Come on. Give these workers a break. They are crammed into a tiny space behind a dirty door with broken glass UPS won't fix. They're shoulder deep in Amazon returns. They're trying to remind someone how to print while scanning a package and answering the phone to talk to an angry customer who can't track her shipment. UPS seems to have left this store filthy and understaffed, but the people who work here are doing their best, truly. I found them to be surprisingly patient and making valiant efforts to resist collapsing under mounds of cardboard. UPS - do something for these workers! Made a stop here several months ago because I had to mail out some earphones that crapped out on me to be sent some new ones. With already having the packing label, the mailing out of my defective earphones was quick and easy and the service person in the UPS Store was friendly. I was in and out of the store in less than 90 seconds if not less. Very easy going and highly recommend if you need their services. read more

Wow. I have lived in NYC for 18 years but the woman who is the manager is the rudest, most unprofessional person I have ever met, bar none. Virtually no lines and nice employees, BUT, what a ripoff! Do NOT print a label there. Without advanced warning, I was charged over THREE BUCKS to print a label there, when (had I known) I would have gone to Staples for like 10 cents. FedEx across the street does not do that. I believe this is store number 6514 at 163 Amsterdam ave. Use at your own risk. I left 3 packages to be packed and shipped - I did not stay and supervise packing, my bad. To say it was poorly done would be kind. One box improperly packed and contents damaged. It took 2 days 2 hours each day on the telephone to submit the claim. One of the other packages was a small item laying on the bottom of a large box, about three times the size needed filled with packing material on the top of the item, charge $81.26. UPS was kind, after 3 hang ups and 2 hours ++ on the telephone I was told take it up with the store. Use UPS at your risk they are about as helpful as a sore toe. read more

Terrible service, particularly for a small shop. The concept that the customer is right doesn't exist here. UPS mistakenly delivered a package here, instead of to my apartment, and so I had to come here to pick it up. The guy (heavily bearded; maybe the only one ever there?) would not release it to me unless I forked over $10 for "holding it for me." Or else, he would gladly have them take it back and put it back out for delivery. Right. For a service I neither wanted, nor signed up for. Which should be very clear, since there is no record of me having requested it be sent there in the first place. I'm standing there, looking at the package, in disbelief. (Thought for sure I was going to wind up on a reality show where they push people to the brink of idiocy to see how they react.) So after a few minutes of such nonsensical banter, a UPS delivery man walks in for pickups, and I ask if the bearded guy can simply hand him my package. So that, you know, the delivery man can hand it to me. "Nope, sorry, that's not the way it works. You have to call UPS." I'm looking at two guys with UPS shirts on, who want no responsibility for the problem - don't want to give this thing to me - and can't wait to pass it on to someone else. I have tried to look past the horrible service I get EVERY time I go to this particular UPS store, but today is the last time I will try. There are plenty of alternatives in the area, including TWO FedEx shops, and a USPS not too far away that would be happy to have my business. On with the review. The man who always seems to be working there when I go is extremely disinterested, unhelpful, and unpleasant. He is flat out rude. I can put up with that when there is no other option, but this is not the case in UWS Manhattan! Today I went in with a small item that I wanted to ship. I was prepared to purchase the bubble wrap, a box, and some tape. I walked in with my pulse already raised because I know to expect such rude service from this individual (I believe Robert is his name). I picked up some bubble wrap, set my item on a small area in the back of the store, and heard someone yell EXCUSE ME SIR! I turned around, and the man told me that this store only sells packing material, but you can't pack anything there. In other words, I was told that I would be allowed to purchase the bubble wrap and a box, but I could not slide my single item into the box, seal it up with tape I would have purchased, and ship it off. No problem! The FedEx a few blocks away is more than happy to sell me all of the materials, watch me pack it up, and sell me the service to ship it! Another review mentioned this same individual and his attitude toward elderly folks. i watched the same thing today. When I walked in, an older woman was leaving and trying to be pleasant to the man, and he was cold as ice in return. Don't reward this place with your business. I won't be. read more

I was expecting the worst based on the reviews, but my two recent experiences were extremely positive! I was helped by both a woman and a young man, in one instance dropping off two large items that already had postage and in the other case bringing in an Amazon return. Both employees were friendly and helpful and I didn't experience any issues. read more

It's not the first time, but the man that is there working regularly is pretty nasty. He is sarcastic to any question you may ask, with an attitude too. I will avoid doing business there from now on. I asked for a small piece of tape to finish packing the top side of the box and he charged me $2..seriously, that's not what bothered me at all, this maybe ups policy, but having that with an attitude? He Refused to help putting in the sticky sleeve the label with which I was having trouble because my sight is not good. And at last... Congrats for making a simple process so difficult. The computer takes 15 min to print one label, and they happily charge you as they watch you wait. The guy who works here is rude and I'm sure he takes the beating from annoyed customers but at least act sympathetic. Computer time $3.00. Placed an easy print order online, and they not only did not get it printed, but were unable to refund the money that I was charged for the job and referred me to online customer service instead. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE OF ALL TIME!!!!!!! The woman at the front desk is rude (and incompetent) and they are all lazy. By lazy, I mean when it's 8:15 and you're standing outside to pick up a package you can SEE from the window - they won't let you in to get it. Instead they come to the door with a nasty attitude and say "READ THE SIGN, I'm not open until 8:30." If you were a good business woman and cared about customer service AT ALL - you would accommodate your customers in this kind of a scenario. It's difficult for anyone to utilize this location as they are only open during everyone's work hours. The least they could do is accommodate people when they are IN THE STORE. If you can utilize other locations - do it. This one is terrible and I can guarantee you'll have a bad experience. read more

While I got my shipping needs met I found the guy there was rude. Not your blatant super rude guy but kind of irritated by the mere fact that people ask questions like, "what are the different options for shipping this." What made this extra excruciating is the 2-3 other people who came in were about 65-85. Never open on time. On Saturdays they are supposed to be open at 10am but don't open til after 10:30 (today I waited 40 minutes outside).

Service was just meh. No one was rude but they have no ups packaging, meaning they charge for all their flimsy envelopes and they charge to tape a box. I have been to at least 10 different ups stores in different states and have never been charged for this type of service. And going Ground. Also, UPS has stiffed me on a home pick up in NYC, one in Colorado, and have left packages out in the snow instead of placing on the covered porch. I have used this store many times over the past 7 years, but recently had a very bad experience and want to warn others. They packed and shipped a valuable package for me, which I paid to insure. They lost the package and its contents, apparently due to damage by UPS handlers. I filed a claim for the insurance six months ago which has still not been paid. They first refused it because they said the package was "improperly packed", until I showed them the receipt proving that they had packed it. After many hours wasted supplying them with receipts, information, and a replacement estimate from the manufacturer, they still refuse to pay. The owner of the business won't even return my phone call, has never met with me, and the employees refuse to give out his/her name. I paid over $100 for insurance, they packed and then lost my package. There is no question or gray area here. They are completely at fault. My guess is that they just figure if they deny the claim long enough I will go away. Now I am having to file a small claims suit and waste countless more hours of my time. I would not use them to ship anything you aren't prepared to lose, and I certainly wouldn't bother to pay for insurance. Go to FedEx or somewhere more reputable if you have anything important to ship! read more

I have been going to this UPS Store since I first moved to NYC from another state in 2012, and I had to do a lot of mailing back home for work then, and so I was going weekly to the UPS Store. I live very close by, so I now go in at least two to three times a month. The ladies and gentlemen working there are awesome. I accidently left my favorite thermos there the other day, and they still have it waiting for me when I can pick it up today! I thought I would never see my thermos again. There are several other UPS and FedEx stores in the area, so you would think the competition would inspire some level of customer service. Apparently not, don't waste your time or money here, go to one of the many other stores in the neighborhood instead. I had a mailbox here and they never notified when I had packages. I would just have to periodically drop by and ask. They repeatedly said they were working on the notification system, but 6 months passed with no improvement. When I switched to the pay-as-you-go option, instead of the subscription, my packages were refused as they do not keep any records of pay-as-you-go customers. Plus the staff is rude . read more

I never write Yelp reviews but I was so incensed by my experience with this store I had to post. My nanny was flat out discriminated against in this store the other day. She asked the man working there for assistance filling out the form because she'd forgotten her glasses. He was rude and refused. She asked to use an account number. He was obnoxious to her about the fact that she would not be able to do so. Yet when a woman a different race walked in a minute later, he was sweet as sugar to her. She is a strong woman but she left very, very upset and teary about the incident. I called the store to speak with the Manager about the incident because I was concerned about how she was treated. It turns out it was the Manager who had done this to her! I realized this quickly because he immediately know the incident I was referring to. And when I asked about using the account he got snotty and obnoxious with me! I explained that it is fine to have a policy disallowing the use of accounts but that he could have just told me about it and didn't have to be rude. I pointed out that you get more bees with honey than you do with vinegar and that if you want a customer to be a repeat customer that it would better to have a pleasant conversation. He said he didn't care. I told him I'd be calling the corporate office as I'm sure they'd be interested to hear about him. He again said he didn't care. Jerome- owner of this UPS Franchise- if you are reading this- this guy has to go. He is bringing down your store and ruining your business. If you read the other reviews on Yelp you'll see that all of the complaints are about him as well. No one is going to come to your store if you allow this rude treatment of customers to continue. read more
