I have spent the last 2 days in the ER for chest pain (at times debilitating), shortness of breath, lower legs so swelled I can't see my ankles and when it hits bad I can barely walk. So Yesterday morning I went to the ER, they did an EKG, and Blood work. Results were 'unremarkable'. Last night at 9 PM I went again. This time, they did the same tests with the same results but added a CT Scan which was negative for 'acute' findings. I spent 10.5 hours there and was told they didn't know why I was having the symptoms I'm having, and go see a carologoist next week. I called a doctor relative who called them idiots. My symptoms are the same for a heart attack, Pericarditis, and Pulmonary Embolism. They should have run an Echocardiogram and or a VQ scan. I'm headed over to Hackensack Medical Center to get expect care. read more

All of my doctors are in the Valley Medical Group and they are great! Today I had to go to the ER. I was extremely nervous, but literally everyone I met was very kind and understanding. The valets are so helpful and friendly. The security guard/officer clearly explained the rules and guided us to the next step. The intake nurses are calming and kind. My nurse, Cat, and the ultrasound specialist were awesome. Their bedside manner was 10/10! The doctor I spoke with was very knowledgeable. He spoke very quickly, but explained everything in detail! The rooms are clean and you even get a TV! I do wish I was offered a blanket because it's super chilly in there, but they were so fast with my results that I was out of there in no time. I have now had two absolutely terrible experiences at Valley Hospital. Both were with my 85 year old mother. The first was in the ER department. She was brought in via ambulance for chest pains. I was given no information from the front desk and told to "just wait." After three hours I was getting up to ask about my mother when I hear her shouting that she wants to leave. Mind you she is an extreme fall risk and is trying to leave while security is preventing her from leaving the triage area. The only saving grace was a quick fitted security guard who ran to get a wheelchair. I calmed her down and then we sat IN THE HALLWAY for another hour. She was finally taken to a room, but no information was given to us regarding what had been done thus far. After a total of eight, yes eight hours, we had not been seen by a doctor. I spoke with a nurse to determine if there was any cardiac risk and if not, we would like to leave. So, we did. My sister received a call asking where my mother was and that she needed to be seen by a doctor. They had no idea we had left. The more recent visit was equally traumatic. She was admitted after she fell and they found that her white blood cell count was extremely high. They discovered her gallbladder was infected. She elected to have surgery ( from three options given by the doctor). No one let the surgeon know and she had to wait another full day before surgery. She hadn't eaten before heading to the hospital, and was told no food or water before the surgery. Thankfully the surgeon was competent and the procedure went well. Post operative care was nonexistent. My sister arrived to find that my mom had not been checked on in hours. She had no water all day, no one helped her eat, she was stuck in bed, (this was all noted in her chart as required care) and the bathroom literally had trash and medical supplies strewn about. When my sister spoke with a nurse she simply replied that they were very busy and she would "look into it." Today a nurse called to let my sister k ow my mother had contracted COVID. When my sister asked clarifying questions, that nurse said that she was very busy and promptly hung up on her. Please, please DO NOT go to this hospital! Head to Hackensack Hospital. Valley Hospital is horrendous and they should be absolutely ashamed of how they treat patients. Shocking. If I could, I'd leave zero stars. read more

My 7 yr old great nephew was seen at the er twice. Two doctors wd not treat him. Told parents to go home and his cough wd go away in 6 weeks. He doesn't have insurance. Tonight march 11, he was treated at the pascack valley hospital in westwood. Had a chest xray, steroids, and script for antibiotics. The parents did self pay. Dr. Alexa R Policastro was one of the rudest and non caring doctors I've ever experienced in my life. I went in bc I saw blood in my vomit and stool and was puking the whole night before and my blood pressure was 155/110 which is extremely high for me. I knew it was high bc I feel like my skin is on fire when I gets that high. I asked her for medication for my blood pressure and she said she didn't worry about it unless it's in the 160'--170's which I thought was extremely wrong. She than procee to tell me she'll get me a pain medication to help the blood pressure and zofran and never once put me on fluids which I needed very much. She never put any he order in so I had to ask about ten times to get my meds and she just had an over all "idgaf" attitude like she wasnt believing me. It made me extremely uncomfortable and very upset she wasn't taking my health seriously or even acted like she cared even a little bit. I think she is one of the worst doctors I've ever had to deal with and idk how she is a doctor there. she was completely heartless and cold and could care less about how I was feeling. She didn't even give me a good diagnosis in the end. SHE SHOULD NOT BE AN ER DOCTOR WHAT SO EVER!!!! read more

Got charged for a sick visit. Explained to them I was there for a physical and they did all the tests. TOO BAD. The billing department has determined you were sick... um no... liars. Contested with CIGNA who is still investigating. In the meantime, they have sent it off to a collections agency. Care was good after my recent surgery, but somehow the nurse who admitted me "lost" my wallet. Urged me to give her the wallet for safekeeping, said she would put it in the safe. Never did. Called Patient Relations, claims they made phone calls to the unit and security who said they didn't have it. Just vaporized I guess. My advice, leave you wallet/valuables with a family/friend during your stay. DO NOT LEAVE IT WITH ANYONE THERE. It's a shame, they would have been given 5 STARS if it wasn't for this event. read more

Don't have an outpatient appointment at the old Valley Hospital on a weekend. There is no one at the front desk. The doors are locked. Security can't be bothered. The care is excellent, the new esthetics are beautiful its just a shame they spent all the money on a beautiful building and the food served is unedible. The Ridgewood facility served near restaurant quality food and this food now isn't fit for a starving animal. I would love to watch any big shots eat that food. The menu didn't change during my five day stay and worse yet lunch and dinner entrees are the same so the disgusting choices at lunch are the sane at dinner. if you're looking for help and this is your only option, stay home. i went in there 3 days ago with a really concerning medical condition, where they completely ignored how i felt and everything i was saying. they didn't take it seriously at all and discharged me twice knowing that i had no relief or any answers. i am still suffering right now, and in so much pain, but id rather be in the comfort of my own home not getting help, than trying to convince the doctors to help and still not getting it in the emergency room. i'm just hoping it gets worse so i can sue to be honest lol read more

My husband and I were both treated terribly during our wasted time in the Emergency Room. The ER doctors, nurses, and medical assistants were unprofessional and unhelpful. In an attempt to diagnose a rash, they spoke about our condition in the hallway outside our door and made zero efforts to care for us in any way. I had to actually request a consult with a specialist regarding this situation. In addition, we NEVER received results from the tests they performed. We did receive a hefty bill in which they ignored the fact that we have insurance...Despite the newness of its construction, I would NOT recommend an emergency visit to Valley!!!! read more

I had the most horrific experience at Valley Hospital. If someone followed me with a documentary camera it would be a horror film. I was post op for a MAJOR back surgery when I contracted Covid and was moved to that unit from the orthopedic surgical recovery unit. Which of course you get the absolute worst care because there are no visitors (advocates/friends/family) and boy do they know it. The room was never cleaned anything that may have fallen on the floor was kicked under the bed. The linens on the bed were only changed after 4 days. there was blood all over my bed, the blue pad, my pillowcases, sheets. they flipped the pillow and changed the blue pad. I will never go back to Valley Hospita. I would rather die in the street. read more

The ER Dr's ignored my wife for multiple hours despite repeated request for a help. She was laying there asking for a Dr to see her while in pain (from kidney stones) for hours. There was another incident earlier in the month which I was there. She was in the ER for over 12 hours. The also like to triage you right away so they can bill you. This is the most disgusting excuse of a hospital I could ever imagine. I worked in public service and understand a standard of care. The staff at this facility are belittling and this place needs to be investigated. Third experience there. I waited to give it a chance that they had a bad night the first time, and even the second. Nope. Management, you need to figure it out. When you come in for textbook heart attack symptoms, you should not be waiting over an hour for any kind of cardiac monitoring. The nurses don't deserve to be judgmental to patients and treat them horribly. If i or my family member is in cardiac arrest, I would rather bring them to Hackensack, an extra 15 minutes, then deal with the care I have experienced with your staff in the emergency department. I've been to the ER 3 times & admitted twice. Their beside manner & professionalism is above & beyond. They actually listen to you & have excellent follow up / follow through on their word. The food is super delicious as well & they have a wide variety of options. I had a heart procedure done & it went so smoothly. They explained expectations leading up to the procedure & recovery time. This hospital is caught up in more political, BS and agenda than it is actually helping people. Once you get through all their gender documents, and all the other unnecessary paperwork you need to fill out then you go what they call the emergency room which is pure hell- it is filthy! people lying in the hallways on gurneys not getting test results back for hours just holding up the rooms with patients that aren't getting treated but just waiting for paperwork to come back. So many people disgusted after being released without any true diagnosis, but they will tell you to go to another doctor or somewhere else because this hospital is not doing its job, but they are so concerned about your gender and not releasing your 12 year olds paperwork to you or not letting you see dying family because loved ones are not vaccinated with the shot that doesn't even work. I had internal bleeding and I found out through Holy Name hospital two days later, Valley never picked it up. But that's OK. Let them feel comfortable calling me the proper gender I guess they think that's all good- put your political differences aside. while we were laying in the hallway there was a Family next to me couldn't believe they had to fill out paperwork saying that they were not going to divulge any information on their minor without their consent. Horrible experience! Nurses will throw u out at 2 am after you have already been there +6 hours after visiting hours leaving your loved one upset and crying when they should be healing! Mentioned my loved one has panic attacks in my absence when sick. Nurses seemed to feel it would be better to drug my loved one asleep if they started to panic. Quick to drug an upset patient and slow to bring medicine to patients sick and in pain. Horrible! read more

I have been trying for 3 days to schedule a mamogram at the hospital. I have called all different times of the day and had to wait & wait but could not get to speak with any one. Finally one day someone picked up, I gave her my information she read it back to me & said she had to put me on hold. After a few minutes I had a hang up signal. She had my info with my phone number on it and never called back. Also three times I left my phone number with the opton they would call me back and never had a return call. I live near by and will have to go to the hospital and ask them at the desk what is going on. Oh another thing you can not speak with a person. Impossible. Horrible Service. Left me in ER for 3.5hrs with a broken foot, road rash, hole in my knee, no meds til I was basically hobbling out the door in pass out pain to my Uber after nothing for two hours. Was told 10 min but that was another 1.5hrs until I finally hobbled out of the hospital and got an Uber at 3am. Asked for a wheel chair, waited 5 min and hobbled out to someone playing on a computer and a bunch people not doing much. Two ladies where very much trying, but the place is just terrible. I have road rash all over my One arm, wrist and none on the other arm. My medical wrist band placed over the road rash wrist, covered in blood and sticking to my raw cut below. Just overall TERRIBLE. Update, broken foot so swollen it can't be cast due to the lack of care I received. Hole in knee that can't be stitched now due to the amount of time that has passed since injury. tonight I was visiting a family member in the emergency room at Valley Hospital. the new hospital on the outside is aesthetically pleasing but as soon as you walk in, you are met with a very cold feeling, nothing warm and comforting noted. The type of care from the staff who I'm sure is overwhelmed, was rude, not a single smile from anyone there. I will say the staff that was transporting my family member was the only person who smiled and said hello. There must've been 10 to 12 employees ( nurses and doctors)who walked by us waiting for help that avoided eye contact at all cost The wait time was extremely long, and our male nurse was condescending when we asked if there was anything that my family member could have for severe anxiety. Mistaje me if I'm wrong, but I thought we got into the health profession to help people, it was probably one of my worst experiences that I've had in a very long time, very discouraging to say the least I myself a healthcare provider realize that we are all overworked and underpaid, we work long hours are often overlooked for much needed raises. however, I didn't get in this profession for all those reasons I got in it because I wanted to help people. tonight's experience was so unpleasant and so discouraging from the moment I stepped in to the last moment when I stepped out in fact the nurse seated at the front of the exiting door gave me attitude because I touched the door by accident, perhaps my mind was elsewhere as I'm sure you can imagine having a loved one in the emergency room, and the last thing I needed was to hear a condescending, rude nurse give me a problem about a door I hope you can train the staff to better understand how important a smile, a kind word perhaps even a eye contact in a difficult moment would help in a very difficult situation read more

The chairs are uncomfortable as hell and people are already so uncomfortable and sick. this hospital used to be the place to come...not anymore. Staff are obnoxious. I swear by Valley. I delivered both my children here, and have had surgery here. The facility itself is kept nicely, always clean, spacious and smells nice. The most important thing about Valley is the people. All of my experiences here for myself or visiting the staff is always very friendly and willing to help. They made some of the best, scary, and life changing times comfortable for me and my family. The signs direct you where you want to be, There is valet for visitors, and a full cafe and gift shop for your convenience. If Valley is an option take it, and ask for extra heated blankets ! read more

The new Valley Hospital in Paramus ER on weekends only has (oh yes always has the staff says) and I quote 'on weeekends between 11 pm and 7 am there are only 2 ER drs on duty. My arrival with my elderly father started at 9:30 pm he blood work showed he was 'critical' by his cancer dr and was told to come here! The New band new Hospital brand new ER! It has been close to 9 hours. His wait time from check in to triage was 3 hours. His wait time to get into the ER was another 3 hours. His wait to get an actual ER DR was another hour to hear back from this ER Dr was another hour. He did not receive any fluids etc until hour 9. We are currently waiting to be admitted but the ER Dr has not scanned in the admit forms. Questions about care and why only 2 drs on duty were always answered 'it's always been this way'. I can barely think that this new billion money making machine only has 2 ER Drs on to treat at my count '70' patients. Nurses and other staff are not even at stations. Vomit bags sit in the waiting room although many workers and passed them. When I questioned my father's care I got 'we just saw him' meaning they can see him from the 'doorbell' camera in room. I am deaf so using this type of system with me is in a nutshell half assed. I told everyone here I am deaf I even have a closed caption on my phone to hear them and they all were concerned about me recording thier responses. Good for is when my father goes up to the admitting floor. It will be the same care as this? Awful for a new start. read more

Valley used to be good, but the quality of care appears to have gone downhill. The nurses are a hit or miss. Some of them are extremely good. Others - not so much. Of the 4 nurses I had, 2 of them were quite good. The other 2 had issues. One of the nurses wouldn't use gloves for anything, and ahe was hanging tpn and anti-biotics on iv, changing wounds without gloves. I'm pretty sure those are serious violations. Another nurse was extremely condescending, and rude. She would listen in on private conversations, and interjected with random comments, multiple times. The doctor's we interacted with appeared to be mostly good, except for one surgeon. Their visitation policy is by far the worst. Max 2 persons per day, with only one allowed up at a time. And the visitation hours are 12am to 8 pm which is just not sufficient. Most hospitals have moved past these archaic policies, now what we are in 2022. I understand putting in reasonable policies to prevent covid spread, but their current policies are way too restrictive compared to other hospitals. read more

I had to drop off a urine sample at the lab at valley hospital in Ridgewood NJ, I was told that all I have to do is walk into the lab hand the specimen with the paperwork to the receptionist, they look at the paperwork and I leave. So not even close to reality. I was there for a little over an hour. They treat you like you're a patient checking in for a visit. You have to wait to be called to drop a specimen off. The whole process is stupid and a waste of time. If valley hospital is reading this you really need to take care of that, at other labs I have gone to you hand them the specimen with the paperwork they check in the computer and they say. She took the time to hold my hand through the process of healing and my recovery stages with professionalism, patience and genuine care and concern. Every time she comes in to check on me, she always takes the time to talk to me and make sure she is doing everything she can to make me feel comfortable. Even behind her mask, I can see the warmth of her smile. Her willingness to go above and beyond shines through every time she comes into my room. She carries herself with grace, dignity, and respect and it radiates off of her. I feel very blessed to have her in my corner. It is clear that she and Dr. Usgaonker work extremely well together and they only have their patients best interest at heart. It is not easy to be a doctor and I understand the patience and calmness it takes to provide the excellent care they have given me. Just had knee replacement on 1/24/2024 and am very impressed with the professional and caring staff on orthopedics, RN Keisha and physical therapist , Sunny. Everything about Valley was exceptional and advanced, from informational videos before surgery to nurse navigators, case managers to advanced services and technology. The Health and Wellness center was impressive with the fitness center for physical therapy and exercise. The staff greeted me and was helpful when I went for a Cat scan. I am a gym rat and it felt like I was at my favorite gym. I am an RN for the past 42 years and this is where I would have worked if was younger and lived closer. It is number 1 on my list now as a magnet hospital. I loved my doctor, Erik Zachweija who is so experienced and caring, explaining everything to me before and after surgery. A three hour wait in an emergency room is totally not acceptable. The new Paramus location Emergency Room is ridiculous. First of all you cannot park your own car because there are only about 20 spots available so you have to use valet or walk quite a way, something you would not want to do in an emergency. i was greeted well and they took my vitals and then i waited 3 hours to been seen. The guy that took me in complained they just did not build enough beds down there to deal with the amount of people that show up. Then waited another half hour in the room before anyone came in. This is a new hospital, who designed this place anyway, it's all very pretty but not very practical. Staff was nice when I finally saw someone, but when it was time to take out my IV and leave, no one showed up. I had to call someone to say, I really need to leave since I arrived at 2:30 PM and it is now 8:30 PM. No wonder there are so many people waiting, I could have been out of there at least a half hour sooner. read more
