Unfortunately, this was the latter. I brought my older bike to Ridgewood Cycle Shop today for a basic tune-up, new tires, and a few minor upgrades. The bike works fine. I simply wanted to know what upgrades it needed or to be fully road-ready, what they recommended, and what the repair would cost. I was completely willing to pay for the work. After more than an hour and speaking with five different employees, including mechanics, I still couldn't get anyone to simply assess the bike or provide an estimate. Instead, I was repeatedly discouraged from repairing it and ultimately encouraged to just buy a new bike. That was incredibly frustrating. The customer service for repairs was awful. I felt humiliated, and confused knowing that I wasn't asking for anything unreasonable--I was simply trying to pay a bike shop to repair my bike. As a Ridgewood resident, I genuinely want to support local businesses, which makes this experience particularly disappointing. I even had my son with me and hoped this would be an opportunity for him to learn the value of repairing and maintaining something rather than immediately replacing it. If you're looking to purchase a new bike, perhaps this is the place. If you need a bike repaired, I'd strongly recommend looking elsewhere. Based on my experience, I won't be returning.
