This unique spot in Pompano was a pleasant surprise. Nestled in what appears to be an area that is coming back! The reviews I read drew us to try it out. Had a delicious lunch. So good I forgot to take pictures!! Started with crab Rangoon. Homemade with fresh crab. Lightly fried. Served with a spicy sweet chili sauce. The deviled eggs were good, but the crab Rangoon was sooooo much better. Lunch menu for $10 is a great deal. Lots of variety. We tried the smash burger and chili wings. Both excellent. The showstopper was the potato wedge fries. Unbelievable!! Lightly seasoned and cooked to perfection. We will return. I'll take photos next time. read more

Having lunch at The VAULT in the original Bank of Pompano building was one of the highlights of my recent visit back to my hometown . The food was fresh and delicious , the service was downtown friendly and the atmosphere was nostalgic and full of history . Being a native with a lifetime of memories as a Beanpicker , I especially enjoyed the Beanpicker Roll Appetizer .The owner and staff are doing a great job of recapturing the spirit of Old Pompano . I went for the first time last week for happy hour and I was extremely impressed. My group and I sat outside but went in the restaurant to look at the original vault from when the restaurant was a bank. The backstory of the restaurant is truly amazing and I love how some of the dishes were references to the history of the establishment. I started off with flapper fizz which was so good and refreshing. My party and I ate the deviled dollars which were so good, the steak cut fries, withdrawal wings, meatball a la old town, shrimp securities, bootleggers Mac and cheese and infamous fingers. Every single food item tasted so delicious, flavorful and freshly made. I then ate we got it all short ribs and it definitely has it all. The short ribs were so tender and moist, practically melted in mouth. The pow pow potatoes tasted so good and was flavorful and creamy. I also had a chocolate old fashioned for the first time and it tasted magnificent. Everything from the service (Gray was an amazing server) to the live entertainment to the food to the overall atmosphere was 10/10. I love a restaurant in a historic building so I could not wait to check out The Vault, a new restaurant in Pompano Beach located in the building that was the former first bank in Pompano. Today the historic State Bank of Pompano building in Pompano Old Town has a new incarnation as a 1920's themed restaurant that pays tribute to its history. It is located next to another building with a storied past, the Bailey Hotel which has been transformed into the Bailey Contemporary Arts Center. I was able to stop in for lunch during a day off from school. I love the speak easy vibe of the redesign. The bar has plush seats while the dining room is accented with period murals and inviting tables. I especially love the deep green wallpaper that really drives home the 1920's aesthetic. As you walk into the building the original brick wall is preserved under glass. The Vault offers a number of $10 weekday lunch specials that include a smashburger, chicken sandwich, wings, chicken salad croissant, Cobb salad, and a Caesar salad. I sat at the bar and saw that a number of locals have already discovered this gem for lunch. I ordered the Laura Croissant, a Waldorf chicken salad on a toasted croissant. It comes with your choice of side, fries or broccoli. The chicken salad was the right balance of sweet and savory. I inquired about the Happy Hour which is from 4 to 7 PM weekdays. It includes discounted beer, cocktails, and liquor but not food. They do however offer small plates along with their dinner portion large plates. The lovely bartender offered to make a Happy Hour cocktail and I couldn't think of a more perfect drink to honor this historic building than an Old Fashioned, a whiskey cocktail mixed with bitters, sugar, and an orange peel. The Old Fashioned is believed to have been invented in Louisville, Kentucky in 1880 at a private social club called The Pendennis Club. The name comes from people ordering a cocktail the old fashioned way. The Vault's Old Fashioned that was prepared for me was perfection. The Vault is currently in a soft opening phase but the official ribbon cutting ceremony will take place on February 27th from 6 to 8 PM. This event is closed to the public but it will be open right after from 8 to 10 PM with live music and Happy Hour drinks. Follow them on Instagram for all of the latest news about upcoming events. Here is a little more about the history of this building and one of Pompano Beach's most infamous crimes. The State Bank of Pompano opened on September 25, 1922. The bank brought financial prosperity to a burgeoning Pompano Beach but it also attracted the attention of the infamous Ashley gang. There is a great display about the Ashley Gang in the Elliot Museum in Stuart where you can see over 400 artifacts including John Ashley's glass eye. John Ashley also known as the King of the Everglades and the Swamp Bandit was a trapper who became the head of a criminal enterprise that operated in South Florida during the early 20th century. He was an murderer, outlaw, bank robber, train robber, bootlegger, and occasional pirate during the 1910's and 1920's. He was also a type of Robin Hood character who was looked upon favorably by the area pioneers known as crackers as someone who gave to the needy. The Ashley family produced a large amount of moonshine and the people they hired to run the stills were loyal to them. The Ashley gang robbed approximately a million dollars from 40 banks and bootlegged whiskey smuggled in from the Bahamas during prohibition. In addition to their illegal activities they also owned a grocery store, gas station, and boarding house. On September 12, 1924, the Ashley Gang robbed the State Bank of Pompano terrorizing the employees and stealing thousands in cash and bonds. The next month four members of the gang including John were killed by law enforcement in Ft. Pierce on the Sebastian Inlet Bridge. The Bank of Pompano closed during the Great Depression and the vault was preserved by the Pompano Beach Historical Society. read more

Imagine a madonna song remade as a 20s tune. Nice music. Good service, can be slow when theres a crowd. Will return. Go for happy hour, more bang for your buck. We decided to go for an early Sunday evening/afternoon dinner at this restaurant I found here on Yelp. I had scoped out some of their small plates and thankfully my son and I have similar tastes so we went together on small plates! We got the following small plates: deviled dollars, brazen hot honey bites, bootleggers Mac and cheese, shrimp securities, and Pompano bean pickers! My son didn't move the bacon honey bites so I took one for the team and ate the rest. There were definitely a few a little on the hard side but the sauce was perfect! Our favorites were the Mac and cheese and green beans wrapped in bacon! Shrimp was a close 2nd. My wife got the Cobb Salad and added grilled chicken and she rated her meal a solid 10. Our other son got the First Bank Smash Burger and absolutely inhaled it! Definitely a 10 from him! The restaurant itself was so cool. The bootlegger theme was pretty fun with the music playing pretty fun even for our 2 teenage boys. They loved the Eminem song being sung by someone else with the old school sound. Our server, Jules, and the bartender took great care of us and the chef even came out to make sure we were enjoying our meals. I almost forgot our favorite dish of the night.. BREAD PUDDING WITH ICE CREAM!! Seriously, you need to get this! Save room! The bartender said it's made in-house by a lady who comes in weekly to make it and it was amazing! My husband and I came to The Vault for food and drinks. The vibes are super cute in here, found out this bar is in the oldest building in Pompano, which used to be a bank back in 1922. Drinks we got the Rizty Ricky (fantastic gin elderflower spritz, super food) and the Old Fashion. Food we tried the Lump Crab Soup, Withdrawal Wings, Raiford Buffalo Egg Rolls, Brazen Hot Honey Bites(Burnt Ends), and Infamous Finger(Blackened Mahi). They won a recent contest for the best burger (in Boca) and it was very good! The fries are homemade as well as the clam chowder soup. The seafood salad was excellent along with their crab Rangoon. I tried a smash burger today and it was honestly one of the best burgers I've had in a while. The patty was smashed thin on the grill which gave it that perfect crispy crust on the outside while staying juicy on the inside. The cheese melted right into the meat and the toasted bun held everything together without getting soggy. Every bite had a great balance of flavor from the beef, melted cheese, and toppings. Simple, but done perfectly. If you like burgers with crispy edges and tons of flavor, the smash burger is definitely the way to go. read more

This place is on the corner downtown pompano - a very fun place - it has small plates and big plates of delicious well prepared food- loved the smashed broccoli- pompano bundles of green beans and bacon/the potatoes with melted cheese and a great little Caesar salad- The cocktails are great and don't miss the homemade chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream- not too sweet just rich and yummy- This will be a regular spot for us!! We dined at The Vault on a Saturday evening as out-of-towners visiting from Central Florida. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated with a cool, modern ambiance. Our server was prompt, attentive, and offered thoughtful suggestions. He checked in at all the right times without ever feeling intrusive. The real star of the evening was the food. We started with the crab chowder--and having tried chowders up and down the coast, this one easily ranks in the top one percent. It was creamy, perfectly balanced, generously filled with crab, and the bacon added a smoky, salty depth. Truly a 10/10. We also ordered their take on ceviche, which was bright and vibrant; it could have used just a touch more citrus, but it was still very enjoyable. For entrées, we tried the short ribs and the chicken bowl. Both were delicious--flavorful, well-balanced, and so satisfying that we left zero leftovers. We had the chance to meet the executive chef as well, who was warm, passionate, and clearly dedicated to his craft and this restaurant. Overall, a fantastic experience. Ever read favorable reviews and then go to the restaurant and think WTF? I thought that when I went to The Vault as some reviewers exalted the dining room and from this I thought the restaurant would be a nice bank themed special restaurant. Well it wasn't and some reviewers didn't just embellish but their reviews were dishonest. There is not much atmosphere going on here and I thought I would see remnants of an old bank or classic architecture but instead the tables are situated next to the server's station and this is more a nondescript sports bar then an interesting or nice looking restaurant. Even worse than the dreary dining room design was the closeness of the tables and the crammed in feeling with little space separating the tables. The dated menu and food are also similar to that of a sports bar with many fried items and simple basics and that could be okay if executed nicely but most items were mediocre. In the absence of choice I went with fried pickles for one appetizer and it was the best appetizer we had. A short rib item was better than the appetizers and that's why I am giving three stars rather than the two though it really warrants a 2 1/2. Service was good and prices are reasonable. read more

I had heard about Pompano Beach getting a restaurant in what used to be the first Bank of Pompano and I was psyched to go. Let me start off by saying, you don't eat your meal in a bank vault. The vault is a smallish restaurant with a large bar. There are tables in the front, seating for two along the side and more tables in the rear. The wait staff is dressed appropriately in 1920's outfits and there are some murals on the wall depicting the 20's but that's where the nostalgia ends. The menu is diverse with small plates, salads and then large plates. My friend had the short ribs, his wife had the shrimp bowl and my wife and I each had the chicken bowl which was chicken cubes, walnuts, veggies in a delicious soy based sauce with coconut rice. It was delicious. The waiter explained the history of the bank and how it was once robbed of $5000 which today would be about a quarter of a million dollars. As we finished our entree a dessert had caught my eye so we shared pineapple upside down cake, a la mode. The cake was warm and moist and melted nicely with the vanilla ice cream. Downtown Pompano if there is no Untapped happening is dark and deserted. It would behoove the city to plan more events to attract the tourists and locals to the area. If you do come Downtown, do give the Vault your interest. read more

We have been here a few times for lunch and everything was good. However we went for dinner on a Friday and was very disappointed! We started with drinks, my margarita had no taste and after asking for some more lime juice or mixer, it still tasted bad. The Negroni wasn't very good either. We ordered the crab Rangoon appetizer. They were good but the 4 portions were very small for the price. The Cesar side salad was big but it had lots of shaved Parmesan which didn't taste fresh and neither did the croutons. The chicken fingers had a different kind of breading which was dry & had little flavor. The chicken stir fry was good but not a very big portion.
