First off, I never leave reviews. If it was possible I'd give ZERO out of 5 stars to The UPS Store owned by Peggy Sundquist in Raytown, MO. I've been to this store countless times and never had a problem with any of the workers including Peggy Sundquist.
I had an Amazon return with about eight items in a single box. I put the box on the scale as requested, which Peggy scanned the box with all my belongings and took it to the back. Prior, I did confirm with Peggy all the items that needed to be returned were indeed in this single box. I will admit, I knew it was possible that I might have multiple return codes for all the items in the box Peggy did scan (Wasn't 100% sure at that point).
I noticed when she scanned the return code, this particular code only showed about 4 items tied to it. Remind you, Peggy scanned the box and quickly took it to the back of the store. Shortly after, I let her know I discovered it's a chance that it could be a few other items in the box which might be tied to a different return code. She immediately said, "Once the box is on the scale, scanned into the system and moved to the back you are no longer able to take anything out of the box." I thought that was VERY ODD and ask if I could please "SEE" the box and determine what other items were not on the first return code she scanned (items needed to be shipped from Kohl's). She again said, "Once the box is on the scale, scanned into the system and moved to the back you are no longer able to take anything out of the box." Also mentioned how all the items will be shipped to Amazon and I need to call Amazon to figure the rest out.
Without yelling I asked repeatedly for me "TO SEE" "NOT TAKE" what's in the box. She did eventually bring the box up, but stood far enough away, which I couldn't determine what was what. So, I then told her she needs to at least take the items out for me "TO SEE" "NOT TAKE". Never happened.
This led to her calling the cops, stating "There is a 'belligerent' customer who will not leave the store."
I did not disrespect this woman in anyway, nor yell or do any criminal activity for this to take place. She literally reported/described me to the police as if I was committing or committed a crime. "African American man with a grey hoodie and a mask" is what she called me. As we know the climate dealing with African Americans and Law Enforcement, 2 officers did arrive. I simply told them my story, mentioned I didn't care about the box and just wanted to make it home. They let me go without any issues.
All this and Peggy could have simply showed me the items in the box or even cancel my return and to start over. Option was never offered. Remember I never wanted "TO TAKE" the items back, just wanted "TO SEE". For Peggy to report that I was 'belligerent' is absurd and to have Law Enforcement called upon is really disheartening.
By the way, first time in life I've ever been reported to the Police. I reported this to UPS Corporate who directed me to UPS Store Corporate resources. Pretty much said all they can do is file a complaint since she's the owner of the store. Nothing will happen and I'm okay with that. Just want to make people are aware of this encounter. Hopefully I won't mess up with any other Amazon return when using this location in the future. read more
