeded my expectations. I would also highly recommend taking advantage of the bike fitting process. Don did a fantastic job making adjusting to the bike to optimizing my ride. He has a vast knowledge of the fitting process and is passionate about making the adjustments need to have a more successful ride. I never knew what I missing out on after riding so many miles on a road bike that did not properly fit me (or one might say fit by body at all). I have bought my last two road bikes from Jason at Halter's would not hesitate to go there for my next bike. Jay was friendly on the phone and able to schedule me for a fitting within a week of my calling the shop. Once I was there there was no pressure to buy a certain brand of bike or to try and upsell me something I didn't need. For each bike I spent probably 2 or 3 hours there getting the bike perfectly fit to my body type and posture. The bikes were both priced very well, as is most of the merchandise in the store. The selection of bikes was also good, though I think the store is busy enough that they sell most of what they stock each season. I was about to leave on the Police Unity Tour and wanted to make sure my bike was ready... I spent two hours with Don getting refitted.
