I highly recommend this Deli and Coffee Shop I had a smoked turkey with cheddar sandwich, small salad, and coffee. All excellent! The bread was so fresh, the cheddar sharp, and the salad was with dark greens. I don't usually make recommendations, but this was so superior I couldn't help it. The service was fantastic. A young woman had to climb a long staircase to bring them to me. And the man at the counter was super nice. I wish it was closer! I live in Detroit. :( read more

I absolutely love coming here for the turkey reuben! The ingredients are always so fresh and delicious, no matter what you order. There's a great menu with lots of good options and lots of things to look at around the shop as they make your food! There's good chip and drink options, alcohol, candy and more! The shop is also connected to the cafe/bookstore next door so you have the option to look around there as well, maybe grab a coffee or latte and have your food brought to you! The atmosphere of the bookstore/cafe is cozy and inviting and the vibe inside the deli is almost historic, seeming to have an old bank vault inside as their wine cellar, very nice touch! Despite the historical aspect, it's still very inviting! As far as the service goes, the staff is always on point. They are very friendly and efficient and confident! I decided to check out downtown Mason while in the area, to shop the local businesses and try this place out. This is a charming deli across from the courthouse, with a great wine selection, vintage appeal, and a modest assortment of upscale treats and breads to round things out. Unfortunately, the nice atmosphere was ruined by an unpleasant encounter with the cook. I placed an order, took it away to eat next door at their lovely adjacent bookstore seating, and discovered it was not what I ordered. Upon returning to fix it, the man working the oven told me it would be a half hour because he now had orders ahead of me. WHAT? I explained that I had actually already waited, this was correcting my previous order, but he wasn't budging, and started yelling at me, saying that I had issues, as though I was the problem. This place is amazing. My family came in for lunch on a Friday afternoon. The food came out in about 20 minutes and we all enjoyed our meals. We had the pepperoni and ham flatbread pizza and also the Rueben and a #33. I definitely recommend stopping in. read more

This isn't a place I'd randomly find myself, I was brought by a friend. I was a little skeptical. It's nestled in the quaint small pale downtown of Mason. It's inside of an old bank. The wine storage is in The Vault. They properly used the design of this space to fit the mood of a new deli. You'll walk in to a walk up for above living units, a trash & tray table for discarding and the entrance to the deli. Merchandising is the name of the game. All of the touristy treats you could need. Caramels, chocolates, chips, cookies, pickles, onions, salts, oils, syrups, jams to spare. You are likely a grinch if you leave with buying only the meal you came to eat. The menu is sweet not too long not too short. Variety is on the table. Meat, veggies and food like stuff for the vegans... I kid I kid but really everyone can eat here. The sandwich menu is classic, I've ordered The Club Florentine, The B.L.T. and the Chicken Salad Sandwich. All-stars. Chicken salad: consistent, chunky, flavorful and slightly creamy. Seasoned to blend flavors for a full spicy, sweet and savory satisfaction. There was extra crunch and sweet bursts of flavor on each chew. I don't remember if it included grapes or other chicken salad favorites but I didn't take much time to look at it as I was eating. The B.L.T.: BACON, thick, cooked perfectly to slightly crisp but tender enough for one bite chew gloriousness. Layers of bacon, fresh tomato and crisp greens remind you why this threesome is a sure thing every time. Oh and the coup de gras the bed of this threesome was a croissant. As a lavish flaky, soft and rich bed this croissant complements and does not demand too much of the flavor. Club Florentine: (pictured below) This is too much for one meal. I am a lover of pork. Black Forest and bacon lure my desires. Not over cured or salted but well roasted ham. Add smoked turkey for depth and you've got scrumptious temptation to eat till you can't any more. I recommend this over all options. The Greek: Fresh garden variety greens, crisp cucumbers, red onions, kalamata olives, pepperonchini, juicy tomatoes, smooth tangy feta, more than enough. I've indulged in their deli salads: quinoa (not my favorite), macaroni (a mild appeal) and the potato which is the best potato salad a deli has ever provided my senses. Well season and creamy texture in the right portion complements most handhelds. Chips are not housemade but they are craft kettle and delicious in many seasonings. The drinks vary from Faygo, to naturally sweetened tea and soda made with real fruit. You can also buy wine and beer to enjoy with your meal. The dining experience is usually had next door in the book store or outside when weather permits. I also pick up their flavored salts, some of the wines and at times a cooking syrup or oil. I make a day of coming here. I stop into the antique stores and enjoy a nice caucasian excursion when I'm in Mason. Visit, they're friendly, I've not had any odd experiences outside of being followed by the police. read more

The only thing going for this deli is the fact they use high quality meats, Dietz-Watson. $10.00 for an extremely little bit of meat on a sandwich is way too much. We have been spoiled now. Other delis - though adequately nice - simply never get the entire package together. Over a four year period, we've tried all of the soups, all of the salads, and a large number of the sandwiches. So far, no disappointments. Management here is very moxey. Workers are young people from the town. Selection of workers is uncannily accurate. They are industrious at their jobs, and pleasant to talk with. The total business is a grouping of several enterprises, and workers receive training to accomplish and excel in each enterprise. As a result, they easily shift around to cover needs. All of these result in a customer service that is superior. The killer criteria in any eatery is cleanliness. Vault Deli keeps on top of this nicely. Prices are important too. We've been comfortable with price structure here. An honest deal is a satisfying deal. We're happy and satisfied. This place has it all together in one package. And - just wait until you get to the Bestsellers Coffeeshop next door, that is an integral part of the Vault Deli. Another group of enjoyable, satisfying experiences unfold here. read more

The Vault Deli is owned by the people who own Bestsellers Books and Coffee next door. The Vault doesn't have any of it's own seating so you if you are eating in you have to sit next door at the coffee shop. This works out nicely because after you order your food you go next door for your coffee and they'll bring your sandwiches over. The variety of hot and cold sandwiches they offer is very nice. The ingredients are fresh and high quality. The bread is excellent and they serve their hot sandwhiches right! They are warm all the way through and not just thrown on toasted bread. *UPDATE* They are open until 9 Thursday, Friday & Saturday now. So at least until 9 on Friday or Saturday you have something other than a smokey bar & pizza in Mason. While they sell beer and wine their license doesn't allow it to be consumed on site so you'll have to take your beverage home with you. The coolest part of their beer selection is that they let you mix it up and buy one of anything instead of having to buy a pack of something you might not like. If you get a 6 pack (even if it is a mixed pack) you get a discount. read more

Outstanding sandwiches. In fact, I drove from Lansing because my craving was quite bad yesterday. Typical of gourmet type sandwich places in that every aspect of the sandwich is considered. Good bread, high end meats, fresh leaf lettuce, onions and unique condiments. Friendly clientele, extensive wine (if that's your thing) and beer selections. Very small detraction in that you can't buy a beer to eat with your sandwich, but not enough to warrant a star deduction. Wine vault is exactly that. The vault of the bank from the previous occupant. Adds to the coolness. Order your sandwich, then browse thru the selection of items you would most likely not find anywhere else in Mason. One small table to eat in the establishment, or you can have your food delivered (mentioned) to the cafe/bookstore next door, or on tables on the sidewalk. The pasta/premium sides you can choose to upgrade aren't the biggest of portions and probably not worth the extra money to upgrade. Nonetheless, perhaps the best $7.50 sandwich in recent memory. The Vault in Mason, MI was very unprofessional in taking my order. I had a small order for 5 people. First off, they were out of CHICKEN- really?- and various salad dressings. I asked them for a gluten-free sandwich/ grilled, with a Salad. They gave me a sandwich that was not grilled and was not gluten free and then on top of that the salad had croutons on it- It's supposed to be gluten-free!!!! I get all the way back to my superiors at work, to which the lunches were for, and made this discovery. The person who was to have the gluten free meal was very upset. I call the place demanding answers- and the guy who answers the phone has no clue. I asked them to bring me another sandwich- the guy tells me no. I later speak with management who was very professional and apologetic, she actually took the time to listen to me vent to her about my experience and she sympathized with me unlike the first person I spoke with. I explained to management that a great deal of their business comes from our company and we do not have to tolerate poor service. We can take our business elsewhere. Service is slow and my order wasn't totally accurate but they got the main order right and it was fabulous. Very friendly people. Bonus points for carrying my favorite and very hard-to-find Michigan wine--Left Foot Charley Murmur. It's worth the drive to Mason for this great find! If you are not sure what you might want from the menu the staff has been known to make custom sandwiches based on what sounds good to you. The owner and staff are knowledgable about their ingredients and the wide variety of products they carry. They are also enthusiastic in the services they provide. They have unique and unusual products that are not easily found in other emporiums. I recently saw on their shelves a specialty cookie I previously had only seen in northern Italy. It's a regional specialty of Italy and to have it available locally was a delight to see, and taste.
