I've used this UPS center a lot in the past four years. For shipping things I've packed myself, I've had no issues, and the service has been fine. I always pack and tape everything and pre-label my boxes before I get there, because their point-of-sale fees for such things are very high. This is generally the same no matter what shipping place you go to. However, the latest issue with pre-labeled UPS Amazon returns is a huge problem. The story from the owner and employees is that all boxes have to meet "UPS standards" and "the driver won't pick it up if it doesn't." I watched this thinly veiled crash grab a few days ago as the employee convinced a senior citizen who was already struggling to process an online return that she needed to buy a whole additional box, packaging materials, and pay additional fees to do her return, which was already sealed up in the original shipping box that was shipped by UPS in the first place, with the original UPS label still on it. I was next in line, and I ran into the same issue myself, with an employee claiming that they could not ship it in the original shipping box ("that's a product box"), even though it had originally gotten to me through UPS the same exact way. I left and went to another UPS service counter, which scanned and accepted it and provided me my return receipt with no issues. The return was credited by Amazon within 24 hours, and that is the end of it. EDITED TO ADD: The management's response below is totally off the mark. The product was in its original plain cardboard box, encased in heavy-duty foam inside the box. There were no parts moving around loose inside the box, nor was the integrity of the cardboard compromised. This is totally dishonest behavior by this UPS store, and consequently, I've revised my rating from two stars to a single star. As a result of this interaction, I will not be using this business again. There are many other UPS shipping locations throughout the state--find another one! read more

Nice folks but the line are always long. I usually bring my returns here and UPS drop offs. Many times they print return labels there for me, which is convenient. However, I've seen them print the label and rather than take the extra few seconds to place on the package, they will place the label with the package and place them on the back counter to help the next customer. Problem is, I've had several packages not show movement after being dropped off and never received by the recipient because they never made it to UPS. Amazon can see it was dropped off, but I've had 4 packages not show any movement since handing it over and I can only guess the labels they printed were never attacked to the package. Now, unless I really need to drop off there, I just visit the UPS location in North Haven and never had an issue. Just beware.. I now ask them to affix the label to the package while I am there. The extra 4 seconds it takes to affix to the box won't cause any inconvenience. Besides, if I'm dropping off there for convenience, I'd rather not spend 10 minutes explaining to the company that I dropped it off (they give receipts) but no movement since drop off. I get things happen but as this has happened many times, it's worthy of mention. Please take the extra few seconds to affix the shipping labels. They often have one person working the counter which I can imagine causes the extra stress, but finish one transaction completely before trying to work too quickly and causing more trouble once we leave. read more

Just picked up my coffee pods from this location. I also recycle used coffee pods, and this is the reason that I have new coffee pods shipped to a UPS Store. When I pick up my new pods, I recycle my used pods. Nespresso, the coffee company, provides postage paid recycle envelopes. So I received notice that my new coffee pods were in. UPS postage is fully paid when ordering. The girl at the counter retrieved them for me from the back. And then told me that "it will be $5.00." ?????? I told her, "NO! Returning Amazon merchandise was always 100% free whenever I brought packages to any of the facilities the take returns. This time I had to buy a shipping envelope which puts up red flags to me, it was only a small non fragile item. I'm going to review this with Amazon, as well. The older guy who took my package needs some better bedside manner, because he wasn't the nicest sort. Everyone else I have had to deal with on all other occasions though have been very pleasant. Store absolutely nickel and dimes you for EVERYTHING. I just needed one little strip of tape, the store would not provide unless I paid $1 for them to tape it. Luckily a customer in line saw this ridiculousness and gave me a piece of tape. I'll continue to use this store just to return packages (I hope they don't get a commission for that service), but I will never go there and give them a dime of my business. You can print your own ups label on ups's website which is always cheaper than the rate you will get at this store. i frequently buy works of art under glass...and there is always the risk the glass with breaking during shipping, damaging the work. i just recently bought an etching at auction that this store picked up, packed and shipped. Always an issue when returning anything for amazon the rude girl that used to work there is not there anymore but never an easy transaction there you get get the feeling you are annoying anyone working there for doing their job. Latest was item being returned not in original packaging which it was and we need to purchase a box from them, Amazon said no box required. I have used this store MANY times and never once have I left unhappy. Everyone is helpful and polite and I have used for mailing, Amazon returns, notary, and photos. I went to drop off a large package at the Wallingford Store and was met by an angry hand-waving manager yelling at me. His name is Jim MacFarlane. He yelled non-stop about how there was an accident at the store and I would be causing an accident if my car spent 30 seconds to drop off the large package in front of the store. I asked him if he would help me...He Walked Off without answering me. This is disrespectful! In the time he spent yelling out his unhappiness with customers, just assuming I was another customer who was there to torment him, he could have helped unloaded the package and acted like a service manager he was hired for the job. It's UPS. You go when you need to use UPS. Since it's the only one in town, there's not really much choice. Tacky that they charge to tape your package closed. I can't speak to the other services they offer, like copying/printing etc. but they sure do make it easy to take back your Amazon returns. read more

I blame this on myself for being in a rush. I had to get the package out ASAP and my work doesn't give me the opportunity to get out until late in the evening. Well, I allowed myself to be conned into paying more than I should have had to to mail out a small flat package. The person behind the counter said " oh the package is not already in a brown bag, I will go get one. I asked if my package could be mailed out without their package. I was told the package would go onto conveyer belts. So I don't know why I agreed, at another UPS store I had mailed a similar package as is. My first visit to this store wasn't pleasant because of the girl that waited on me. She had no personality and zero customer service skills. My most recent visit wasn't much better. The package I was returning needed to be taped and they charge a dollar for 1 piece of tape. I explained that I didn't have a dollar on me but the girl didn't care and let me leave without taking the package, ridiculous! There we're 2 employees next to me taping multiple packages and the male looked as if he was willing to help but was afraid to offer. I understand policy and making money but to let a customer walk out over ten cents worth of tape is crazy. I hope the tape was worth losing a customer. read more

I've been using this UPS store for years, both in the old and new locations. I feel silly reviewing a UPS store, but I just have to say, it's the best business of its kind around. I've seen the same faces there forever, they know their stuff, they are always friendly and polite and work as quickly as possible to handle each customer's needs. As a note, they also accept "packing peanuts" for recycling; I collect the ones I get in deliveries and bring them back to the store rather than put them in the garbage. The owner (I think) or manager helped get folks things while they were in line, kept everyone entertained, and greeted people by name when they came in the door. I received my package at 11:30 am I didn't get notified that my package was here an hour later. By then someone can steal your package or something of that sort can happen.
